“Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart ‘on a break,’” reads the headline of a shocking story from The Mirror, which goes on to report, “They play vampire lovers on screen – but it looks like the sun may have set on their real-life affair.”

The tab then writes, “The odd couple – Robert Pattinson and girlfriend Kristen Stewart – are believed to have split.”

“Believed” to have split?

What happened to real facts?

Anyway, the Mirror claims, “K-Stew had been expected to attend the Country Music Awards in Las Vegas with her lover. They both had time off but, as with January’s Golden Globe Awards, R-Patz turned up on his own.”

Not true.

First of all, it was NOT the Country Music Awards. It was the Academy of Country Music Awards. But more importantly, Stewart was NEVER slated to be at the ACMs in Las Vegas, according to a source close to the actress.

Pattinson was simply at the awards show to present with Reese Witherspoon, with whom he’s currently promoting their film, Water for Elephants.

And those quotes from a so-called “source” about how the two “began to drift apart” and “Rob figured they should officially cool things off” are completely off-base.

The two have NOT split.

Maybe the Mirror should leave the fictional drama for the Twilight films – and not the people who star in them.

Here comes another Famous magazine gem.

The tab from Down Under tries to “put one over” on everyone with a priceless piece on Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Twilight‘s leading couple “beamed from ear to ear” during their happy trip to last week’s People’s Choice Awards (tell that to HollywoodLife), and the magazine thinks it knows why – Pattinson and Stewart are supposedly engaged.

What, you missed the news?

According to Famous, the events behind Robsten’s “big secret” engagement began after Stewart “spent Christmas Eve kicking up her heels on a boozy night out” with Garrett Hedlund – an evening that never actually happened, as Gossip Cop has reported.

To appease a purportedly “disappointed” Pattinson, Stewart made an “emergency dash” to the UK “to smooth things over.”

That’s when Pattinson allegedly “gave her an ultimatum,” says a Famous “source,” basically demanding that Stewart marry him to show that she’s serious about their relationship.

The magazine claims Stewart accepted.

So that’s how Famous digs itself into a giant hole, reporting that Pattinson and Stewart are engaged when sources assure Gossip Cop they are not.

Here’s how Famous tries to climb out of the hole:

“But don’t expect a big announcement any time soon!” declares the tab. Pattinson and Stewart are planning “to keep things under wraps for a while,” explains a so-called “insider.”

Yes, how convenient.

“The whole engagement was a very spur-of-the moment thing,” adds Famous. “Rob didn’t even have time to buy Kristen a ring.”

Uh-huh.

To recap: Pattinson allegedly gave Stewart a marriage ultimatum after an event that never happened over Christmas, she accepted, and the reason they looked so happy during the People’s Choice Awards was because of this “secret” engagement that no one is allowed to discuss and which happened so quickly there’s not even a ring.

It must be easy to write about Famous people when reality isn’t an issue.

HollywoodLife is spending the last day of 2010 just as it spent many of the previous 364 days – adding to Gossip Cop‘s workload.

You’ll recall that earlier this week, the site claimed On The Road co-stars Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund were together at Soho House in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve.

The so-called “date” was 100% phony.

As Gossip Cop reported, Hedlund was NOT EVEN THERE.

Well, today HollywoodLife proves again that it’s either too oblivious or too careless to let inaccuracy get in the way of a juicy story.

According to the site, Robert Pattinson “went ballistic” after hearing that Stewart and Hedlund were together on Christmas Eve.

Stewart “knows that Rob is jealous of Garrett and to go out with him while he’s miles and miles away did not sit well with him,” HollywoodLife’s so-called “insider” alleges.

The Twilight co-stars “had a huge fight over it,” continues the site’s source. Stewart was supposedly “apologetic to Rob, but that didn’t satisfy his jealousy.”

Uh-huh.

Sigh.

Let’s go through this again.

Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund did NOT spend Christmas Eve together.

Robert Pattinson did not “freak out” about their “date,” as HollywoodLife claims, because there was NO date.

And a Pattinson confidante tells Gossip Cop the entire story is totally ludicrous.

On New Year’s Eve, HollywoodLife doesn’t wait until midnight to drop the ball.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart just can’t escape outlets’ confusion over where their real lives end and their characters’ lives begin.

Helped by parrots like Showbiz Spy, the National Enquirer is responsible for a growing rumor that Pattinson is creating a wedding ring for Stewart.

And not only is Pattinson allegedly “busy sketching designs,” he also plans to propose after Edward Cullen and Bella Swan‘s own marriage is filmed for Breaking Dawn.

Really.

That’s what these outlets are reporting.

Pattinson “feels their on-screen nuptials will be a very special and personal moment, even though it’s supposedly make believe,” claims an “underground source.”

The actor is working with Stephenie Meyer to “pull off a real-life surprise” by dropping to one knee as soon as cameras stop rolling on the scene to “slip his designer ring on his real-life love as he proposes marriage!”

Uh huh. So Pattinson feels like popping the question is a “personal” moment, which is why he plans to do it… in front of cast and crew on a major motion picture?

Of course, logic is only one of the tests this ridiculous story fails.

Gossip Cop felt silly even asking, but was told by sources in no uncertain terms that production will not be interrupted by any real-life proposal.

There’s been a lot of talk over the last few weeks about where Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will live while they shoot Breaking Dawn.

The couple is going to spend several months in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with the rest of the cast and crew.

Plenty of the usual suspects are stirring rumors about Stewart and Pattinson trading their hotel accommodations for a “love nest.”

Today, Life & Style has an item about the two moving out of the Hilton and into their own “private love pad.” “They wanted more privacy,” an “insider” tells the magazine. “Plus, it’s more fun to play house in a real house.”

