The New York Daily News hears from “sources” that Will Smith is causing production problems for wife Jada Pinkett Smith‘s medical series, “HawthoRNe.”

According to the paper’s “well-connected insider,” a recent, unplanned eight-day hiatus was ordered by the show’s network, TNT, to “sort out all of the production’s complications,” which executives supposedly blame on Will Smith “because he isn’t cooperating with the rest of the team.”

“He is not currently shooting a movie,” says the so-called “snitch,” “So he’s been a constant on the set in recent weeks.”

Reportedly, husband Smith’s frequent requests for script revisions and offers of other input “pushed back the production schedule tremendously,” causing everything to “spiral out of control.”

Gossip Cop isn’t sure what this “insider” is seeing on set, but perhaps a visit to the (real) eye doctor is in order.

The real reason for the hiatus, we’re told, was a serious illness of a Smith family member, something one of the Daily News‘ own sources says.

And a rep for the actor and producer assures Gossip Cop the loose talk pinning the break on any kind of behind-the-scenes drama is “definitely not true.”

“Actress Lindsay Lohan was reportedly not invited to Jill Stuart’s Fashion Week show because she was considered a ‘brand damager,’” claims the New York Daily News.

According to a Daily News source, “A lot of designers, and especially Jill’s camp, don’t think she’s worth all the press she’d get their show.”

Well, not only did Stuart deny the ban to the Daily News, but the story is also way off base when it further declares Lohan’s “absence from NYC is a little personal, too: Her ex-girlfriend, deejay Samantha Ronson, and Sam’s twin sis, designer Charlotte, practically run Fashion Week.”

Uh, Lohan’s absence in New York has nothing to do with any ban… or even with Fashion Week.

Lohan was in London at a Haiti relief benefit called, “iRock4Haiti,” held at Altitude 360 London.

The actress even said, “I’d rather be raising money for those that need it in Haiti” than attend Fashion Week.

Like the saying goes: “No good deed goes unpunished.”

The New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” crashed again in a piece that said on Lindsay Lohan’s “to-do list is Gucci model Adam Senn.”

According to a Daily News “source,” Lohan and Senn “really hit it off” when the actress was last in New York.

That same “source” claims, “He’s genuinely interested in her, and it seems pretty mutual,” adding “Adam even said he was looking forward to when she got back from India,” where she’s working on a BBC documentary on poverty in that country.

The item goes on to then detail how she’s “recently canoodled with the likes of Jason Segel, Kevin Connolly, and a very married Cash Warren.”

Here’s what’s wrong, paragraph by paragraph:

1. Senn is not on Lohan’s “to-do” list. And we know this because she told Gossip Cop from India, “it’s a story from over three years ago.”

2. They didn’t hit it off the last time she was in New York, because she didn’t see him – she spent the vast majority of her time at her mom’s place.

3. Senn may be looking forward to seeing her, but Lohan is not interested in him.

4. Though the article said she “canoodled” with Jason Segel, Kevin Connolly, and Cash Warren, the reality is she didn’t hook up with ANY of them.

Lohan told Gossip Cop the article is “lame BS.”

The New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” column has crashed again with its piece, “Rihanna finds romance with ’90210′ star Tristan Wilds.”

The column reports, “Spies tell us that the singer is dating actor Tristan Wilds. The ‘90210’ star was an unexpected guest at a party RiRi held over the weekend at her L.A. home, where she was saying goodbye to pals before taking off for a set of London gigs.”

Wait, if she’s dating Wilds, why would he be “an unexpected guest?”

Logic be damned, Gatecrasher goes on to say that, according to a guest, everyone at the party “quickly realized they weren’t meeting for the first time, because they were openly affectionate for everyone to see.”

Oh, it’s on because it was obvious that “they weren’t meeting for the first time?”

Anyway, the column adds that its source says Rihanna and Wilds “were introduced by a music producer who has worked with both of them,” and that “They hit it off the moment they laid eyes on each other.” That same “guest” says, “From the moment he walked into her party, Rihanna lit up.”

Maybe – and we’re just going to throw this out there – Rihanna was happy to see Wilds because… they’re friends?

But rather than basing a romance tale on someone’s observation of how Rihanna reacted when an “unexpected guest” showed up to her party, Gossip Cop actually contacted two people who are close to her. Both said it wasn’t true. One of them emphatically stated, “definitely not.”

Not “unexpected.”

The boobs at the family-friendly New York Daily News published a photo online today of Lady Gaga in which her right breast is clearly exposed.

The article in the Gatecrasher column that accompanied the photo had something to do with Lady Gaga not needing Kanye West to sell tickets, and how her solo “Monster Ball’ tour is doing well. Or something like that. Frankly, most of our attention was diverted by the titillating error the paper made posting this picture. So much so that we didn’t even notice — until a reader pointed it out — that the Daily News also misspelled Kanye’s name wrong in its headline, “Lady Gaga doesn’t need Kayne to pack the house.”

We’re sure the Daily News regrets its mistake — and has picked up a slew of male readers.

