There are more indications that The Twilight Saga could continue after Breaking Dawn Part 2, the fifth and (assumed to be) final film in the hit vampire series.

On Friday, Lionsgate executive Rob Friedman said that the studio would develop an additional movie should Twilight author Stephenie Meyer decide to write a fifth book.

“If she wishes to do it, we’ll be there to support her,” THR quotes Friedman as saying during a call with analysts.

As Gossip Cop reported last month, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer also hinted at the studio’s desire for a sixth film following the purchase of Summit Entertainment, the franchise’s home.

The trailer for Breaking Dawn Part 2 will debut with The Hunger Games’ theatrical release in March.

Last month, Breaking Dawn Part 1 passed the $700 million mark globally.

Diane Kruger is in serious talks to join The Host, Gossip Cop can confirm.

The movie, an adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer novel, will star Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and Jake Abel.

Kruger would play The Seeker, who oversees the parasitic infiltration of Ronan’s Melanie Stryder character by an alien entity.

Production is expected to begin shortly on what could be the opening film of a trilogy.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 has passed the $500 million mark.

The film grossed $508 million in global ticket sales in only 12 days since the film’s release on November 18, 2011.

Summit Entertainment’s Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger stated: “We couldn’t be more pleased with the success of this film and a franchise that the fans have continued to support over the past several years. Thank you to all involved with the films from the actors, filmmakers and Stephenie Meyer to the most important group of all, the global fan base that continues to drive a desire for more Edward, Jacob and Bella.”

In a release sent to Gossip Cop, the studio says Breaking Dawn “also reached an additional milestone domestically, having generated $223 million and putting it in the top 12 films to reach $220 million in 10 days.”

Max Irons is set to play Jared in The Host, the upcoming movie adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer‘s novel.

Saoirse Ronan has already been cast as Melanie Stryder, the woman who shares her body with an alien force.

Jake Abel will play Ian, rounding out the sci-fi love triangle.

Irons’ participation has not been confirmed, but an insider in the actor’s camp tells Gossip Cop it’s all but a done deal.

The son of Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, he last starred in last spring’s Red Riding Hood.

Filming on The Host is slated to begin in February.

The movie is slated to hit theaters in March 2013.

The Twilight trio – Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner – made their mark on Hollywood history today, leaving handprints at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

Jimmy Kimmel was on hand for the honors, as was author Stephenie Meyer, but the crowd really got going once Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner appeared.

Having thanked the franchise’s fans for making the honor possible, they plunged into cement – and Hollywood lore.

Saoirse Ronan is set to play Melanie Stryder in the adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer‘s The Host.

Ronan will play Melanie Stryder, one of the surviving humans in a struggle against alien parasites called Souls.

Ronan has starred in Hanna, The Lovely Bones and Atonement, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

The team behind Breaking Dawn has asked fans not to distribute leaked images of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart from the film shoot.

Unauthorized images of the stars were recently put online, leading studio Summit Entertainment to reach out to the Twilight fan base.

This afternoon, director Bill Condon and author Stephenie Meyer released a statement with producer Wyck Godfrey.

“As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn as a work in progress have leaked on the internet.”

“We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage. The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012.”

“Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don’t view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you.”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart just can’t escape outlets’ confusion over where their real lives end and their characters’ lives begin.

Helped by parrots like Showbiz Spy, the National Enquirer is responsible for a growing rumor that Pattinson is creating a wedding ring for Stewart.

And not only is Pattinson allegedly “busy sketching designs,” he also plans to propose after Edward Cullen and Bella Swan‘s own marriage is filmed for Breaking Dawn.

Really.

That’s what these outlets are reporting.

Pattinson “feels their on-screen nuptials will be a very special and personal moment, even though it’s supposedly make believe,” claims an “underground source.”

The actor is working with Stephenie Meyer to “pull off a real-life surprise” by dropping to one knee as soon as cameras stop rolling on the scene to “slip his designer ring on his real-life love as he proposes marriage!”

Uh huh. So Pattinson feels like popping the question is a “personal” moment, which is why he plans to do it… in front of cast and crew on a major motion picture?

Of course, logic is only one of the tests this ridiculous story fails.

Gossip Cop felt silly even asking, but was told by sources in no uncertain terms that production will not be interrupted by any real-life proposal.

Kimbra Hickey is the very first thing new Twilight fans see when they start reading Stephenie Meyer‘s book series.