Always eager to hop on the nearest bandwagon, HollywoodLife picks up the report and runs with it, chiming, “Finally Rob and Kristen are getting plenty of one-on-one time together in their very own house!”

We’ve gotten a lot of inquiries this week on the subject.

Here’s what Gossip Cop knows:

Breaking Dawn cast members receive a per diem for living expenses, and they’re free to use it as they see fit. Pattinson and Stewart can stay anywhere they like, as long as it doesn’t interfere with production (obviously).

But here’s what Gossip Cop thinks about the “love nest” story.

We’re choosing to ignore it.

Pattinson and Stewart’s Eclipse shoot in Vancouver last year turned into a nightmare of endless paparazzi pursuits and little concern for privacy. Their hotel was under constant surveillance. Their co-stars’ lives were disrupted. And the experience (rightly) soured the couple on many aspects of celebrity.

Regardless of where Pattinson and Stewart live this winter and spring, they’ll already be in the public eye when they film or go out. That should be enough.

Speculating about where they spend their limited private moments won’t lead anywhere good.

It must be liberating to be able to bend reality to fit the story you want to tell.

Gossip Cop doesn’t have that luxury, but Famous magazine sure does!

In its continuing quest to offer up some of the tabloid world‘s lamest Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson “news,” the publication tries to convince readers that the couple’s widely publicized recent dates in Los Angeles served as an “awkward reunion.”

“Over the past few months they’ve not been together and had a taste for what life outside their inner circle is like,” explains a so-called “source” for Famous. “And they loved it.”

Stewart and Pattinson supposedly missed each other, but “also found the break liberating,” reports the magazine.

“They thought that they’d pick up where they left off” after reuniting in Los Angeles, says a “pal,” but “It was weird. They struggled to find something to talk about. It was just awkward.”

Hmm.

Was it as “awkward” as an entire article trying to use a series of nights spent together to allege that a couple has grown apart?

Because that’s pretty awkward.

The tab isn’t quite done with the charade, though, also observing that Pattinson’s friendship with Emma Watson “caused problems” (um, nope) and that his comments about the upcoming six-month Breaking Dawn shoot (“It can get a little boring”) somehow reflect “tension” with Stewart.

With a premise as weak as this one, not even Famous believes what it’s selling, hedging like crazy by the end.

A supposed “friend” tells the magazine, ”They’ve grown up, but they still love each other. They couldn’t continue the way they were going, but they’re still very much a couple,”

Huh?

Famous published a cover story that fabricated drama and strife. Since the real world doesn’t reflect any such problems, the story has to end with the parties exactly where they were before.

While big breakups have made headlines this week, it’s also been a busy season for weddings.

But certain outlets must be a little carried away with marriage madness, because dozens have picked up a Look magazine story that claims Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are set for a voodoo wedding before year’s end.

Um.

Huh?

“Kristen is quite dark so she wants a ceremony performed by a New Orleans voodoo priestess,” a so-called “source” tells the mag, according to Showbiz Spy.

This “ceremony” is supposedly scheduled for December.

Stewart and Pattinson are “keen to keep the details of the service secret,” says the story, which is awfully convenient for outlets that aren’t too concerned with reality.

It’s also nice for the magazine that the couple allegedly “won’t get rings” in order to keep speculation to a minimum, opting instead for “tokens of devotion” and matching hip tattoos.

Gossip Cop can’t believe this ridiculousness is worth spilling “ink,” so to speak, but tons of people have asked about the alleged voodoo nuptials for Pattinson and Stewart.

A source close to the couple laughingly tells us that there are no plans for a wedding (of any kind).

So to Look and all the rest, we’d ask, “How do you do that voodoo that you do so badly?”

We’re starting to get a headache from all the facepalms that come with reading HollywoodLife.

Even in a mostly nice item about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, the site manages to come off as both uninformed and mean-spirited.

As widely reported, the couple dined with friends in Los Angeles over the weekend, laughing and having a good time.

Pattinson “couldn’t bare [sic] to leave her side all night,” according to the HollywoodLife item.

OK. So far, so good.

But HollywoodLife probably should have quit while it was ahead.

Instead, it fishes around in the bottom of the barrel and pulls out the ridiculous, debunked premise that Pattinson’s pal Tom Sturridge is vying for Stewart’s romantic attention.

“Rob and Tom didn’t talk much all night,” a so-called “source” tells HollywoodLife. “By looking at them, you wouldn’t have known that they are best friends.”

According to the site’s supposed spy, Pattinson was affectionate with Stewart because he wanted to “show everyone,” including Sturridge, “that Kristen is his.”

Sigh.

For the thousandth time: There is no love triangle brewing among Pattinson, Stewart and Sturridge.

Pattinson was close with Stewart because — though it’s hard for some sites to fathom — they like each other.

Ah, but HollywoodLife isn’t satisfied merely suggesting that Pattinson is “wary” of Sturridge.

It also has to return to the ugly assertion that Stewart is typically a humorless grouch.

“Rob’s affection didn’t bother Kristen, who another source says was having fun and enjoying the time and attention,” continues the site.

“Sounds like Rob is the only one who can turn Kristen’s permanent frown upside down. FINALLY!”

Maybe HollywoodLife could “FINALLY” end these continuing attacks on Stewart.

It’s “Dark Times for ‘Twilight’ Couple’” Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, threatens an ominous headline in this week’s National Enquirer.

Uh-oh.

Even darker than the tense hours after Pattinson was allegedly almost killed by an elephant, as the same tabloid recently reported?

This time, according to the Enquirer, his relationship with Stewart is “on the rocks,” because she “has become resentful of [Pattinson's] friendship with his much older agent Stephanie Ritz.”

