Karl Lagerfeld was at Metro’s Paris office on Monday acting as guest editor, and the fashion icon took a few minutes to share his thoughts on the news of the day.

That’s when things got interesting.

Asked about up-and-coming singer Lana del Rey, who was lambasted for her recent “Saturday Night Live” performance, Chanel‘s creative director said, “I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer [del Rey] is not bad. She looks very much like a modern-time singer.”

Added Lagerfeld, “In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.”

“The thing at the moment is Adele,” observed the designer, adding, “She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”

Yikes.

Lagerfeld was also asked about President Obama, and said he deserves to be reelected “especially because of Mrs. [Michelle] Obama.

“I’m a big fan of Mrs. Obama – and her face, I think, is magical. He [Obama] would not be there without her,” explained Lagerfeld.

“Mrs. Obama is not a fashion statement, but she has other things to do,” continued Lagerfeld. “My favorite thing about Mrs Obama was when she was asked if her skirt was not too tight and she answered “Why you don’t like my big black a**?”

He concluded, “I want Obama to win because there is nothing better anyway, and especially because of her.”

“American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe was so impressed with President Obama’s rendition of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” that he’s invited the Commander-in-Chief to perform on the reality show.

Lythgoe tweeted on Monday, ”@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we’d love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green.”

Obama debuted his stellar singing talents during a fundraiser at Harlem’s Apollo Theater earlier this month.

Scarlett Johansson and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will host a fashion event in New York City to benefit President Obama’s reelection campaign.

The fundraiser is set for February 7 at the Theory store in the Meatpacking District, and will be attended by such designers as Beyonce, Diddy, Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Georgina Chapman and Vera Wang.

The event is part of Runway to Win, a campaign initiative by fashion designers who support Obama’s reelection, and will feature Obama-themed clothing and accessories crafted by the designers.

Chuck Norris, considered by some as the most valuable Republican celebrity endorser, has thrown his support behind Newt Gingrich.

“President Obama has tried and failed miserably to fix our economy,” writes Norris in a new column for the conservative site WND, adding, “Rome is burning, and we need to appoint the best firemen possible to rush in and put out her fury. What’s critical at this point is to appoint a commander in chief who can clearly lead America to a more solvent and secure future.”

“No man or candidate is perfect,” notes Norris, alluding to Gingrich’s personal foibles.

“We all have skeletons in our closet. If buried bones became unforgivable bones of contention, the world would never know or will never know another Benjamin Franklin, King David and others like them. We must remember that we’re electing a president, not a pastor or pope. And with the mainstream media and a billion-dollar Obama campaign coffer on the president’s side, we need a veteran of political war who has already fought Goliath, because he will be facing Goliath’s bigger brother.”

That’s why, says Norris, “My wife, Gena, and I, we sincerely believe former Speaker Newt Gingrich… deserves our endorsement and vote.”

He goes on to explain, “We believe Newt’s experience, leadership, knowledge, wisdom, faith and even humility to learn from his failures (personal and public) can return America to her glory days. And he is the best man left on the battlefield who is able to outwit, outplay and outlast Obama and his campaign machine.”

The action star concludes that he and his wife have “committed the rest of our lives to help Old Glory rise again to her heights of splendor. And that is why we are endorsing and standing with Newt Gingrich, because we believe he can lead all of us who have committed to the same.”

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie dropped by the White House on Wednesday to meet with President Obama about the actress’ humanitarian work.

The power couple was spotted inside the Oval Office, where Jolie discussed with the President her work for preventing mass atrocities and combating sexual violence against women.

Pitt and Jolie arrived in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday for a screening of Jolie’s directorial debut, In The Land of Blood and Honey, at the Holocaust Memorial Museum.

In 2009, Pitt met with Obama to talk about his work rebuilding New Orleans’ 9th Ward in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

With hours until the Iowa Caucus, on Sunday Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney compared President Obama and his promises to Kim Kardashian’s wedding vows.

While stumping in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Romney joked, “I’ve been looking at some video clips on YouTube of President Obama, then candidate Obama, going through making Iowa promises… I think the gap between his promises and his performance is the largest I’ve seen, well, since the Kardashian wedding and the promise of ’til death do we part.”

