It looks like the rivalry between “American Idol” and “The Voice” won’t be going away anytime soon.

After Randy Jackson recently implied that “The Voice” is for failed singers who want a “second chance,” the judges on the NBC competition were none too pleased.

“Shame on Randy Jackson for saying that, because he out of anybody should know that if you’re in this business you need second, third, fourth and fifth chances,” Adam Levine says on Friday’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Jackson originally made his comments during the Television Critics Association’s Winter press tour last month.

He told reporters, “The winner of ‘The Voice,’ as I will remind you, was an artist who had a deal on Capitol for many years – a failed contract over there – so for that show it was almost like second chance people, it wasn’t like some new artist. It’s a different thing.”

During Levine’s response on “Ellen,” he points out that Jackson’s own career was given new life thanks to the hit Fox series.

“He was a working musician for a long time and had a lot of success and then the show ‘Idol’ kind of blew him out of the water,” Levine explains. “And he is a household name now.”

“It was an irresponsible thing to say that,” he adds.

The very first St. Louis audition shown on Thursday’s “American Idol” received one of the most enthusiastic responses from the judges that we’ve seen yet.

Johnny Keyser, a 22-year-old student and waiter, blew the panel away as he sang Sam Cooke‘s “A Change Is Gonna Come.”

While Steven Tyler wanted to vote “yes” before Keyser was even finished, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson told him to “keep singing” just so they could hear more of his striking voice.

“American Idol” offered its most bizarre audition so far this season on Wednesday’s episode, which featured a man named Magic Cyclops.

The self-professed singer, supposedly from Iowa even though he spoke with a British-sounding accent, stunned the judges with his rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Cracklin Rose.”

Randy Jackson seemed so confused and offended that he actually walked out.

Needless to say, Magic Cyclops was not one of the 31 contestants who received tickets to Hollywood during the Aspen, Colorado auditions.

The “American Idol” judges battled it on Wednesday’s episode, where they disagreed over the talents of Angie Zeiderman.

After the “show-tuney” performance of “If You Got It, Flaunt It” from The Producers, Jennifer Lopez tried to convince Randy Jackson that Zeiderman deserved to go to Hollywood.

“How many people come in here and can do what she just did?” Lopez asked, before encouraging the 25-year-old to sing again.

Lopez explained, “I just wanna shut him up!”

The expectations were low when University of California, Berkeley frat boy Kyle Crews walked into his “American Idol” audition with his Seth Rogen demeanor and not-so-cool plaid shirt. But when he started to sing Monica’s “Angel of Mine,” the judges were blown away.

Steven Tyler said Crews had “the best male voice we’ve heard yet… unreal.”

Randy Jackson told the contestant, “You sound nothing like you look… Kyle, you can sing, dude.”

And Jennifer Lopez loved Crews, too.

Ali Shields’ “American Idol” audition featured her appearing on “Ellen,” getting her first kisses from Usher and Mike Posner, rapping, doing “ghetto dancing,” and even singing the Corinne Bailey Rae song, “Like a Star.”

Randy Jackson summed it up best when he said, “This is the craziest audition.”

Hallie Day brought some refreshing honesty – along with an interesting set of pipes – to her “American Idol” audition.

As seen on Thursday’s episode, the Baltimore native (trying out in Pittsburgh) revealed she hit “rock bottom” several years prior when a suicide attempt landed her in the emergency room.

Now happily married and working as a waitress, Day infused her audition with some of her hard-earned life experience.

Her song of choice? Gloria Gaynor‘s “I Will Survive.”

Though the judges seemed mixed at first and asked Day to sing a second time, they ultimately unanimously decided to send her to Hollywood.

Asked Randy Jackson, “You know what’s wrong with this girl, Steven?”

“Absolutely nothing,” Tyler replied.

It was an “American Idol” first on Thursday, when one contestant auditioned while her sister was planking on the floor in front of her.

That’s right – planking.

Samantha Novacek, who perhaps ironically was singing former “Idol” winner Carrie Underwood’s “Flat On The Floor,” belted it out while sibling Patty was spread out, well, flat on the floor.

