Report: Defense to argue Michael Jackson killed himself

The story making the rounds today is that Dr. Conrad Murray, the man accused of administering Michael Jackson a lethal dose of Propofol, will use the defense that he gave the King of Pop a safe amount of the drug in order for him to sleep, but that when he left the room for a little bit, the singer woke up and self-medicated, causing his own death.

“Dr. Murray left the room for approximately two minutes to go to the bathroom,” TMZ reports his lawyers will argue, and while he was outside of Jackson’s bedroom, the singer woke up and self-injected nearly seven times his usual amount of Propofol, “causing a massive overdose that stopped his heart.”

When Dr. Murray returned, he noticed Jackson’s eyes were open and his pupils were dilated, and immediately began administering CPR, his side will contend.

The defense, according to the report, will claim that Jackson was a Propofol addict, who liked the rush of the drug being administered by IV, and therefore shot himself up with so much of it that it led to him accidentally killing himself.

Conrad Murray Charged with Michael Jackson Death; Expected to be Released on $75,000 Bail

Dr. Conrad Murray, the late Michael Jackson‘s physician, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the pop icon’s death.

He’ll be arraigned at 1:30PM Pacific time.

He’s expected to plead “not guilty.”

A conviction carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison.

Jackson died of cardiac arrest on June 25, 2009, under the controversial Murray’s care.

A just-released copy of the L.A. County Coroner’s report concludes that Propofol killed the entertainer. The “manner of death” is “homicide.”

Sealed until today, the report will be part of Dr. Murray’s prosecution.

UPDATE – 6:00PM –

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s website, Dr. Conrad Murray has been booked (officially), with bail set at $75,000.

Reportedly, a bail bondsman will put up the sum so Murray can be released.

This afternoon he pled not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges.

The medical board has filed a motion to strip Murray of his medical license.

Sitting behind prosecutors in the courtroom were family members including Joe Jackson, Katherine Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jackie Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, LaToya Jackson, and Randy Jackson.