Well, at least parts of Kimbra Hickey.

Her hands are the ones holding a red apple on the mega-bestseller’s famous cover.

“It was major exposure for my hands. But nobody knew who I was,” she tells the New York Post.

“I see people reading it on the subway, and I say, ‘Those are my hands! I’m a hand model!’”

“I’m sure they think I’m crazy — a crazy lady on the subway.”

Now the New Yorker occasionally offers autographs near her local bookstore’s cash register when someone picks up a copy of the book. She also attends fan conventions, where she markets hand lotion — apple-scented, of course.

She’s expressed interest in being cast in the Breaking Dawn movie, “even if they only wanted my hands in it.”

Hickey got $300 for the 2004 photo shoot that became Twilight‘s cover and says she’s aware of at least four fans who have tattoos of her famous mitts.

As it happens, Hickey’s hands aren’t just for “looking.”

She’s also a massage therapist.

It may be Bella Swan‘s birthday, but her fans are getting the gifts.

It’s been confirmed that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be released in DVD and Blu-Ray formats on December 4, 2010.

The 2-disc Special Edition versions will contain audio commentaries with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and with Stephenie Meyer and Wyck Godfrey.

Also featured in the edition are eight deleted and extended scenes, a six-part “making of” documentary, and music videos from the soundtrack.

December 4 will also be when two companion DVDs become available:

- Destination Forks: The Real World of Twilight

- Music Videos and Performances From the Twilight Saga Soundtracks, Volume 1.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: an Eclipse Novella has sold more than 1 million U.S. copies since its release on June 5, making it the year’s best-selling book in under a month.

The novella is written from the viewpoint of Bree Tanner, a newborn vampire Stephenie Meyer introduced in Eclipse, the third installment of her mega-selling The Twilight Saga.

Nearly 100 million copies of The Twilight Saga have been sold worldwide, according to publisher Little, Brown.

The final installment in The Twilight Saga begins production this fall.

As announced late yesterday, Breaking Dawn will be turned into two separate films, with the first set to hit screens on November 18, 2011. Dividing Stephenie Meyer‘s final tome in half had long been the expected route; it’s now official.

There is also word that the movies could be done in 3-D. The technology has inspired both awe (in films like Avatar) and groans (Clash of the Titans).

Summit Entertainment confirmed today that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN will be released as two separate films with the first of the two slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011.

Bill Condon will direct both movies.

Among major cast returning: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner along with Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, Ashley Greene as Alice and Kellan Lutz as Emmett.

Production begins in the fall.

The project, based on the fourth novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, is currently being written by Melissa Rosenberg.

Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer are producing.

As the Eclipse release nears, rumors concerning appearances by cast members are on the rise.

Late yesterday, Western outlets began picking up a Russian radio station’s report that Robert Pattinson, director David Slade and author Stephenie Meyer were due to launch the film in Moscow on June 30.

The rumor speculates about where the “delegation from Hollywood” will stay, mentions that a “select audience” has been invited to the premiere, and claims Pattinson “wants to walk through Red Square to visit the Kremlin.”

But Muscovites should NOT be duped.

A rep for Summit Entertainment tells Gossip Cop the supposed rendezvous in Russia is NOT TRUE.

Mark your calendars! “Breaking Dawn,” the final installment of the “Twilight Saga,” hits theaters on November 18, 2011.

It has yet to be decided whether the last book in the Stephenie Meyer series will be divided into two films or not, though some time ago a source close to the production told Gossip Cop that it was “likely” to be two movies.

And while “Breaking Dawn,” starring Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, has a release date, the film – being directed by Bill Condon – still does not have a start date.

Academy Award winner Bill Condon will direct The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Summit Entertainment announced today.

In a press release, Condon said, “I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book – and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience.”

Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight series, said she is “thrilled” Condon is directing and is “excited to see what he does with the material.”

Condon, who won an Oscar in 1999 for Gods and Monsters, was the front-runner for the project, despite a false claim that Gus Van Sant had already “signed” to do the movie and speculation that Michael Mann was a major candidate.

Since the dawn of time, humans have looked toward the heavens and pondered who would direct Breaking Dawn, the fourth installment of The Twilight Saga.

A new name entered the discussion yesterday, when Michael Mann reportedly expressed interest in the project.