Seriously.

This is how desperate the magazines have become.

They’ve failed to accurately link Pattinson to a long list of other women. They’ve been unable to prove that his relationship with Stewart is as shaky as they claim it is.

The couple stays together, month after month.

So the Enquirer is forced to imply that Pattinson’s agent has come between him and Stewart.

“Rob and Stephanie have always been close, and Kristen is uncomfortable with it,” a “pal” tells the tab.

Then the tab goes on to describe how Pattinson spends a lot of time with Ritz.

Since this ridiculousness will certainly be picked up by the Enquirer‘s usual copycats, let Gossip Cop introduce some sanity.

Robert Pattinson is often with his agent because she’s his agent.

Kristen Stewart, who knows a thing or two about Hollywood, understands this.

Remember those “Sesame Street” shorts that would teach us the differences between opposites, like “hot” versus “cold” or “up” versus “down”?

HollywoodLife must not have paid too much attention.

Once again we visit the site’s alternate universe of blatant contradictions.

Last month, HollywoodLife bemoaned the “string of bad luck” Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart experienced with (supposed) bad timing.

Their “hellacious work schedules” were “keeping them apart,” claimed the site. After all, Stewart was beginning to film On the Road, while Pattinson was supposedly “tackling” Unbound Captives, meaning he had “no free time” to spend with her.

Gossip Cop pointed out that there actually was no start date for Unbound Captives, that Pattinson would have many chances to see Stewart, and that HollywoodLife just wanted to create some drama where there was absolutely none.

Fast forward to today.

“It’s a good thing that Robert Pattinson has so much free time on his hands, because that means he’s able to visit girlfriend Kristen Stewart at work whenever he pleases!” declares HollywoodLife.

Seriously.

That’s what the site now “reports,” based on an “insider.”

Somehow or another, according to HollywoodLife, Pattinson has “no free time” yet “so much free time.”

Those look like complete opposite premises to us.

Reality would probably be so frustrating for HollywoodLife… if it didn’t think of it as negotiable.

As soon as Robert Pattinson pal Tom Sturridge‘s participation in On The Road was exclusively confirmed to Gossip Cop, it was just a matter of time before this type of nonsense hit the tabloids…

Kristen Stewart‘s “blossoming friendship” with Sturridge has become a “sore spot” for her and Pattinson, claims In Touch.

Oh boy. Here we go.

“According to a friend, Kristen and Tom once were rivals for Rob’s attention,” reports the magazine, “with Kristen always jealous of the time Tom and Rob spent together.”

Wait, so the original issue was that Sturridge and Stewart were vying for Rob‘s attention?

After Pattinson “intervened and helped make peace” between Stewart and Sturridge, writes the tab, Stewart supposedly “occupied herself by spending nights with Tom” while Pattinson filmed Water for Elephants. Later, while Stewart and Sturridge filmed On The Road, Pattinson “raced to the Montreal set” after allegedly hearing rumors of their “on- and off-set flirtations.”

Now there’s a full-fledged “love triangle,” claims In Touch.

“Kristen is telling friends that she’s falling for Tom, as he has all of Rob’s great qualities without the baggage,” explains a so-called “friend.”

It must be nice for In Touch to “report” without the weight of “baggage” like facts.

There is no romance between Stewart and Sturridge.

Period.

Of course, the tabloids don’t care much how Stewart and Sturridge get along, as long as there’s fake drama to stir. We’re sure we’ll soon read all about how much the On The Road co-stars “hate” each other, and how that’s causing friction between Stewart and Pattinson.

There’s no “triangle” here. Just In Touch chasing itself in circles.

There is a report today that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have moved out of their purported “love nest.”

Supposedly, the couple stayed there every now and then when their respective filming schedules permitted.

A real estate agent for the property claims Pattinson and Stewart “are no longer renting the home,” according to E! Online, which also cites a source who says, “It wasn’t as private as they hoped.”

And that’s the real story here.

Whether or not Pattinson and Stewart have left the residence, whether or not they stayed there in the first place, it was not the media’s business to share specifics or photographs.

Gossip Cop made the point last month, when tabloids like Life & Style and outlets like HollywoodLife stooped to revealing pictures of the site even while acknowledging the couple’s well-documented desire for privacy.

Kudos to E! Online for admitting that its own (past) contribution to the feeding frenzy was a mistake and declining to divulge any new information it’s learned about Pattinson and Stewart’s private spots.

If only Life & Style, HollywoodLife and similarly invasive outlets would follow that example.

After a few days of invasive Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart coverage, it’s nice to see outlets getting back to good old-fashioned wrong reporting.

According to a British magazine Showbiz Spy cites, Pattinson’s recent visit to Montreal was meant to help Stewart get through a “breakdown.”

An anonymous “source” for the tabloid claims Stewart “can’t handle” her fame and “refused to go to this year’s Teen Choice Awards.”

“She’s filming On The Road in Montreal and could have gone,” continues the mag, “but didn’t want to have to face the media spotlight yet again.” Supposedly, Pattinson “knew that she was going through a hard time,” and flew immediately to Canada to “boost her spirits.”

Oh, but the magazine insists this “crisis” has been going for a long time. Its source alleges Stewart “has been at the breaking point ever since they finished filming Eclipse.”

Let’s all take some deep breaths and return to reality.

Kristen Stewart did not have a “breakdown.”

While it’s true that Stewart didn’t attend the Teen Choice Awards because of On The Road obligations, it’s just as true that she’s routinely made appearances in the months since Eclipse closed production. In fact, she presented a preview of that very film at the MTV Movie Awards.