Both the judges and viewer seemed bemused – “Patty the Pittsburgh Planker” started trending on Twitter and Randy Jackson said he liked 19-year-old Samantha’s “vibe.”

Conrad Murray was just sentenced to the maximum of four years of imprisonment.

Among those at the sentencing on Tuesday were Michael Jackson‘s mom Katherine, brothers Jermaine and Randy, and sisters Rebbie and La Toya, as well as family friend Kathy Hilton.

Before the sentencing, the Jackson family’s attorney, Brian Panis, read a heartfelt statement on behalf of the singer’s parents, siblings, and children.

The prosecution then argued strenuously against sentencing Murray to probation, which the defense had fought for.

“Prison is warranted,” said the prosecution, and asked for the maximum of four years.

The prosecution also asked restitution for Jackson’s lost wages and earnings, amounting to $100 million.

“We do not disagree with the prosecution that this is a tragedy,” said the defense, but he is “not a danger to the community.”

Prior to Jackson’s death, Murray “never committed a crime,” stressed the defense, which went on to say that whatever he does, for the rest of his life he’ll always be “known as the man who killed Michael Jackson.”

Still, the defense felt Murray should not serve time, and that he “can do things on probation… for the community.”

The judge began by saying it’s “difficult” to impose a sentence, especially when one has discretion.

That said, the judge felt Murray practiced a pattern of “deceit,” which including lying to law enforcement and medical personnel.

The judge went on to say he believed Murray taped Jackson’s slurred speech as an “insurance policy” to be used against the singer should the two ever part ways.

And he used Murray’s documentary to show there was no remorse either on the doctor’s part.

The judge continually slammed Murray, saying, ”He remains dangerous” and ”I think Dr. Murray is so reckless… that I believe he’s a danger to the community.”

“You can’t have probation when there isn’t an acknowledgement of rehabilitation,” said the judge who denied Murray probation, and sentenced the doctor to the maximum of four years behind bars at the L.A. County Jail.

The issue of restitution will be addressed at a later date.

On November 7, after a six weeks-long trial that included testimony from 49 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.

Dr. Conrad Murray was just found GUILTY of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.

The seven-man, five-woman California jury announced its decision moments ago.

Dr. Murray sat stone-faced during the decision, which was greeted by a little cheering in the court and a loud celebration outside the courthouse.

Among those who let out a brief yell in court, much to the judge’s dismay, was La Toya Jackson. Family friend Kathy Hilton wept.

Michael Jackson’s parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson, and his brothers, Jermaine and Randy Jackson, remained silent.

Murray’s mother and daughter, on the other hand, cried when the decision was read.

The verdict comes after a six weeks-long trial that included testimony from 49 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence concerning Jackson’s June 2009 death, caused by a lethal dose of propofol.

Dr. Murray will be sentenced on November 29. He faces up to four years in jail.

The judge remanded Dr. Murray immediately into custody without the possibility of bail.

He was then handcuffed and led out of the court.

“American Idol” judge Steven Tyler and “X Factor” judge Nicole Scherzinger put aside their shows’ rivalry by performing together — and sharing an onstage kiss — at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas over the weekend.

The 63-year-old rocker and the former Pussycat Doll locked lips after performing Tyler’s new single “(It) Feels So Good.”

Fellow “Idol” judge Randy Jackson played guitar for Tyler and Scherzinger’s duet.

Christina Aguilera is joining Cee Lo Green, Leona Lewis and the band Alien Ant Farm, as well as members of the Jackson family for the Michael Jackson tribute concert slated for this fall.

Today, organizers announced some of the performers for “Michael Forever — The Tribute Concert,” which will take place at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on October 8.

As Gossip Cop previously reported, though the late singer’s mom, Katherine and siblings La Toya, Jackie, Marlon, and Tito support the concert, Jermaine and Randy oppose its timing since it will take place during the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, who is charged in the King of Pop’s death.

More names of performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Michael Jackson‘s mom, Katherine, and siblings La Toya, Jackie, Marlon, and Tito announced today “Michael Forever — The Tribute Concert,” slated for October 8 at Millennium Stadium in Wales.

