Barbara Walters took to the airwaves Monday morning to slam reports claiming she’s in a “bidding war” with Oprah Winfrey for an exclusive interview with Pippa Middleton.

The rumor, which started in the Mirror and was picked up by outlets like the New York Post and The Daily Beast, claims the “rival chat show heavyweights” are “‘pulling out all the stops’ to secure her as a guest for an hour-long special.”

The Mirror goes on to allege Walters “is pushing bosses to offer a six-figure deal for the chat” with Middleton, who is releasing a party-planning book later this year.

On “The View,” Walters said the reports are completely fabricated.

“It’s not true,” the veteran journalist said. “ABC News does not pay for interviews.”

She added, “To make it clear: Would I like to do the interview? Yes. I think she’s a charming, beautiful girl. Will I pay to do the interview? No.”

Oprah Winfrey’s bodyguards were detained on Thursday by the police in Mathura, a town 90 miles south of Delhi, after they got into a fight with local TV journalists.

The talk show host is in India shooting her new show “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”

Police held three members of Oprah’s security detail after they brawled with local TV journalists covering her trip. Some video equipment belonging to the TV crews was destroyed.

Oprah’s local bodyguards were later released after writing a letter of apology to the journalist with whom they scuffled.

The talk show later visited the Taj Mahal, and she is set to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival, which begins on Friday.

Eden Wood, a six-year-old beauty queen on “Toddlers and Tiaras,” has decided to retire.

The pint-sized pageant veteran won 300 times during her short career on the circuit, and will now turn her attention to endeavors including her music and her memoir.

Seriously.

Wood, who aspires to be a “superstar,” was featured on “Good Morning America.”

“I think she’s following in the footsteps of some pretty big people who have done pageants like Oprah Winfrey,” says Wood’s mom Mickie. “As long as she enjoys what we’re doing and what she’s doing, mama’s gonna keep doing it.”

“If it leads to the Miley Cyrus status or the Selena Gomez or whoever, so be it. If it doesn’t, that’s fine, too. Why not see if we can’t have a Hollywood contract? A reality show? A spot on a Disney program? Why not? It’s the American Dream. It’s almost like her destiny.”

Sheesh.

Pippa Middleton may be getting a show on Oprah Winfrey‘s OWN network, according to both In Touch and the National Enquirer.

In Touch reports, “Oprah is making a huge play for Pippa to star in her own reality show for OWN,” while the Enquirer says Winfrey wants the younger Middleton to “host her own [talk] show” on the network.

An Enquirer “source” explains that Winfrey thinks the show would get “great ratings” because Pippa’s “on fire – and Americans are obsessed with the royals.”

Pippa supposedly “doesn’t want to make any big decisions until Kate… [gets] settled into her new life,” claims the source.

Don’t hold your breath.

A spokesperson for the network tells Gossip Cop, “There’s no truth to the rumor that OWN is developing a series with Pippa Middleton.”

Oprah Winfrey taped her third and second to last shows on Tuesday night in front of more than 20,000 fans inside Chicago’s United Center.

The first one-hour show was hosted by Tom Hanks, who told the talk-show queen, “Today you are surrounded by nothing but love,” before noting that “pulling off this surprise [filled show] has been a mission impossible.”

Enter Tom Cruise, who Winfrey said “looked like you were 10 when you on my show in 1988.” Cruise has been a guest one dozen times on the show.

Next up was “America’s Got Talent” phenom Jackie Evancho, who sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and was joined by Josh Groban and then Patti LaBelle.

Not enough?

Madonna walked on stage and told Oprah, “You look surprised,” before adding, “Millions of people are inspired by Oprah. I am one of them… She’s a self-made woman who’s been at the top of her game for over 25 years and she is still kicking ass.”

Dakota Fanning came out next to talk about “‘Oprah Show’ Babies,” the generation who grew up watching the program and learning “that girls can run the world.”

That then segued into Beyonce, dressed in a tuxedo leotard, singing her hit, “Run the World (Girls).”

Diane Sawyer was also on hand to announce that 25,000 oak trees are being planted in honor of Oprah, who joked with the audience, “You get a tree, and you get a tree, and you get a tree. Everybody gets a tree!”

Halle Berry, Queen Latifah, and Katie Holmes came out to talk about viewers — who were in the audience — who’ve helped their communities through various charitable acts.

Holmes and Cruise then introduced Rascal Flatts, who closed out the show with a performance of “I Won’t Let You Go.”