Stewart has been in the public eye for years. Her discomfort with some aspects of celebrity is well documented, but that’s all it is: discomfort. There was no sudden panic while shooting On The Road. There was no cross-continent rescue mission for Pattinson.

But tabs feel the need to drum up drama instead of reporting what the Montreal trip actually was — a perfectly happy visit. It’s too bad that crisis sells.

Over the weekend we ran a story highlighting an incident in which paparazzi weaved through Los Angeles traffic in pursuit of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The actors received assistance from police before anyone was hurt.

But the chase again brought to the forefront how an intense tabloid culture sometimes crosses the line into dangerous or invasive behavior.

We’re reminded of that boundary today, as the gang over at HollywoodLife decided to breathe new life into rumors about Pattinson and Stewart’s supposed secret “love nest” — complete with a photo.

The site observes that Pattinson and Stewart are “intensely private people,” which is why “they’d choose a spot in the middle of nowhere.”

And then, without a hint of irony, HollywoodLife prints its “EXCLUSIVE!” report about the house they allege Pattinson and Stewart want to keep secret.

A “source” for the site dishes about the “huge gate, barbed wire and about 5 security cameras” near one entrance of the house, which is described as being “like a fortress.” And HollywoodLife includes a snapshot for anyone who wants a stronger visual.

Whether or not it’s a house Pattinson and Stewart share is no one’s business. We are not going to link to the HollywoodLife story.

Go to any newsstand and pick up titles like InStyle or Architectural Digest — or even some of the tabs we cover here each week. Celebrities who want to invite cameras to their homes have endless opportunities.

But public figures are entitled to privacy. And if Pattinson, Stewart, or anyone else needs a place to escape the glare of the lens, it should be possible to do so without bird’s eye photographs emerging, first in magazines like Life & Style, which printed the photos last week, and then on sites like HollywoodLife, which can’t leave bad enough alone.

Most of what we cover is relatively harmless. Who’s dating whom, who’s been cast in what, what did a tabloid pull out of its you-know-where… keeping the celebrity news media honest is usually light business.

This is not one of those stories.

According to TMZ, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were driving home from LAX airport in Los Angeles when they noticed paparazzi on their tail, “weaving through traffic.” Sources say the pair stopped into a police station to ask for help, and cops, fortunately, were able to shepherd them safely back on to the road.

Pattinson and Stewart finished their trip without further incident.

That’s the happy ending to a disturbing story.

But part of what makes it so frightening is that it now seems almost ordinary.

Pattinson himself has been pursued on the road before, he and Stewart have had photo bounties placed on them by reckless outlets, and paps have often turned their film shoots into spectacle.

They’ve handled the circus responsibly, as do most of the celebrities subjected to an escalating paparazzi culture driven toward greater and greater immediacy. But luck and alertness go only so far.

At some point, someone — Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Brad Pitt, Britney Spears, someone — will not see the weaving paparazzi until the terrible moment when the star, the photographer, or the mom whose minivan happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time gets hurt.

Showbiz Spy, which once placed a photo bounty on Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, tried to convince everyone four months ago that the two are “arguing endlessly,” and then insisted Pattinson was distancing himself from Stewart after her controversial paparazzi remarks, is at it again.

Reality proved otherwise.

Now the site picks up an unspecified “UK magazine” report that claims Stewart has turned to ex Michael Angarano to discuss her “relationship woes.”

“Michael’s the one person who Kristen knows will make her laugh when she’s down,” says one “insider.” Stewart’s allegedly “been calling him a lot,” and the conversations have made her realize “relationships are meant to be fun.”

Apparently, Stewart is “furious” after Pattinson revealed that he didn’t consider her his “soulmate,” a peculiar fantasy recently cooked up by — you guessed it! —  an unnamed “British magazine.” Stewart believed she and Pattinson “were heading for marriage,” but in the past few weeks “it seems like everything has started to go wrong.”

Where did it all start going wrong for Showbiz Spy and the tabloids it uses to “report”?

After all, it used to be that Pattinson and Stewart (allegedly) appeared in the same area code only for “promotional” reasons. Wouldn’t it stand to reason, then, that a couple said to be on the rocks wouldn’t have two date nights the week after their movie premieres? Especially with Stewart so “furious”?

Maybe dinners, movies and concerts aren’t “meant to be fun,” or at least not as much “fun” as the heart-wrenching talks Stewart and Angarano supposedly have.

The only one taking the “fun” out of Pattinson and Stewart’s relationship is… Showbiz Spy.

Sometimes, reading OK! magazine is like hearing a vinyl record skip… over and over again.

Last fall, the tab told readers Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were engaged.

They weren’t.

Then it published a cover showing the pair over the words “Wedding Of The Year” and tried to pass it off as a bombshell “Twilight Exclusive!” But the article was really about the eventual on-screen nuptials of their characters, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, which OK! blurred by claiming Pattinson and Stewart’s real-life relationship mirrored the one Stephenie Meyer wrote.

It was an exquisitely manipulative bait-and-switch.

Since OK! couldn’t force Pattinson and Stewart to marry by comparing their lives to fictional characters, the mag later tried to move things along by getting Stewart pregnant.

Wrong again.

So when the tabloid claims this week to have the couple’s “Wedding Details Revealed,” it’s all too familiar… and all too lame.

According to OK!, Pattinson and Stewart “will spend a lot of time stressing about what could be the next big event in their lives: their wedding!”

“Neither Rob nor Kristen is big on traditions or propriety,” an “insider” tells the mag, “so a ceremony would really be for everyone else.” The same OK! source adds, “Kristen’s a total tomboy. Her worst nightmare is having to pick out a big frilly white dress and bridesmaids’ dresses.”

