Oblivion Easily Cruises Past 42 and The Croods To Win Weekend



The Tom Cruise sci-fi thriller Oblivion won the weekend box office.

Set in a mostly empty post-apocalyptic Earth, the movie earned $38.2 million and first place.

Jackie Robinson biopic 42 finished in second place with $18 million, well ahead of the animated family film The Croods, which secured third with $9.5 million.

42, the biopic about Jackie Robinson, hit a home run at the box office, debuting in the top spot with $27.3 million in tickets sales.

Scary Movie 5, also in its first week out, came in a distant second place with $15.2 million.

Nabbing third was The Croods with $13.2 million.

Scary Movie 5 is opening this weekend, and the stars were out in full force in Hollywood on Thursday for the premiere.

Lindsay Lohan (soon to be in rehab), Charlie Sheen, Ashley Tisdale, Mike Tyson, Kate Walsh, Heather Locklear, and others walked the red carpet.