The second taped show on Tuesday, slated to the be next to last aired “Oprah Winfrey Show,” was hosted by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

And the first guest was former Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, who arrived in the Windy City the same year that Oprah did.

Following the basketball great was Jamie Foxx performing “Isn’t She Lovely.” Foxx was joined on piano by Stevie Wonder, who later sang a song he wrote just for Oprah.

Jerry Seinfeld followed Wonder with a standup routine.

After Simon Cowell made a cameo that included him saying, “You are a very good kisser,” Rosie O’Donnell took the stage to sing, “Fever,” with a number of special Oprah-specific lyrics. Joining O’Donnell onstage were Oprah proteges Dr. Phil, Nate Berkus, and Dr. Oz.

And then — just hours after the shocking revelation that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child out of wedlock – Maria Shriver hit the stage with Gayle King and told Oprah, “For more than 30 years, you bestowed the most amazing friendship on me, given me love, support, wisdom and most of all truth.”

Kristin Chenoweth sang a tune from “Wicked,” which was followed up by a poem Maya Angelou wrote and performed specially for Oprah. Alicia Keys then crooned the song, “Superwoman.”

In a rare public appearance, Stedman Graham took the stage to laud his longtime girlfriend. “I’m so proud of you,” he told his “sweetheart.”

Graham then introduced Aretha Franklin, who belted out “Amazing Grace.”

“I’ve never experienced anything like this,” Oprah told the massive audience, adding, “Thank you for taking me to a place that’s beyond joyous.”

But Will Smith told Oprah there was just one more remaining surprise… Usher, who performed a medley of “O.M.G.” and “Oh Happy Day” before confetti exploded across the audience.

The two taped shows will air on May 23 and May 24. Oprah’s last show is May 25.

Time revealed today its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and among the celebrities who made the cut this year were Justin Bieber, Chris Colfer, Colin Firth, Blake Lively, Bruno Mars, Amy Poehler, Mark Wahlberg, Sting, and Oprah Winfrey.

As is the case, usually the “Most Influential” people are written about by those in their field or who know them well.

“Glee” co-star Dianna Agron says in her piece about Chris Colfer that he “lives by extreme truth, speaking out against the epidemic of bullying that he, too, faced in high school. The honesty that he in fuses into his ‘Glee’ character, Kurt, leaves you reeling.”

Usher, writing about his protege Justin Bieber, notes, “From the minute I met Justin, I knew this kid possessed a certain confidence that only a star could have. He was born a star. He knew what he wanted to accomplish; all he had to do was get everyone else to believe it. Now, looking back at his incredible run, the reality of who he is and what he’s accomplished far exceeds anybody’s expectations of him.”

“Uh-O: Rosie and Oprah Have Their Very OWN Rift,” reads the headline of a piece on PopEater.

The site claims “Oprah and Rosie have not been seeing eye to eye” on a number of things involving O’Donnell‘s new show on OWN.

According to a source for the site, “The two are disagreeing over staff… Oprah wants Rosie to use an executive producer that she knows and trusts while Rosie insists she be able to pick her own, fearing whoever Oprah picks will be a spy.”

PopEater’s source adds, “It’s a bad way to start off, considering they haven’t even taped a single show yet.”

However, there is no “rift.”

A spokesperson for the network assures Gossip Cop that the PopEater piece is “totally untrue.” And O’Donnell herself now tweeted, “read I was feuding with o – not true.”

Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson didn’t quite make the cut of the 1,900 people invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding on April 29.

This past week, nearly 2,000 invites were sent out to dignitaries, friends, and relatives, but Gossip Cop can confirm that Ferguson, who was married to William’s uncle, Prince Andrew, was not among the recipients.

Her two daughters, princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, however, are expected at their cousin’s nuptials.

Fergie, a one-time Weight Watchers spokeswoman, is currently working on a documentary to air on Oprah Winfrey‘s OWN.

On Wednesday, the same day Michael Vick suddenly canceled his sit-down appearance on Oprah, the talk show queen nabbed an equally riveting interview.

David Arquette will appear on “Oprah” next Thursday in his first interview since leaving rehab.

The interview was actually taped yesterday, a rep for the show confirms to Gossip Cop.

Arquette, who separated from Courteney Cox in October after 11 years of marriage, checked into rehab over New Year’s weekend to seek treatment for alcohol and depression.

Steve Harvey‘s ex-wife, Mary Harvey, posted three videos this weekend in which she went on the attack, calling her former spouse a habitual cheater, who took their son Wynton and left her with nothing.

In one of the videos (posted below), Mary Harvey claims, “He took my Wynton from me; he turned my son against me; had me evicted; thrown out.”