Fortunately for Stewart, she won’t need to worry about big frilly dresses anytime soon – because she and Pattinson are not engaged.

The couple are also likely “to dismiss wedding frills like champagne and flowers.”

Gossip Cop can assure OK! that Pattinson and Stewart plan to dismiss the “wedding” part of the wedding, too.

There is no engagement. There are no “wedding details.”

Just OK! taking another honeymoon from actual reporting.

For a publication that occasionally prints fiction, In Touch sure has trouble grasping the concept of “make believe.”

Every time two people share a movie screen, the tab mistakes it for actual romance — or at least assumes everyone else does.

In April, the magazine fretted that Renee Zellweger‘s “worst nightmare” had come true as boyfriend Bradley Cooper “developed a tight bond” with The Dark Fields co-star Abbie Cornish.

Of course, there was nothing to it. Cooper and Cornish worked together on the movie… and that’s it.

In May, the tabloid insisted Demi Moore “may be on to something” in being suspicious of husband Ashton Kutcher‘s Friends With Benefits love scenes with Natalie Portman.

Again, the supposed jealousy was complete nonsense.

Now, In Touch sets its uniquely untrained eye on Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Stewart, argues the tab, ”has reason to worry” about Pattinson since he’s allegedly shared “secret dinners” with their mutual Twilight Saga cast mate, Anna Kendrick. Meanwhile, “another threat” to their relationship supposedly comes from his Water for Elephants co-star Reese Witherspoon.

A “set insider” tells In Touch Pattinson and Witherspoon “laugh, flirt and hang out together,” making Stewart so nervous she avoids visiting him at work.

Excuse Gossip Cop while we pause to chuckle at the story’s desperation.

In the Moore and Zellweger versions of this story, In Touch claimed each star visited her partner’s set out of jealousy and insecurity. Now, with Stewart not visiting the Water For Elephants production, all of a sudden that’s the sign of jealousy and insecurity.

Talk about choosing whatever logic happens to be most convenient.

Here’s another gem: According to the same “source,” Stewart is always asking Pattinson what he thinks of Witherspoon, “And while he admits she’s a great person, he doesn’t mention how attractive and fun he finds her.”

Is this a joke? The fact that Pattinson doesn’t say he finds Witherspoon “attractive and fun” is evidence that Stewart has become increasingly paranoid about their relationship?

A source close to Stewart tells Gossip Cop the entire premise is beyond laughable.

It seems like In Touch is way more insecure than any of the people it covers. What else could explain the bizarre lengths it travels to prove a baseless claim?

On the day his movie is set to make some serious waves at the box office, Eclipse producer Wyck Godfrey had some interesting things to tell Time magazine.

“Everyone is talking about whatever is going on between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart,” says his interviewer. “Is that good for business?”

“Do you want the honest answer? I haven’t even thought of it that way,” replies Godfrey.

When the interviewer presses, “That’s not the honest answer,” Godfrey responds in strikingly open language.

“It really is. I honestly don’t think of it in terms of business. It doesn’t affect our core business at all. The thing I do think about is, Oh my God, I hope they stay together. Because it could be awkward on set in the next movie if they have a huge falling out. It’s like, Wow, they have to portray this love story through two more movies. God, I hope they stay together; please stay together. That’s what affects my day-to-day.”

Referring to the publicity questions about their real-life relationship has generated, Godfrey continues, “I don’t feel it’s out there anymore. Do people still report on it? If you look at people who have a stable personal life, the rags get tired of them. I think we’re heading to that place where they are together and that’s their life and we better find someone new to create drama out of.”

Thousands of articles have theorized about the relationship between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, but rarely has one been as asinine as PopEater‘s latest effort.

“Perpetually in bad moods,” Pattinson and Stewart give “grumpy” sound bites and “glower at the cameras,” sneers the site… next to a photo of the pair smiling.

But PopEater isn’t satisfied to prove its point merely with the observational and photo editing skills of a wet sock.

How about some condescension?

Compared to Pattinson and Stewart, “Julius and Ethel Rosenberg look like Snooki and The Situation making out in a hot-tub,” chortles PopEater, scoffing, “If you’re too young to know who Julius and Ethel Rosenberg are, then R-Pattz and K-Stew are probably your romantic role models.”

Ah, yes, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. A couple executed in 1953 for atomic espionage. And, apparently, the gold standard for being “grumpy.”

If we didn’t know better, we’d say PopEater invokes the Rosenbergs (and Snooki!) while patronizing its readers because it has no actual case to make.

Oh, but it tries.

The main thrust of the article exploring their “deliciously suspicious romance” is that Pattinson and Stewart have faked it “to sell movie tickets.”

Here’s a summary of PopEater’s “argument”:

*** Stewart denied a relationship with Pattinson in a Nylon magazine interview while filming New Moon, saying that she and he were “good friends.”

OK. She gave that comment a year and a half ago. Why is this relevant?

*** Stewart and Pattinson were photographed “by a small-town blogger” on vacation on the Isle of Wight.

Yes. Um. What’s the point? They went on vacation because… they aren’t really dating?

*** Stewart and Pattinson “may or may not” have revealed (off camera) their relationship to Oprah Winfrey.

They didn’t. And if they had, so what?

*** Stewart attended the premiere of Pattinson’s Remember Me.

Yes, she did. Girlfriends regularly attend premieres. Platonic friends regularly attend premieres. Past and future co-stars regularly attend premieres. What does her presence have to do with a conspiracy to sell out theaters for, say, Eclipse? Especially when PopEater makes a point of saying she and Pattinson didn’t have much contact that night?