The crowd of hundreds laughed along with the candidate.

No word yet whether Kardashian finds the joke as funny.

In a wide-ranging interview with iVillage, Michelle Obama let slip a secret President Obama has never publicly revealed.

Our nation’s chief executive is… wait for it… no fan of The Kardashians!

When asked about Malia and Sasha‘s TV viewing habits and restrictions, the First Lady explained that the young girls are not allowed to watch television on weekdays.

And when and what they can watch during the weekends is limited.

According to the First Lady, “Barack really thinks some of the Kardashian [content]… when they watch that stuff… he doesn’t like that as much.”

She, however, feels “if we’re talking about it, and I’m more concerned with how they take it in… what did you learn when you watched that. And if they’re learning the right lessons, like, that was crazy, then I’m like, okay.”

If “crazy” is the yardstick, they’re learning a lot.

“The first family wants to be on ‘Modern Family’!” begins a piece in the National Enquirer.

According to the tab, “White House insiders say that President Obama‘s two daughters – Sasha, 10, and Malia, 13 — are so crazy about the popular ABC sitcom that they’ve begged their mom Michelle to let them guest star.”

The mag notes, “Sasha and Malia really enjoy [the show's young characters] Haley and Alex,” and “they’d really love to do a scene with both girls.”

And it’s not just the First Daughters who are excited, says the Enquirer.

The show’s producer would like Sasha and Malia on the show, and “they’d love to have the first lady on, too!”

In fact, the tab reports that the producer would “find a way to work around the first family’s busy schedule — even if it means going to Washington, D.C.”

Gossip Cop wanted to get a take on just how excited the producers are, and what arrangements have already been made.

Shocker, but a rep for the show never heard anything about the First Daughters possibly appearing on the show, and after a day of checking around… bigger shocker, we’re told the Enquirer‘s story is “not accurate.”

Actually, the only difference between the Enquirer and “Modern Family” is that the ABC show is purposefully funny.

Hank Williams, Jr., who compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler on a morning show, has been fired by ESPN, Gossip Cop has learned.

The sports network yanked Williams’ intro “Are You Ready for Some Football” from its “Monday Night Football” game this week.

Now the move is permanent.

In a statement, ESPN said, “We appreciate his contributions over the past years. The success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue.”

Williams fumbled when he said on Fox News that Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner‘s playing a round of golf together was “like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu.”

He also called Obama and vice president Joe Biden “the enemy.”

Williams later acknowledged his remarks were “dumb,” but that clearly wasn’t enough for ESPN.

Morgan Freeman blasted the Tea Party as “racist” in an interview with Piers Morgan that airs tonight.

The actor, who played a president in Deep Impact, says on “Piers Morgan Tonight” that the Tea Party’s goal “is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term…. What underlines that? ‘Screw the country. We’re going to… do whatever we can to get this black man outta here.”

When the CNN host presses Freeman and asks, “Is that necessarily a racist thing?” rather than a political goal, the Oscar winner says, “It is a racist thing.”

Daryl Hannah was arrested outside the White House today.

The actress and about 100 other protesters were busted for participating in a sit-in to oppose the planned Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would stretch from Montana to the Gulf Coast.

The protesters refused multiple orders by U.S. Park Police to move from the sidewalk.

Hannah’s group wants President Obama to stop the pipeline, which opponents say will be environmentally catastrophic.

“Stop the Keystone pipeline. No to the Keystone pipeline,” Hannah reportedly shouted as she was being handcuffed.

The actress has been busted before for her environmental activism, including a 2009 arrest for protesting mountaintop removal in West Virginia.

More than 500 people have been arrested during the two-week civil disobedience on Pennsylvania Avenue organized in opposition to the oil pipeline.

Justin Bieber made good on President Obama‘s promise to Payton Wall, a 14-year-old who lost her father on 9/11, and explained in a letter to the President how the singer’s music helped her overcome the horrible tragedy.

Six weeks ago, in a piece titled “Obama Makes Another Promise He Won’t Be Able to Keep,” New York Magazine doubted Obama would follow through on his promise to arrange the meeting between the young girl and Bieber.

But the singer followed through.