The former Mrs. Harvey says the comedian, who’s written books on relationships, including “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man,” was a serial cheater who had an affair with Marjorie Bridges while they were still married.

Steve and Mary Harvey divorced in 2005, and then two years later the “Family Feud” host wed Bridges.

Harvey’s attorney, Bobbie Edmonds, calls Mary’s allegations, “False, misleading, derogatory, disparaging, malicious, explicit and slanderous,” and notes that there are court orders prohibiting both parties from “discussing and releasing information [about their divorce] on the Internet and to the media. We are taking the necessary legal steps to rectify this matter to the full extent of the law.”

Mary Harvey says she’s only speaking now because her ex-husband recently sued her, alleging she was “responsible when Oprah did not give him a TV show.”

She also claims she’s being vocal because her name keeps popping up in stories about her famous ex. “To keep seeing my name referenced when talking about his life – that part of it, I don’t understand,” she says.

Generally, we only laugh at ridiculously inaccurate reports, but SNL’s recurring segment about wildly wrong news makes us laugh for all the right reasons.

In the “Weekend Update” bit called “Second-Hand News,” funnyman Bobby Moynihan plays a guy named Anthony Crispino, who delivers what he thinks are scoops, but are really hilariously off-base rumors.

The clip (below) features Crispino’s take on Oprah Winfrey launching the OWN network, John Boehner becoming the new Speaker of the House, and Brett Favre retiring from the NFL.

Hugh Jackman

Less than two weeks ago, Jackman rode a zip-line line down Sydney Harbour in an effort to make a grand entrance when welcoming Oprah Winfrey to Australia, but the stunt when awry and the Wolverine star crashed into a lighting rig, resulting in him needing a couple of stitches under his right eye.

Then yesterday, Jackman was playing cricket in Melbourne with pro player Shane Warne (who was at the center of Elizabeth Hurley‘s split from husband Arun Nayar) when the Aussie actor took a speeding cricket ball to his, er, Down Unders.

Fortunately, Jackman had a protective cup covering his groin, and was able to walk off the ball to ball collision.

Oprah Winfrey is now relaxing in picturesque Fiji, following a frenzied week with fans in Australia.

After Winfrey and her audience visited some of Australia’s major attractions, including the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef – and taped shows at Sydney’s famed Opera House, the talk show host is spending this week (and Christmas) on the South Pacific island nation with longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham.

“Fiji is one of those destinations where we like people to come and have their own private time, and we’re here to ensure that happens,” said Fiji’s tourism minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, without an ounce of irony. Sayed-Khaiyum, who confirmed Winfrey’s stay by acknowledging, “We know she is here for a holiday and respect that,” added, ”We don’t want Fiji to become a playground for the paparazzi.”

While their was criticism about the Australian government picking up the $5 million tab for Winfrey’s work trip, the talk show queen countered that the publicity for the country was well worth it.

She told reporters: “It is immeasurable what four hours of a love festival about your country broadcast in 145 countries around the world can do.”

Among Winfrey’s guests on the shows from Down Under were Jon Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Bono, Russell Crowe, and Hugh Jackman, who was injured during a grand entrance onstage.

Oprah Winfrey will star in Ruined, a movie based on the play of the same name about a brothel in war-torn Congo.

Winfrey will also serve as executive producer for the project, which is to be adapted by playwright Lynn Nottage.

Ruined concerns Mama Nadi, who runs a house of ill repute in Congo and tries to protect her employees from conflict between the government and rebel armies.

The announcement follows the October news that Winfrey plans to star with Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep in a comedy from Sex and the City director Michael Patrick King.

On the heels of yesterday’s rumor that Lindsay Lohan might go “Dancing With the Stars” comes a doozy – that Lohan is in talks with Oprah Winfrey‘s new OWN network for a reality show.

“Lindsay Lohan has a new mother figure and role model: Oprah!” claims In Touch.

The tab’s “insider” explains that Lohan is “turning to Oprah and the idea of a reality show to rescue her career.”

In fact, alleges a so-called “friend,” Lohan “has been in contact with people from Oprah’s network” and “would love to start filming as soon as she’s released from rehab in January.”

Hmm.

That’s funny, because an OWN spokesperson flatly tells Gossip Cop there’s “no truth to that rumor” and no one’s spoken to Lohan about a show.

While the New Year won’t bring Lohan to Oprah’s network, we’re sure 2011 will be chock full of lame rumors from In Touch.