(Which itself is inaccurate. Gossip Cop was there the whole night. Pattinson and Stewart spent the entire after-party in a VIP area with a select group of friends and family.)

And… that’s pretty much all the article offers in the way of “specifics.”

PopEater then writes, “Perhaps the media wouldn’t be so suspicious of the real relationship between Rob and Kristen if there wasn’t such a massive financial incentive for them to lead us along.”

They don’t own Twilight. Their salaries have already been negotiated. That’s the beginning and end of their “financial incentive.”

“If Rob and Kristen really are just following the studio’s orders to generate heat for their films,” blusters PopEater, “At least it would explain why they’re so sour all the time.”

Wait.

So Summit’s grand plan is to force Pattinson and Stewart into faking a relationship that makes them “sour” with the press? Of course. Because everyone knows “sour” people with a “miserable attitude” are a huge draw at the box office. It’s why Andy Rooney’s been the decade’s biggest motion picture star.

There’s also this: It’s an awfully big commitment to pretend you’re dating for a few years (and five films) to the exclusion of dating other people.

But the biggest problem is that PopEater’s main argument doesn’t even makes sense.

If Stewart and Pattinson are forced into a publicity stunt relationship, wouldn’t it stand to reason that Summit would want it to gain… publicity?

The two stars shun the paparazzi. They avoid being photographed holding hands, kissing, etc. If, for instance, Summit planted Stewart at Pattinson’s Remember Me premiere to make it seem like they’re in a relationship… why would Pattinson walk the red carpet with co-star Emilie de Ravin? If they “forced” them to vacation together, why would it be on an island with zero paparazzi?

If they conspired with their studio to perpetuate a “fake relationship,” wouldn’t they be photographed just once holding hands and kissing on the red carpet or “accidentally” spotted around L.A. having romantic dinners together?

If this were a “fake relationship,” we’d see more photos of them together, not less.

The only thing “fake” here is PopEater’s premise.

“It’s Over” between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, declares Famous magazine in big, bold letters under the words, “Rob confirms to the US media.”

Really?

Pattinson NEVER confirmed that to the media.

NEVER ever.

Nevertheless, Famous, which is often famous for its imaginative, though not necessarily accurate cover stories, claims, “Robert confirmed the news late last week to stunned cast and crew members on the set of his latest flick Water for Elephants - in which he plays a vet who joins the circus – declaring, ‘I’m single.’”

The mag alleges, “A movie rep then confirmed to Fox News, ‘Rob is not dating anyone’” and emphasized, “He just tells everyone he is single.”

Famous, which likes to use the words “confirms” or “confirmed,” yet doesn’t actually confirm anything, goes on to say, “Friends of the star confirmed that Kirsten – who flew into Australia this week to promote the third instalment (sic) of the Twilight franchise, Eclipse – is devastated.”

Uh, she hardly looks devastated from the pics we’ve seen from Down Under.

We can go on and on with all the other nonsense Famous prints in this piece, including a “spy” telling the mag, “[Kirsten] really does love Robert. She won’t let him go without a fight,” but let’s consider what this entire story is based on – a WRONG report from the Fox411 blog.

Did those phrases “Rob is not dating anyone” and “He just tells everyone he is single” sound familiar?

They should.

In the false Fox411 report last week about Pattinson making the moves on Reese Withspoon, which Gossip Cop busted, a so-called Fox411 “insider” said, “Rob is not dating anyone… and he tells everyone he is single.”

Huh?

So Fox411’s “insider” suddenly became a “Fox rep” when reprinted in Famous?

Bottom line: the Famous article based its fake premise on an equally fake Fox411 blog story.

None of these things were ever said, and the story is not true.

Famous is just becoming famous for its famously inaccurate cover stories.

Since happiness and good cheer are boring, Us Weekly creates a bizarre alternate reality where Kristen Stewart “tortures” Robert Pattinson.

Confused?

See, Robsten’s “love may be discreet, but their fights sure aren’t,” explains the magazine that once asked its readers to believe that Jennifer Aniston uses Architectural Digest as a weapon against ex-husband Brad Pitt.

Apparently, Stewart and Pattinson “had a spat on set” during Eclipse reshoots, sniping at each other “in full view of cast and crew.”

Uh-huh. Would this be the same “fight” about Pattinson being “late”? The one that never happened?

It’s all part of what the mag describes as a “stormy romance” in which Stewart “snaps” at Pattinson in public and, says a “source,” refuses to see them as “boyfriend and girlfriend.”

Of course, Us Weekly has no way of demonstrating what it claims.

So instead, it illustrates its “torture” theory by mentioning how Stewart and Pattinson arrived at the recent Oprah taping separately and then walked through the airport separately before “ducking into the private American Airlines Admirals Club together.”

Um, kinda sounds like two high-profile people who value their privacy.

Where do we sign up for this “torture”?

Weirdly, the tab seems to be arguing that Kristen Stewart is barely invested in a relationship… she’s desperately trying to hide.

And Kristen Stewart is desperately trying to hide a relationship, how? By feuding loudly in public?

How exactly does Stewart’s alleged “obsession with cloak-and-dagger secrecy,” as the mag calls it, reconcile with her penchant for public brawls?

It doesn’t.

None of this makes sense.

Kristen Stewart is not pregnant.

Let’s get that out of the way.

But while most fans knew that already, it’s instructive to discuss OK! magazine’s latest bait-and-switch cover, the one attempting to fool people at newsstands nationwide.

In advance of tomorrow’s big Oprah interview with Eclipse stars Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, the magazine screams, “Rob Tells Oprah: ‘Kristen’s Pregnant!’

Right beneath the headline it reads: “The inside story behind Rob’s shocking backstage revelation to Oprah.”