The Jacksons, however, did not reveal which performers will participate in the show.

Katherine said she was proud of the event.

“If my son was here today,” she said, “he would feel the same way, and so I’d like to say thank you very much for helping to keep my son’s legacy alive.”

But not all of the Jacksons support the tribute concert.

Shortly after the show was announced, Jermaine and Randy Jackson released a statement on Twitter that said they had a problem with its timing.

“While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death.”

“There will come a time and place for an amazing and deserving tribute to Michael,” they added, “but we feel that the most important tribute we can give to our brother at this time is to seek justice in his name.”

Katherine and Michael’s siblings who were present for the announcement said they will attend the October concert.

Randy Jackson just did an informal twitter interview with fans, and shockingly revealed that Tina Tuner once shot him.

Michael Jackson‘s youngest brother told followers, “Yes, Tina Turner shot me. I have the scar to prove it.”

Jackson says the incident occurred in the eighties, when “I went to Tina’s house to see my girlfriend. I guess I caught them off guard.”

“I don’t hold a grudge against Tina, she’s a great artist an asset to our industry,” Jackson quickly added.

Turner’s former assistant Eddy Hampton Armani wrote about the alleged incident in his 1998 book The Real T: My 22 Years with Tina Turner, however, the episode has never been confirmed by Turner or anyone else.

Haley Reinhart slipped on stage during her performance of Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be” on “American Idol” last night, but that didn’t stop the singer from dazzling the judges.

“This girl is slaying it!” declared Randy Jackson.

“It’s not about how many times you fall, it’s about how many times you get up,” said Steven Tyler, referring to Reinhart’s slip.

Adding to the moment was the fact that Reinhart’s father Harry played guitar for her performance.

Casey Abrams is certainly gaining confidence on “American Idol” – he kissed Jennifer Lopez at the end of his performance last night!

“Casey’s got soft lips,” said J.Lo after Abrams gave her a smooch following his rendition of Maroon 5‘s “Harder to Breathe.”

“I loved it,” she said, adding, “the performance!”

Steven Tyler was also impressed by the singer’s offstage act. He said, “You did what I’ve been trying to do for four months.”

And about his singing, Tyler told Abrams: “You’re so f***ing great.”

Another highlight from last night, whose theme was music from the 21st century, was James Durbin‘s performance of Muse‘s “Uprising.”

Randy Jackson said that Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, who was at the show a few weeks ago with baby momma Kate Hudson, challenged Durbin to up the octave on the last chorus – and he “slayed it.”

In a shocker that left the judges angry and studio audience members booing, “American Idol” viewers failed to give Pia Toscano the votes she needed to advance into the next round.

Toscano was considered by many to be the best singer in the field.

“I have no idea what just happened here,” said a stunned Jennifer Lopez after Toscano’s early elimination was announced.

“I’m shocked. I’m angry.”

Fellow judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler echoed the sentiments, but were unable to rescue Toscano after using their “save” on Casey Abrams two weeks ago.

Casey Abrams was saved by “American Idol” judges tonight after viewers voted to send the singer home.

Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson unanimously elected to use their single Season 10 “save” to spare Abrams from elimination, even though the singer received the lowest number of votes from the public.

“This is crazy wrong,” said Tyler after Jackson stopped Abrams’ “sing for your life” performance just as it got underway.

“We’ve made a decision here to keep you on.”

Abrams was understandably overwhelmed by emotion.

Jennifer Lopez had a very tough time saying it was over for “American Idol” wannabe Chris Medina.

Medina’s heartbreaking personal story – his fiancee Juliana Ramos was left with a brain injury from a devastating car accident – really struck a chord with J. Lo over the past few weeks.

However, Medina didn’t make the cut for the Top 24, and Lopez broke down after delivering the bad news.

Medina, however, handled his dismissal admirably, telling the judges that his fiancee getting the chance to meet them was “the best time of her life.”

Immediately after Medina made his exit Lopez exploded into tears.