Nate Berkus has been taken to the hospital with appendicitis. It’s expected that he’ll undergo surgery shortly.

The talk host felt ill this morning but still made an appearance on “The Today Show.” Afterward, he was hospitalized.

An Oprah Winfrey protege who debuted “The Nate Berkus Show” in September, Berkus will be forced to postpone tapings.

It’s expected that he’ll be back in several days.

People.com was the first outlet to report his hospitalization.

According to the New York Post, Oprah Winfrey quietly went house hunting in Alpine, New Jersey, where she toured a very special 30,300-square-foot English-style mansion, complete with manicured gardens, a ballroom, library, movie theater, tennis court, pool and wine cellar.

The paper reports, “Workers and others on the grounds were asked to make themselves scarce while Oprah checked out the five-story, 19-bedroom and 12-bathroom spread.”

The price tag for the fancy digs?

$68 million.

(You read that right.)

“Her people requested that everyone leave the house so it would be empty when she walked through,” notes a so-called “source” for the Post.

So, is the talk show queen going to buy this New Jersey palace?

Uh… no.

Winfrey took to Twitter to bust this herself. She wrote, “No truth to me looking for a house in Jersey. No idea who started that rumor. Been in Chicago all week working.”

“I think no one understands what a good father he was,” Paris Jackson says on the much-anticipatied Jackson Family interview with Oprah Winfrey, airing today.

Winfrey sat down not long ago with Michael Jackson‘s parents and kids, and they all opened up about the legendary star – from him being a dad and son to his addiction to plastic surgery and desire for privacy.

A year and a half after Michael Jackson’s passing, the kids fondly remember the King of Pop, who was just their pop.

In the riveting interview, Paris recalls Jackson being the “best cook ever,” while the singer’s son Prince happily thinks back on the early morning walks he’d take with his father on the beach, while sipping Coca-Cola and eating candy.

It all changed, however, on that fateful day in June 2009.

Katherine Jackson tells Winfrey how she first received news of her son’s death. The Jackson matriarch recalls being told to come to the hospital because her son was “sick” when, in fact, he had already passed.

She says Dr. Conrad Murray was so evasive that she had to cut him off and ask, “Well, what happened? How is he? Did he make it?” to which Dr. Murray finally replied, “No, he’s gone.”

Jackson admits she knew her son was addicted to plastic surgery. She tells Winfrey that Michael’s nose looked “like a toothpick at one time.”

Initially, Joe Jackson denies to Winfrey that he beat his son, but with some prodding from his wife – and Winfrey – the family patriach admits he used to hit his son with a strap. He tells Winfrey, in a shocking moment, he “[does] not regret” beating Michael Jackson.

Oprah Winfrey‘s new network, OWN, unveiled three new original series and its premiere weekend lineup today.

To kick off the network airing on January 1, it was announced Winfrey will first give an hour-long introduction to OWN, followed by a preview of the channel’s shows.

“The audience will see a little of everything OWN has to offer,” says Christina Norman, the network’s CEO.

In addition to fare from regulars like Dr. Oz and Suze Orman, OWN’s three new shows are “The Judds,” which tracks the lives of country stars Naomi and Wynonna Judd as the mother-daughter singing duo prepare for their first tour together in a decade; “Carson-Nation,” which follows fashion and design guru Carson Kressley as he travels to small towns to give people makeovers; and “Ryan and Tatum: The O’Neals,” which covers father and daughter Ryan and Tatum O’Neal as they attempt to repair their relationship after 25 years of being estranged.

Also that first weekend, Jay Z and Diane Sawyer will be featured on “Oprah Presents: Master Class,” a show in which Winfrey interviews celebs, who share their inspiring personal stories.

“Star Jones is furious with Oprah Winfrey for giving Rosie O’Donnell a show on her new network – but not her!” begins a piece in the National Enquirer.

According to one of the tab’s so-called insiders, “Star could not believe Oprah has signed Rosie to be on her new network, but hasn’t called to discuss any ideas with her!”

That same alleged insider claims that Jones is “shocked” and “angry” that she hasn’t heard from Winfrey since the talk show queen’s new station, OWN, “will have 24/7 programming and plenty of room for Star to do her thing.”

How’s this for a cast?

Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey are set to star together in an untitled comedy about a home shopping network.

It will be written and directed by Michael Patrick King, who made the Sex and the City movies.

The story follows the characters as they navigate media, business and personal relationships.

There is no official production timetable yet.

It will be Winfrey’s first live action feature role since 1998′s Beloved.