On Thursday, shortly after Bieber was knocked down outside of Macy’s, he met privately with Wall, her sister Avery, and best friend Madison Roberson, whose dads worked at Cantor Fitzgerald when the Twin Towers were attacked.

“It was so cool. I couldn’t believe it,” Payton told the New York Post of her meeting with Bieber.

Lupe Fiasco might not get an invite to the White House anytime soon.

The outspoken rapper calls President Obama “the biggest terrorist” in America in an interview with CBS News’ “What’s Trending” web series.

Fiasco tells Shira Lazar, “In my fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama in the United States of America.”

Wow.

He continues, “The root cause of the terrorism is the stuff that you as a government allow to happen and the foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists.”

Tom Hanks, Kevin Spacey, Kristin Chenoweth, and Helena Bonham-Carter and Tim Burton were among Hollywood royalty at a banquet Queen Elizabeth hosted for President Obama at Buckingham Palace this evening.

The Queen noted at the beginning, “We have enjoyed … any number of what we call films, and you might call movies,” which she said have “enlarged and invigorated our common language, although I think you will agree we don’t always use it in quite the same way.”

The British monarch also recalled what a “pleasure” it was initially meeting the entire first family back in 2009.

And President Obama sent regards from daughters Malia and Sasha, who he said, ”adored you even before you let them ride in a carriage on the palace grounds.”

William and Kate, who earlier in the day greeted the Obamas, were not at the dinner.

President Obama and Michelle Obama met William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, today at Buckingham Palace.

The Obamas spent approximately 20 minutes chatting with the newlyweds, who have just returned from their honeymoon. The atmosphere was described as “relaxed.”

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip gave the Obamas a tour of the Palace upon their arrival, and the Scots Guards played the American national anthem.

The Queen will host the President and Mrs. Obama at a state banquet on Tuesday night.

The President and the First Lady will spend two nights at Buckingham Palace, staying in the six-room suite last used by William and Catherine on their wedding night.

The Obamas’ visit comes less than a month after the royals wed in front of a worldwide audience.

Justin Bieber is going to make another one of his fan’s dreams come true.

The Biebs just shot down a New York Magazine piece titled “Obama Makes Another Promise He Won’t Be Able to Keep,” in which the mag highly doubts Obama will follow through on his promise to arrange a meeting between a 14-year-old girl who lost her father on 9/11 and Bieber.

The girl, Payton Wall, had written a letter to the White House explaining how Bieber’s music helped her overcome the horrible tragedy.

The teen singer squashed the mag’s story by tweeting, “I think you’re wrong [New York magazine]. pretty sure President @BarackObama will keep this promise.”

Although it’s not known when and where the meeting will occur, we’re confident that Bieber, who sang his heart out in Manila despite being violently ill, will follow through on his word.

In a piece titled, “Michaele Salahi releases single inspired by Oprah,” the Washington Post reports that Salahi has “launched a new career as a pop princess” with the single, “Bump It,” and her “inspiration” for becoming a recording artist is none other than Oprah Winfrey.

The paper then quotes a press release from the former “Real Housewives of DC” star: “Michaele Salahi was inspired to do something with her voice, when she was back stage with Grammy award winner Bebe Winans and television host Oprah Winfrey at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. during the inauguration of President Barack Obama. It was a defining moment backstage when Oprah told Michaele, ‘Wow, you have an amazing voice!’”

Wow, fact-check much, Washington Post?

It’s a lovely, self-serving anecdote… but it’s not true.

Winfrey’s rep tells Gossip Cop, “Oprah briefly met Ms. Salahi backstage at the Kennedy Center after an Oprah Show taping in January 2009.  However, there’s absolutely no truth to the report that they discussed Ms. Salahi’s vocal abilities.”

Like Salahi, this Washington Post story also crashes.

On tonight’s “60 Minutes,” President Obama goes in depth on the successful mission to kill Osama Bin Laden, describing the raid as “the longest 40 minutes of my life.”

In a taped interview with Steve Kroft, Obama discusses the planning and execution of the operation to take out “Geronimo,” as Bin Laden was called, and the decisions that came after it.

What was most difficult about the raid, says the president, was that the Navy seals were ”going in in the darkness of night. And they don’t know what they’re  going to find there. They don’t know if the building is rigged. They don’t know if… there are explosives that are triggered by a particular door opening… My number one concern was, if I send them in, can I get them out?”