Let’s pause.

The logical conclusion to draw from these two statements is that Pattinson told the host, off camera, that Stewart is pregnant. In fact, the only conclusion to draw is that Pattinson made a “shocking backstage revelation,” and that it was Stewart’s pregnancy.

Now flip to the story itself, which is called, “Why Rob Told Oprah Kristen’s Pregnant!”

Still sounds like a pretty straightforward declaration of pregnancy.

At the May 6 taping, continues OK!, the host asked Robsten, “Is talk of a relationship true?” She got a “doozy of an answer from Rob: ‘Kristen’s pregnant.’”

Which is stunning… until you read further.

“Then Kristen joked that Rob’s the one who’s pregnant,” claims the mag.

Wait a minute. Isn’t that what E! Online reported happens on stage and on camera during the show? As a complete goof? After a (supposed) backstage deal so that Stewart and Pattinson wouldn’t be pressed on the relationship issue during the interview itself?

Yup, that’s exactly what OK! is lifting here to use as manipulative bait.

The joking exchange about Stewart being pregnant.

A comment OK! acknowledges is a joke before trotting out a “relationship expert” to claim Pattinson’s laugher “could mask a real desire to have kids.”

Sound like a familiar tactic? It should.

Back in September, the same magazine pretended a fictional wedding between characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen was all it needed to tout a so-called “Twilight Wedding” exclusive on its cover.

In October, the tab acted as though it had an exclusive “home” interview with Stewart and Pattinson. Nope, just more manipulation.

And so it is the same with today’s “revelation.”

OK! took another site’s details about an on-camera joke and an alleged off-camera secret agreement, and blurred them to make it seem as though it had scored a Kristen Stewart pregnancy shocker.

It’s just plain lame.

“Rob & Kristen Confirm They’re Dating — to Oprah!” screams a headline that sent Twilight fans into a frenzy this afternoon.

According to an E! Online story, when the cameras weren’t rolling on Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Dakota Fanning – for an episode to air May 13 –  Oprah Winfrey asked Pattinson and Stewart backstage if they were really a couple.

The report claims they “confirmed to Oprah backstage they are in fact dating.”

Oprah supposedly informed Pattinson and Stewart that she had to “go there” and ask on-camera if they were or weren’t together, knowing they wouldn’t address it seriously in public. But privately, “she wanted to know what was really happening.”

Says a so-called “spy”: “Obviously Oprah had to ask something during the taping, but agreed beforehand she wouldn’t be too hard on [Rob and Kristen] if they told her what was really going on. Both Rob and Kristen’s people and Summit then confirmed ahead of time [Rob and Kristen] are together and are dating. One hundred percent.”

Whether Pattinson and Stewart are dating is really up to them to discuss. Just this week in Elle magazine, Stewart said, “I would never cheapen my relationships by talking about them.”

Robsten may be together, but one thing Gossip Cop knows for a fact – after spending a good part of the day working on this – is that NO reps ever confirmed it to Oprah.

That scenario never happened, and when asked whether Oprah got the scoop off-camera because she simply had to know, a rep for the talk show queen tells Gossip Cop “it’s not true.”

On the day Oprah Winfrey premiered the new trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on her program, word arrived of an even bigger vampire invasion next month.

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Dakota Fanning are all scheduled to appear on “Oprah” on May 13 to promote Eclipse.

Pattinson, Stewart, and Lautner appeared together on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” back in November for New Moon.

Perez, who calls Meester a “sneaky little maneater,” claims “sources have spotted RPatz entering Meester’s NYC apartment, and we’re guessing he made that good girl go bad all night long, because our boo didn’t leave until the next morning!!”

Would these be the same “sources” who told him Fidel Castro is dead and Jaclyn Smith shot herself in the head?

According to a magical spy Perez cites, Pattinson “ducked out of the building and hopped into a waiting car. He apparently spent the night with Leighton, and didn’t want anyone to know… She talks with Rob almost daily.”

In a misguided cheap shot at Kristen Stewart, the bad blogger then says, “SURE KStew is going to be EXTRA SOUR when she reads this.”

Actually the only thing sour is Perez’s “reporting.”

A source close to Meester assures Gossip Cop this tale is untrue.

Whenever HollywoodLife claims to have “exclusive details,” Gossip Cop feels a shiver while local animals, sensing that something’s amiss, race for higher ground.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart‘s recent reunion in Budapest got a lot of buzz, so you just knew the site would hop on the bandwagon… and drive it straight into a ditch.

“The hardworking couple have been separated by the demands of their thriving careers,” explains HollywoodLife, which carefully avoids the demands of actual reporting.

So what has the site “learned” exclusively?

According to HollywoodLife, Stewart had a party for her twentieth birthday “for about 20 friends and family” in the Hollywood Hills on Friday, April 9. Then the actress “hopped on a plan (sic) to REALLY celebrate with the love of her life” in Budapest.

WRONG.

Stewart was not in Los Angeles on Friday. We’re not sure where HollywoodLife got its information (the site conveniently leaves out that detail), but Stewart was in Budapest already. Multiple sightings and reports placed her there before Friday, April 9.

Oh, and HollywoodLife’s version of events also makes no sense logically.

Let’s say Stewart left her own Hollywood Hills “party” on Friday as early as 11:00PM Pacific. That’s 8:00AM Saturday in Budapest.

Assuming the plane took off immediately from the top of a Hollywood Hills home, it would be about fourteen and a half hours to get to Budapest (on a direct flight).

But Gossip Cop is going to be generous.

We’ll assume the magical HollywoodLife airplane made the journey in 13 hours, and we’ll chalk it up to good “tail wind” (a phrase that sums up this story).