Tiny Virginia Makopo, the former dorm head of Oprah Winfrey‘s Leadership School for Girls in Johannesburg, South Africa, has been acquitted of child abuse charges.

Makopo was charged with trying to kiss and fondle female students at the multimillion dollar school built by Winfrey in 2007.

The talk show queen, who initially called the allegations “crushing,” having herself been a victim of childhood sexual abuse, said she was “profoundly disappointed” by the trial’s outcome.

Still, Winfrey emphasized, “I will forever be proud of the nine girls who testified with the courage and conviction to be heard.”

Mthunzi Mhaga, a spokesman for South Africa’s Prosecuting Authority, said the state didn’t prove its case “beyond reasonable doubt,” adding, “we won’t be appealing the judgment.”

Oprah Winfrey‘s interview of Oksana Grigorieva apparently has fallen though.

Last week, the talk show queen snagged the highly sought sit-down with Mel Gibson‘s estranged ex, but it has reportedly been “postponed indefinitely,” according to what a source close to Grigorieva tells CNN.

Early rumblings claimed that Judge Scott Gordon issued a gag order forbidding Grigorieva from doing the interview given the ongoing legal proceedings between her and Gibson.

According to TMZ, however, Grigorieva canceled the chat due to internal fighting and opposition among her lawyers, not because of Judge Gordon.

At this hour, Oprah’s camp has not indicated whether the interview’s status has changed.

Oprah Winfrey will announce Jonathan Franzen‘s new novel “Freedom” as her latest book club selection on Friday, nine years after the author and talk show host feuded over his book “The Corrections.”

“Freedom” has been hailed by critics and landed Franzen on a recent cover of Time magazine.

In 2001, however, the author famously expressed discomfort with Winfrey’s endorsement of “The Corrections,” leading her to cancel his appearance on her program.

Franzen’s rejection of Oprah’s extraordinarily influential support made waves in the publishing and television worlds.

The author has said publicly that he’d now accept a book club sticker, and booksellers report that Oprah-endorsed copies of the novel are already in hand.

Oprah Winfrey opened her talk show’s final season with a bang, surprising her studio audience with a free, eight-day trip to Australia.

But it turns out the host isn’t picking up the tab.

What?

Instead, Australians will be footing the $2.8 million bill.

Huh?

The country’s tourism minister, Martin Ferguson, announced on Tuesday that the federal and state New South Wales governments will be financing the excursion.

“Oprah is a household name and her star power has the potential to lift Australia’s profile as a premier tourist destination,” explained Ferguson.

Said former tourism minister John Brown, “The publicity that Oprah will bring to Australia around the world is something you couldn’t buy.”

Winfrey and 300 audience members will spend eight days and seven nights Down Under, with the show taping at least two episodes. “Oprah” has never been filmed before a U.S. studio audience outside of North America.

Tomorrow kicks off the 25th and final season of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” and the queen of talk will be making a grand entrance on the show’s premiere.

But she won’t be alone.

Joining Oprah on the stage will be her good friend John Travolta – and the two will be dancing hand-in-hand to “Love Train” by the O’Jays.

Other than Travolta, Oprah has been mum about other surprises on the show’s season opener.

A queen and a knight will receive Kennedy Center Honors this year.

Daytime television empress Oprah Winfrey and Sir Paul McCartney lead the list of cultural figures announced on Tuesday as recipients of Kennedy Center Honors.

Musician Merle Haggard, choreographer Bill T. Jones, and composer Jerry Herman will also be feted.

“For more than 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has established one of the most innovative careers in the entertainment world, with distinctive accomplishments in television and film,” said Center chairman David M. Rubenstein.

He called McCartney “one of the most influential and successful songwriters and musicians of all time.”

McCartney accepted an invitation to receive an honor in 2002 but withdrew due to family obligations.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will award the five honorees with medallions in a private State Department dinner on December 4. There will be a gala and performance at the Kennedy Center itself on December 5, to be broadcast on CBS on December 28.

Rosie O’Donnell is back, and she’s teaming up with former rival Oprah Winfrey.

The outspoken former host of “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and co-host of “The View” will make her return to daytime television exclusively on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, it was announced on Thursday.

O’Donnell’s new one-hour daily show will be based in New York and is scheduled to premiere in 2011.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to work with Oprah Winfrey on her network,” said O’Donnell.

“I’m excited to be back on daytime television.”

“Rosie is an undeniable talent who has captivated TV audiences for nearly 20 years,” said Winfrey. “She’s a true original, who brings her authentic voice, dynamic energy and pure passion to every she does.”