Also, despite strong intelligence, the president said he “could not say definitively that Bin Laden was there.”

Obama tells Kroft the mission “was the longest 40 minutes of my life with the possible exception of when Sasha got meningitis when she was three months old and I was waiting for the doctor to tell me that she was all right. It was a very tense situation.”

The president admits he was nervous.

Only after the operation was complete did the president know that they had the right place and got their guy.

“There was a point before folks had left, before we had gotten everybody back on the helicopter and were flying back to base, where they said Geronimo… has been killed. And Geronimo was the code name for Bin Laden.”

Although the president said he won’t release a photo of the al Qaeda leader, he assures Kroft, “You will not see Bin Laden walking on this earth again.”

Obama ended by saying, “As nervous as I was about this whole process, the one thing I didn’t lose sleep over was the possibility of taking Bin Laden out. Justice was done. And I think that anyone who would question that the perpetrator of mass murder on American soil didn’t deserve what he got needs to have their head examined.”

Beyonce is releasing a cover of “God Bless the USA” and donating the proceeds to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.

The song will debut this evening on “Piers Morgan Tonight,” the host just revealed on Twitter.

Morgan says the singer first recorded “God Bless The USA” in 2008 for President Obama‘s campaign, but never released it.

The song will be available on iTunes tomorrow.

Yesterday, Beyonce surprised students at a Harlem school by joining in during their dance class.

New Yorkers cheered, sang the national anthem and sprayed champagne in the wee hours of the morning, following President Obama‘s announcement that U.S. military personnel had killed the terrorist mastermind.

The terrorist responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks, which took the lives of thousands of innocent Americans, was killed in a U.S. operation in Pakistan.

Bin Laden’s body is in the hands of the heroes who carried out the mission.

President Obama delivered the historic news to the nation, noting, “Justice has been done.”

David Letterman accused Donald Trump of racism during last night’s “Late Show,” taking Trump to task for the President Obama birth certificate controversy.

During an interview with guest Dr. Phil, who’s friendly with Trump, Letterman suggested that Trump’s recent implication that Obama only got into Columbia and Harvard because he’s black is when things stopped being funny.

“It’s all fun, it’s all a circus, it’s all a rodeo – until it starts to smack of racism,” said Letterman.

When the host asked Dr. Phil whether he considered Trump a racist, the guest replied quickly, “I do not,” explaining that Trump often just doesn’t think before he speaks.

Letterman didn’t seem so sure.

“If he comes back on this show, and I am not sure we want him back on this show under these circumstances, he ought to be prepared to apologize just for that kind of behavior.”

President Obama just finished speaking with Oprah about the decision to release his birth certificate this morning.

In an interview set to air on May 2, Obama explained that the issue was becoming a distraction as the government attempted to deal with more serious matters, such as the national budget and investment in education.

“The biggest news was this birth certificate thing,” said the President.

“And so at that point I said to my team, look… Even though the Republican Governor of Hawaii, the Democratic Governors of Hawaii, all the various officials had confirmed that I was born here, let’s ask them for a special dispensation where they will go ahead and provide us with the original to see if we can put this to rest.”

Obama continued, “We are living in a very serious time” and “we can’t be distracted by sideshows and, as I said at my press conference, carnival barkers who are going around trying to get attention instead of actually solving the problems.”

The President did offer some levity.

At one point the talk show host asked, “When [the birth issue] first came up, were you thinking, ‘I hope I was born here’?”

“Can I just say… I was there, so I knew – so I knew that I had been born. I remembered it,” replied Obama, as the audience laughed.

President Obama will pay his respects to Oprah on April 27.

The Commander-in-Chief and Michelle Obama are set to tape a farewell interview at Harpo Studios with the talk show queen, whose final show is May 25.

The Obamas will then remain in Chicago for three fundraisers.

The First Family has a long history with fellow Chicagoan Oprah, who campaigned on their behalf in 2008.

Last August, the talk show host was among the guests at a small birthday celebration for President Obama at Graham Elliot, a restaurant in Chicago.

Oprah’s interview with President and Mrs. Obama will air on May 2.