“I just don’t feel like I told him in the right way,” she sobbed, to which Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson assured her she handled it in the best possible way.

Chris Medina shook up the “American Idol” judges last night with an emotional story and audition.

The 26-year-old told Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson about his fiancee, Juliana Ramos, who suffered a traumatic brain injury after a horrible car accident.

Medina then sang “Break Even” by The Script, hoping to make it through to Hollywood because he thought it would allow Ramos “to be happy again.”

More than impressed, the judges gave Medina a ticket to California and gave Ramos herself a warm embrace.

It’s not the first time during these auditions an emotional performance struck a real chord.

In a piece titled, “Nobody misses Simon,” the New York Post quotes Ryan Seacrest taking verbal jabs – in an Entertainment Weekly cover - at former “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell.

The Post writes, “The put-down war between Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest hasn’t stopped just because Cowell quit the show.”

As an example, the paper quotes Seacrest telling Entertainment Weekly, “He was just so jealous of me. From day one, he was envious of my career at such a young age.”

The Post also has Seacrest saying that without Cowell on the program, ”It’s aged the show down a bit. There are less clouds of smoke. We start earlier. There’s less – what’s that English dish he always ordered for lunch? – Shepherd’s Pie.”

But what the tabloid shockingly neglects to mention is that Seacrest was joking.

Even the Entertainment Weekly story notes, “[Randy laughs.]” after Seacrest says, “It’s aged down a bit.”

And if you read the whole EW piece, it’s beyond obvious that Seacrest – who acknowledges “we learned a lot from [Cowell]” – is kidding about the Brit judge being “jealous” of him.

In fact, the entire article is a series of jokes made by, and at the expense of, the full “American Idol” team, including Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson.

Before the “jealous” remark, when Seacrest is asked if the new judges had to go through any rites of passage, Seacrest cracks, “We Saran-wrapped Steven to a tree naked.” He also jokes, “Jennifer sent us the paragraph that we have to memorize when we greet her every day. It’s just full of compliments.”

While the Post claims, “Nobody misses Simon,” in reality, the paper simply misses Seacrest’s humor.

“American Idol” is going to look a little bit different this year.

Not only have Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler been added as judges, but executive producer Nigel Lythgoe just revealed some changes to the show’s format itself.

The show will do away with the round that reduces the number of contestants from 24 to 12, instead just starting with a Top 12.

“I didn’t think [the Top 24] were very good, I was bored with them by the time they got there,” Lythgoe tells TV Guide.com.

Also announced: Theme weeks will focus on decades instead of individual artists.

Finalists will be required to make music videos and create an awards-show style performance, among other new challenges.

More changes could be on the way, so stay tuned.

The competition returns to Fox on January 12.

Fox will air the world premiere of Justin Bieber‘s “Never Say Never” before Game 3 of the World Series on Saturday.

To encourage younger viewership, the San Francisco Giants vs. Texas Rangers broadcast will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET, the earliest start time for a World Series game in 23 years.

Bieber filmed the video while wearing gear for both teams at Angels Stadium in Los Angeles.

Before the game starts, Kelly Clarkson will sing the national anthem. Her old “American Idol” friends Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson are set to unveil the winners of the World Series of Costumes photo contest.

Ryan Seacrest announced today what Gossip Cop was the first outlet in the world to announce back in July – Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have been tapped to be new judges on “American Idol.”

As expected, the two music icons join longtime judge Randy Jackson for the show’s tenth season.

Auditions will be held in Los Angeles today, followed by New Jersey next week.

Additionally, Jimmy Iovine, the chairman of Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records, will mentor the contestants.

The new season will premiere in January on FOX.

As “American Idol” gears up for auditions later this month, a source confirms to Gossip Cop that a formal announcement of the show’s new judges panel is imminent.

In fact, multiple sites are now saying what Gossip Cop was the first to report exclusively in July: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are expected to be the show’s newest judges.

It’s a go for both superstars to join Randy Jackson at the judges’ table for the hit show’s tenth season.

And though some sites inaccurately reported that negotiations with Lopez were difficult, we hear neither singer had out-of-the-ordinary negotiations.