“Having read the source material, there’s a place for digital cinema in these films that has not yet been utilized,” Mann is said to have commented. “I’ve been talking with David [Slade, director of June's Eclipse]… and he feels very close to the story.”

“We’re still in talks with Stephanie (sic) [Meyer], but finishing the Twilight saga right is certainly a goal of mine and David’s.”

Not surprisingly, the direct language Mann supposedly uses (and we’re trying to verify whether he gave these quotes) made many fans believe he’d already accepted the assignment.

However, Gossip Cop can confirm there is still no director for the film, Mann or otherwise.

Gossip Cop spoke with a rep for Summit Entertainment, and we were told that nothing has changed since earlier directorial speculation. There is no finalized script, no production schedule, and no one chosen (yet) to sit behind the camera.

Other outlets will claim to have the inside scoop.

Earlier today a press release went out claiming, among other things, that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn “will be split into two movies, and filmed in 3D.”

But that “press release is inauthentic,” a rep for Summit Entertainment confirms exclusively to Gossip Cop.

The rep, who further called the release “fabricated,” added that no official decision has been made about the division of Breaking Dawn, but that Summit is working with author Stephenie Meyer to bring her vision to the big screen with all the “creative elements” necessary.

Meanwhile, a well-placed source tells Gossip Cop that, while splitting Breaking Dawn is likely, filming it in 3D is a longshot.

Reports everywhere this evening claim “Breaking Dawn” is going to be adapted into two movies.

The official word given to Gossip Cop from a rep for Summit is, “No decision has been made and as we have said all along we are continuing to work with Stephenie Meyer to bring Breaking Dawn to the big screen.”

HOWEVER, a well-placed source tells Gossip Cop dividing Breaking Dawn into two pictures “is the direction that it’s going in.” We’re told that from a practical standpoint, separating the story into two parts and shooting back-to-back is what makes most sense.

Earlier reports seem to be fairly accurate when it comes to timing, specifically, that filming may begin in October.

Gossip Cop will keep you posted when plans are officially finalized.

Our usual reliable pals over at E! Online caused a bit of a stir yesterday with an “Awful Truth” post detailing the “fun drama” between “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer and the vampire series’ film studio, Summit Entertainment, over the adaptation of her final book, “Breaking Dawn.”

Returning to the debate over whether to make the series capper one film or two, E! cites an “insider” as claiming Meyer and Summit “have very different agendas.” According to the piece, Meyer is reluctant to greenlight the two-film option, and the studio is “doing its best to ‘politely inspire’” her. “It’s all about trying to convince Meyer to do it,” the post continues, later asking, “Jeez, is it actually harder for a devout Mormon [like Meyer] to whore out her creative baby than, say, a reported Protestant like J.K. Rowling, who certainly had no difficulties milking the Harry Potter flicks for all they were worth?”

Gossip Cop truly likes the team over at E!… but they’ve got this one wrong. There’s no such rift between Meyer and Summit over Breaking Dawn‘s fate.

So misplaced were the claims, in fact, Meyer herself responded on her official site.

“There is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two,” Meyer writes. And while the author states again her belief that it would be difficult to tell all of Breaking Dawn in a single film, “If a great way of doing that surfaces, I’m all for it.”

“I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip gets fabricated to stir things up,” Meyer makes sure to add. “But there’s no basis to this particular story.”

And a Summit source further confirms to Gossip Cop there aren’t any competing agendas.

No worries, “Twilight” fans. There’s no sign of a “Breaking Dawn” breakdown.

Gossip Cop would like to wish Stephenie Meyer, author of the “Twilight Saga,” a very happy birthday! Meyer is blowing out 36 candles today. And while Gossip Cop has blown out far more than 36 Twilight-related rumors, we thought we’d pick a few stories to share on Meyer’s big day, because, hey, it can’t be easy having a December 24 birthday!

Some are terrible, some are true, but all helped to make 2009 a huge – huge! – year for both Meyer and her blockbuster series.

** There was that Star story about director David Slade putting Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and other “Eclipse” cast members “on lockdown, demanding they return to their hotel rooms when shooting wraps!”

And why were the “Twilight” stars supposedly not allowed out past . . . twilight? Because they “were so busy partying, smoking and hooking up that they came to work looking like hell,” claimed a Star “insider.” Summit told Gossip Cop that the concept of a lockdown was “completely false.”

