Peter Jackson has announced casting for The Hobbit.

Martin Freeman is set to play Bilbo Baggins, the story’s hero.

Richard Armitage will take the role of Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the Company of Dwarves.

After numerous setbacks, The Hobbit has been given the green light, with Peter Jackson’s deal as director finalized and production expected to begin in February.

An unresolved labor issue in New Zealand, where the two-part epic had been set to film, is the only remaining hurdle to clear.

Guillermo del Toro has a new project.

The director, who recently dropped out of ‘The Hobbit,’ told a Comic-Con crowd he’s now developing a movie based on Disney’s The Haunted Mansion theme park attraction.

Peter Jackson has “decided to direct two installments of The Hobbit,” according to a report on Deadline.com.
It is NOT yet confirmed, but sources claim Jackson has decided to take on the project and is hammering out a studio deal.
