The Croods Tops Olympus Has Fallen and Oz to Take Weekend Box Office

The Croods, an animated family film featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds, debuted atop the box office this weekend with $44.7 million in ticket sales.

That put The Croods comfortably ahead of the second place finisher, White House action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen, starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman, which earned $30.5 million.

Coming in third was Oz the Great and Powerful with $22 million.

Oz the Great and Powerful has won a second straight weekend box office.

The fantasy adventure starring James Franco earned $42.2 million to take the top spot again.

Halle Berry’s 911 operator thriller The Call grabbed second place with $17.1 million, while Steve Carell’s magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone came in third with $10 million.

Oz the Great and Powerful dominated the weekend box office, scoring the third-biggest March domestic opening in history.

The pseudo-prequel to The Wizard of Oz, starring James Franco, earned approximately $80.3 million in its debut, giving the fantasy-adventure a gigantic win over the field.

Last weekend’s champ, Jack the Giant Slayer, slid to the #2 spot with $10 million, while the Jason BatemanMelissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief continued to do solid business with $6.3 million in its fifth week of release.
