Paula Deen Slams Lawsuit; Says Former Employee Wanted “Large Sum of Money”

Paula Deen’s attorneys have come out swinging against Lisa Jackson, a former employee who’s suing the celebrity chef and her brother Bubba Hiers.

In court papers filed on Monday, Jackson alleged that Deen hurled a racial slur and that Hiers engaged in “sexually harassing conduct” and created a hostile work environment at Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House, a restaurant the siblings co-own in Savannah.

But now Deen’s lawyers are saying Jackson’s “false allegations” are financially motivated.

Paula Deen is at the center of a new lawsuit that accuses the celebrity cook and her brother of sexual harassment, racial slurs and violence.

In court documents, former Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House general manager Lisa Jackson claims Deen and Bubba Hiers (the chef’s brother) engaged in “the most heinous, abusive and disreputable conduct.”

Jackson, who worked at the Savannah restaurant from 2005 to 2010, alleges that Hiers’ behavior was ”physically threatening and universally humiliating” toward her and other employees.

Anthony Bourdain Calls Out Paula Deen for Profiting Off Diabetes

Paula Deen’s announcement that she was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago – after which she continued to feature unhealthy food on her cooking shows – has sparked a lot of debate today over whether she was obligated to come forward earlier.

Another wrinkle is that Deen is now a paid spokesperson for Novo Nordisk, a pharmaceutical company that specializes in treating diabetes.

On Tuesday, fellow celebrity cook Anthony Bourdain, who’s been critical of Deen in the past, made a not-so-subtle reference to the potential conflict of interests.