** How about those persistent stories that “Breaking Dawn” was going to begin production shortly? We said it wasn’t true, and people called us names. To date, there has been no official announcement about “Breaking Dawn.” (Don’t worry — it will happen.)

But why should Meyers only hear the negative? Today’s her birthday, and Gossip Cop was happy to announce a few presents that she received about five weeks early.

** The first was that “New Moon” broke the record for biggest midnight opening, beating “The Dark Knight” and the top “Harry Potter” franchise performer.

** Shortly after that we were also able to deliver the news that “New Moon” set the record for the biggest (non-summer) weekend box office.

All in all, not a bad year!

When the tabs don’t have actual news to report, contrived controversy will do in a pinch — especially when it comes to “Twilight.” Life & Style declares in just such a piece, “Battle for Breaking Dawn,” that “cast and producers are at odds over the making of the fourth movie in the smash series.”

What has the magazine learned? Well, not much. It mostly recycles nuggets about Stephenie Meyer‘s fourth installment’s “serious departure” in tone from the first three books; the ongoing discussion about whether it should be split into more than one movie; stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner‘s rapidly filling schedules; etc.

Catching Gossip Cop‘s eye, though, was the section labeled, “Director demands.” While Summit Entertainment is “still searching for a director to helm Breaking Dawn,” the leads “are adamant about wanting New Moon‘s Chris Weitz.” So adamant, in fact, that according to the mag’s so-called “insider,” “Rob, Taylor and Kristen sat down and wrote a letter to have Chris come back.”

Gossip Cop thought the story of the “Twilight” Trio writing a joint endorsement of Weitz sounded a bit off, especially coming in the midst of a piece that just seemed to repeat every “Breaking Dawn” angle, however played out and speculative, to fill the space.

We were right to be skeptical. A source close to the production said that the three major stars of “New Moon,” while very pleased with Weitz, never wrote a letter demanding he take over “Breaking Dawn.”

Anyone who wants to write Life & Style a letter “applauding” (ahem) their “Twilight” coverage is encouraged to do so.

Today brings another reprehensible death hoax courtesy of Internet pranksters. This time, the wildly unfunny “joke” claims that Stephenie Meyer, author of “The Twilight Saga” series, was found dead at her home this morning. The rumor has gained traction on Facebook, Twitter, and in Meyer’s fan community.

Fortunately, Meyer is very much alive. Her official website has put out a statement confirming she’s “alive and well.”

Gossip Cop again fails to see the humanity in spreading death hoaxes, in this case involving a wife and mother. We hope no one close to Meyer caught wind of this garbage before it was debunked.

There are renewed rumors today that a film adaptation of “Breaking Dawn” is set to begin production soon in Vancouver.

While fans have clamored for months for confirmation of a fourth “Twilight Saga” movie from Summit Entertainment, a new wave of speculation followed a press conference for “New Moon” on Friday, when star Robert Pattinson seemed to break some news when he reportedly said, “I think the tentative time for Breaking Dawn is fall of next year.”

We’ve seen the ebb and flow of rumors about the location, timetable, and official status of a “Breaking Dawn” film for months, so Gossip Cop contacted our highly placed Summit source.

Has a production office been set up?

“Nope.”

Has there been any movement?

“Nothing yet.”

We also talked with a staffer at the British Columbia Film Commission who said they hadn’t heard anything new about “Breaking Dawn.”

So that’s what we know. We are NOT suggesting that “Breaking Dawn” is any more or any less likely than it was a few days ago. But as of now, rumors of production starting up remain only rumors.

We’re not really sure who OK! magazine thinks they’re fooling with this week’s absurd “‘Twilight’ exclusive” about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart‘s “love nest.” But they’re not fooling real fans, and they’re not fooling Gossip Cop.

Let’s look at the cover.

“Inside Our Home” is the main cover line beneath a photo of the pair. It even allegedly quotes them: “We’re already like a married couple.” But that’s not all. Under the headline, it boasts, “Exclusive photos of our apartment … How we spend our private time … intimate details about our life at home …”

The implication is plain: that OK! interviewed Pattinson and Stewart. Pure and simple. The mag gives the impression they spoke with the two stars.

Now look at the article itself, which reads as a romance even Stephenie Meyer couldn’t conjure. There’s talk of Rob and Kristen cuddling, reading poetry, singing by the fireplace, luxuriating in Jacuzzis, and even microwaving Hot Pockets.

