Hugh Jackman‘s Real Steel, once again, knocks out the competition with a weekend take of $16.3 million, just ahead of the Julianne Hough-Kenny Wormald Footloose remake, which earned $16.1 million.

Coming in a distant third was the horror film, The Thing, which made $8.7 million in ticket sales.

The George Clooney-Ryan Gosling political drama The Ides of March and Dolphin Tale came in fourth and fifth places with $7.5 million and $6.3 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Moneyball ($5.5 million), 50/50 ($4.3 million), Courageous ($3.4 million), The Big Year ($3.3 million) – whose stars (Steve Martin, Jack Black, Owen Wilson) couldn’t save it from flopping, and The Lion King ($2.7 million).

Alec Baldwin began Season 37 of “Saturday Night Live” by noting in his monologue that he has now set an “SNL” record by hosting the show 16 times, beating his It’s Complicated costar Steve Martin‘s record of 15 times.

Enter Martin, who wanted to make sure Baldwin wasn’t beating him using steroids or any performance-enhancing drugs.

And in order to test Baldwin, Martin said he brought an expert on drug use.

Enter Seth Rogen.

Martin makes Baldwin go behind a medical screen and give a urine test.

The results are, well, interesting.

Steve Martin was swindled in a major German art forgery scandal, a source close to the comedian confirms to Gossip Cop.

The actor-author-musician, who set his recent novel “An Object of Beauty” in the art world, purchased what he thought was a 1915 painting by Heinrich Campendonk called “Landscape With Horses” for approximately $850,000 in 2004.

When he attempted to resell the work 15 months later, Martin’s painting took a big loss, fetching only about $600,000.

It’s now believed that Martin’s faux “Campendonk” actually came from fabricated art collections created by a network of German swindlers apprehended in 2010, according to Spiegel.

The suspects are being investigated for selling dozens of expertly forged paintings to galleries, including the one where Martin purchased “Landscape With Horses.”

Investigators say the scammers claimed the paintings belonged to a collection hidden during the Nazi era.

Tina Fey will be honored tonight as the youngest ever recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

The first female head writer on “Saturday Night Live” and the force behind celebrated sitcom “30 Rock,” Fey will be feted by notables including Steve Martin, Steve Carell, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Hudson.

Fey is the third woman to get the Twain honor, after Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg.

Other past honorees include Richard Pryor, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, and Fey’s “SNL” boss Lorne Michaels.

Alec Baldwin will once again host “Saturday Night Live.”

Gossip Cop has confirmed with a source close to the production that Baldwin will host this year’s season finale on May 15.

And 15 is also the number of times Baldwin will have hosted the sketch comedy show, tying him with his Oscars co-host Steve Martin for the record.

Up first, though, is next week’s host, Betty White.

With preliminary numbers in – and things will change a bit – it appears yesterday’s Oscars garnered about 14 percent more viewers than last year’s show.

It’s estimated that the total U.S. audience was approximately 41.3 million people, up from 36.3 million in 2009.

Christmas happens to be a HUGE movie weekend for Hollywood, with several big-time stars competing at the box office.

Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin get romantic in “It’s Complicated.” Sam Worthington goes native in “Avatar.” George Clooney and “Twilight” fave Anna Kendrick take to the skies in “Up in the Air.” Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law get brainy and brawny in “Sherlock Holmes.” Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz make music in “Nine.”

(Oh, and a certain vampire movie is still making the rounds.)

If you like Kristin Wiig‘s character Gilly – the impish, always smiling, troublemaking schoolgirl – then NBC has a special Christmas gift for you.

On December 17, the network will air a two-hour “SNL Presents: A Very Gilly Christmas,” featuring new sketches with the mischievous Gilly as well as classic holiday sketches.

The special should be interesting since the Gilly character barely speaks, opting instead to smile her way through her deviousness. Wiig said that Gilly’s “five-word vocabulary will stretch to 10 or 11 [words]” for the holiday show.

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin – this year’s Academy Award co-hosts – are also slated to make guest appearances on the special, and introduce holiday-themed skits they’ve performed in.

Wiig added, “Since `SNL’ has been on for so long, it’s 35 years… there’s a lot of good material there.”

Really, how did any of us find out anything before Perez Hilton picked up a keyboard?

This morning “Scoop” Hilton breathlessly reports that Daniel Radcliffe might go nude in the next “Harry Potter” film. “Things are getting a little risque over at Hogwarts!” chimes Hilton, referring to the “nudey rumor.”

Sigh.

The least Perez could have done was make one phone call… but he didn’t. Gossip Cop did more, including speaking to Radcliffe’s rep, who assured us Harry Potter will be keeping his clothes on.

But Perez was probably very, very busy lining up dozens of stories that seem to run on a timer. After all, that’s how we get gems like his announcement this morning that Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will cohost next year’s Academy Awards… a day after everyone else, including Gossip Cop, reported it yesterday.

Perhaps this is why Perez Hilton, so often wrong and late, has still blocked Gossip Cop on Twitter.

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, veterans of live comedy thanks to their innumerable appearances on “Saturday Night Live,” have now nabbed the biggest hosting gig ever – the Oscars.

Come March 7, 2010 the two funnymen will kick off the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Martin has hosted the Oscars twice before. This is a first for the “30 Rock” star.