That would mean Stewart arrived in Budapest at 9:00 PM on Saturday night.

Oh, wait, when did Stewart leave Budapest?

On Sunday.

There are even some photos you may have heard about. And just to be sure, Gossip Cop confirmed with the photo agency. Pattinson and Stewart were at the airport for departure from Budapest on Sunday.

So, if you believe HollywoodLife’s account, Stewart flew from Los Angeles to Hungary, spent the night, and then immediately turned around.

REALLY?

Actually, this deserves to be bolded.

HollywoodLife has had unfortunate Robsten air travel moments before, but we think the bar has now been somehow lowered.

British OK! posted a charming little item earlier today.

“Robert Pattinson ‘to wed’ Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart,” reads the headline.

Wait, what?

“Robert Pattinson may soon get down on one knee and propose” to Stewart, claims OK!, citing “reports.”

Uh huh. Details, please?

The couple “are said to keep their romance alive despite busy schedules through constant communication,” continues the tab.

What does this have to do with getting married?

Pattinson recently revealed he was “thinking about buying a home,” reports OK!, adding that he’s been “afraid to invest in case he ran out of work.”

What… does this… have to do… with getting married?

The actor is “clearly considering his future,” explains the magazine. “And if the rumours are right (sic) lucky Kristen could be a big part of it.”

Um, where’s the rest of this article?

The part that explains where the engagement rumors are supposedly being “reported.” The part that gives some indication of a timetable and mentions when and where the engagement could happen. The part that bothers to quote a so-called “insider” or offers even a single lame “detail”?

That part is missing entirely.

“We are very jealous,” OK! says of Stewart, concluding abruptly.

Gossip Cop is jealous, too.

Jealous of sites that go to sleep while we’re up day and night having to fact-check and bust their bad dish.

The dubious Robert Pattinson interview is a time-honored tradition.

There are those memorable instances when a months-old comment is construed as “new” or an obvious joke as a “revelation.”

Sometimes a magazine will make it sound as though personal subjects never discussed actually were.

Often an interview didn’t happen.

Sometimes Gossip Cop even manages to force publications to remove offending, fabricated quotes.

Now comes an “interview” in Look magazine that seems (mostly) believable… except for the very first question and answer.

“You’ve finally admitted you and Kristen [Stewart] are together,” Look begins. “What’s the secret to winning your heart?”

Replies Pattinson, supposedly, “Money! And an unbelievable amount of patience.”

A couple of things.

First, Pattinson never “admitted” to dating Stewart. We hate to say it over and over, but outlets keep building on top of faulty premises built from reports that were never accurate. Again, this is NOT to say Pattinson and Stewart are or are not a couple.

But this ridiculous habit of treating their personal decisions as matters of public discourse — even after they’ve repeatedly shied away from discussing them — has got to stop.

Which brings us to our second point. While most of Pattinson’s responses in the Look piece seem to be consistent with what he’s said in other places while promoting Remember Me, answering a non-professional Kristen Stewart question with talk about how “money” is a key to his heart just seems… well, completely uncharacteristic.

Pattinson may have given a general answer about what he’s looking for in a woman with the “patience” portion, but it is NOT about Stewart.

And to use “Kristen Needs Patience to Date Me!” as a direct quotation and as the headline is a complete misrepresentation.

Pattinson said no such thing.

It seems like the magazine used a manipulated, highly dubious quote to frame an otherwise run-of-the-mill chat.

Gossip Cop felt an unpleasant tingle in our knee this morning.

It either means there’s rain coming, or Famous magazine put a certain Twilight twosome on its cover.

“For weeks Kristen Stewart has known there’s something wrong in her relationship with Robert Pattinson,” writes the tab.

Stewart “doesn’t know exactly what it is” but “says she can feel Rob drifting away.”

Here we go.

And what’s the major problem for the pair?

They’ve been “separated by intense work commitments,” Famous explains.

The tab even digs up an “insider” who reports, “They’ve barely seen each other these last few months” with Stewart promoting The Runaways in the United States and Pattinson filming Bel Ami in London.

Wow! This “insider” must have incredible access… to mainstream media and maps! How else would anyone have the inside “scoop” that two heavily-booked actors have professional commitments requiring frequent travel?

While filming Twilight in Vancouver, Pattinson and Stewart got “used to seeing each other all day, every day,” whispers the mag, whereas “now they are on different continents — and it’s really testing their relationship.”

And what (besides the inconveniently placed Atlantic Ocean) is supposedly imperiling the couple?

“Friends believe that the actor is upset over the performance of his new film Remember Me,” asserts Famous. A “close source” adds, “He’s so upset, especially as [The Runaways] is doing great and everyone is talking about what a massive career [Stewart] has ahead of her.”

OK, let’s stop right here.

Robert Pattinson — who’s in London because he’s filming a highly anticipated movie, and around whom casting rumors swirl every week — is so consumed by jealousy of The Runaways (two weeks before its wide release) that his ego is now terribly “bruised” and his relationship with Kristen Stewart on the brink?

Gossip Cop suspects it’s actually another “bruised” ego at work here.

It might be the “bruised” ego of Famous magazine, which has been very wrong, very often on the subject. Like its claim that Pattinson and Taylor Lautner were embroiled in feud (wrong), or that Lautner and Stewart were “caught” in an “affair” (wrong). Or the mag’s insistence that Stewart alienated everyone on the set of Eclipse (wrong), but would be touring Australia with Pattinson (wrong).

More recently, of course, Famous whined when the pair didn’t live their personal lives according to the mag’s approved timetable.

Gossip Cop will toss this newest example of the magazine’s Robsten “journalism” into the same garbage bin.