Gossip Cop wants to know how OK! knows these intimate details. They didn’t speak with Pattinson or Stewart, though they tried to give that impression.

And we called them on it. Literally.

We left messages with the author of the story and a rep for the magazine. Neither has given us a comment.

We’re still waiting. But we’re not holding our breath.

As promotion for “New Moon” heats up and shooting on “Eclipse” continues, the big “Twilight” rumors of the past week concern whether or not the fourth book in Stephenie Meyer‘s series, “Breaking Dawn,” has been officially given the green light for film production.

Today comes new chatter about Summit Entertainment planning to release “Breaking Dawn” in two parts, with production moving back to Portland from Vancouver. The rumors come complete with speculation about the censoring of certain explicit scenes, and a date on which shooting is supposedly due to begin.

Gossip Cop spoke again to very highly placed sources, who told us that “Breaking Dawn” is NOT YET GREEN-LIT.

Given the massive success of the first movie and anticipation for the second and third installments, it seems likely that confirmation on “Breaking Dawn” is forthcoming. But none of the buzz swirling right now is based on actual, finalized production plans.

If Gossip Cop looks exhausted it’s because we spent the afternoon feeling sick after reading OK! magazine’s cover story.

Three is definitely not the charm for the weekly, which for the third consecutive week delivers an absurd, manipulative “Twilight” cover. Today’s bait-and-switch features a photo of a smiling Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart, with the headline, “Wedding of the Year,” along with the bullet points: “The vintage satin dress and sentimental ring,” Moonlit garden reception at the family home,” “Thousands of roses,” “Best man and bridesmaid,” Spectacular wedding cake,” “Exotic honeymoon.”

(Ooh, we’re getting queasy again.)

Of course, when you turn to the article, it explains that is has “the scoop on the big-screen ceremony, plus what to expect when Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson really tie the knot.”

Then the mag writes, “what’s remarkable about the sizzling relationship between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart – aka Twilight’s Edward Cullen and Bella Swan – is that each stage of the twosome’s love story mirrors Stephenie Meyer’s cult vampire saga.” Yes, according to OK!, the  “art-life parallels are downright eerie.”

No, what’s eerie is how often OK! tries to peddle outright nonsense as news.

Nevertheless, the rag says the first book, “Twilight,” is about “unrequited love,” and reports that Pattinson had the hots for Stewart while she was dating Michael Angarano. In “New Moon,“ the couple drifts apart when she’s out of town. OK! claims that happened in real life, too, this summer, when Pattinson and Stewart were on opposite coasts working on different films. In “Eclipse,” Bella and Edward get engaged, and in “Breaking Dawn” they get married and have a child.

Here are a few problems already: The magazine already said they are “engaged,” which they are not! Also, the magazine goes on and on describing what the “Twilight Saga” wedding looks like. But the wedding takes place in “Breaking Dawn,” not “Eclipse,” the installment they are currently shooting. So how is it possible that they have the “scoop on the big-screen ceremony?”

And after OK! describes the film’s traditional and ornate wedding, it says, “As for Rob and Kris, this time they might depart from the script.” How can they? What about all the “art-life parallels [that] are downright eerie?” And how their “love story mirrors” the novels? It’s all hot air, including how Nikki Reed and Dakota Fanning will be Stewart’s bridesmaids for her non-traditional wedding.

OK! Once again, so not OK.

It’s been a week now since new “Twilight” star BooBoo Stewart sent fans into a frenzy when he told Access Hollywood that he “heard there’s going to be three more movies” – meaning two more movies after “Eclipse” – bringing the franchise’s total to five. Author Stephenie Meyer’s book series, however, has only four installments.

A rep for Summit Entertainment, which is producing “The Twilight Saga,” responded then by saying, “We appreciate our young actor’s enthusiasm for the franchise and his role, but his comments about the number of films were unfortunately uninformed and not accurate.”

OK, so then there are only four films slated, right?

Well, yesterday a video popped on YouTube, featuring Meyer herself telling an interviewer, “I really think they have to do five movies, cause I don’t think you can do ‘Breaking Dawn’ in one movie. You have to split it up.”

So, is it four – implied by producers and in keeping with the number of books, or five – as stated by BooBoo Stewart and hoped for by the author?

Today a rep for Summit Entertainment told Gossip Cop that the final tally is still “to be decided.”