“David and Victoria Beckham spend over $2,000 on designer ‘teacup’ pigs,” reported the New York Daily News. And Perez Hilton claimed, “Victoria Beckham has splurged on TWO of the latest celebrity must-have accessory – the micro-pig… they are a Christmas present for husband David Beckham.”

Wait, so did the couple go hog wild together on the pig purchase, as reported by the New York Daily News, or is “Cop Blocker” Hilton correct that Posh picked up the pricey porkers herself as a gift for Becks?

Yes, Gossip Cop decided to investigate Pig-Gate – and get the trough, the whole trough, and nothing but the trough.

Sorry to sling mud, but neither the Daily News nor Hilton are right. A source close to the Beckhams tells Gossip Cop the hogs “were a gift from Victoria’s mom.”

Gossip Cop’s repeated calls to the pigs for a statement were not returned. (Just kidding.)

“’Twilight’ duo, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, stay apart to squash romance rumors,” was the headline of a piece in the New York Daily News’ Gatecrasher column.

The article then went on to say, that in order to quiet talk of them being a couple, Pattinson and Stewart “are keeping a safe distance while promoting their ‘Twilight’ sequel, ‘New Moon.’”

The paper even has an alleged “insider” say, “They’ve requested to do press separately for the movie… to avoid being seen together. Any time they’re photographed in the same place, the rumor mill just starts all over again.”

Picking up on that story, Perez “too-busy-blocking-Gossip-Cop-on-Twitter-to-fact-check” Hilton writes Pattinson and Stewart “won’t be in the same city again until they come to the Big Apple for back-to-back appearances on the ‘Today Show’ on Nov. 18.”

A couple of things: One, neither Hilton nor anyone else would know about the “Today Show” bookings had it not been for Gossip Cop.

Two, is he freakin’ serious?! “They won’t be in the same city again until… November 18”? Uh, the premiere in Los Angeles is on November 16 — two days before — and they’re BOTH going.

But why stop there?

The Gatecrasher column and “Cop Blocker” Hilton must have simply forgotten that Pattinson and Stewart will be together on November 6 when they tape “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

And that’s right, they’ll also be together in Paris for a promotional appearance on November 10.

And oh yeah, the following day they’ll be together for an event in London.

So other than those three dates…

No wait, Pattinson and Stewart will be together on November 12 in Madrid.

Nor should you forget about their event together in Munich on November 14.

Just to recap then… so unless you count their appearances together in Los Angeles, Paris, London, Madrid, Munich and then again in Los Angles – that’s correct, they “They won’t be in the same city again until… November 18.”

Maybe Gatecrasher and “Cop Blocker” should consider a profession where accuracy isn’t so important.

Is Shia LaBeouf checking out other women right in front of reported new girlfriend Carey Mulligan?

The New York Daily News claims the Transformers star did just that last Thursday on the set of Wall Street 2, in which he co-stars with Mulligan.

“Shia LaBeouf has a wandering eye,” the paper says, “even when his girlfriend is around.”

Wow, really?

A witness tells the paper, “Shia was blatantly ogling a pretty brunette, and his girlfriend was standing right next to him! What a dog!”

Right next to him? On Thursday?

That’s funny, because Mulligan wasn’t on the set of Wall Street 2 on Thursday. She wasn’t even in New York on Thursday. Mulligan’s rep confirms to Gossip Cop that she was in Los Angeles that day for the premiere of her film, An Education, where we saw plenty of photos of her on the red carpet.

We’re not sure what the Daily News‘ “witness” saw back in New York, but he or she may want to consult an optometrist.

There’s been a bad habit recently of reporting Hollywood casting possibilities as though they’re done deals. Today a number of outlets announced that Robert Downey, Jr. had landed the lead in Steven Spielberg‘s remake of the 1950 Jimmy Stewart classic “Harvey.”

Perez Hilton declared Downey “has snagged” the role of Elwood P. Dowd, a gentle but daft man whose best friend is a tall, invisible rabbit, citing a New York Daily News story that had Downey “rumored” for the part. The Los Angeles Times, meanwhile, allowed that “the official announcement may be a week or two away,” but said Downey “is poised to go down the rabbit hole.”

So what’s the real story?

Well, Gossip Cop contacted a source close to the actor, who told us there is no done deal, and that any “Harvey” discussions with Downey are “just chit chat so far.”

So while Downey has expressed admiration for Stewart and might be in the mix to take up one of the legend’s most famous roles, any talk of him “snagging” it is premature.

The New York Daily News has tried to pit Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Denise Richards against his current wife Brooke Mueller. In an item today in the paper’s “Gatecrasher” column, it’s reported that Mueller “threw a fit” at an Emmy Awards gifting suite “when she was denied her request of a diamond-and-gold Hershey’s Kiss necklace – and offered silver instead.”

According to the paper, Mueller reportedly said, “I know Denise Richards was here earlier, and she has a diamond necklace.” After being told that it was true, says the paper, “Mueller sniped: ‘She’s going down!’”

How dramatic – and fictional.

Yes, it’s true that both women went to the same gifting suite. In fact, Mueller and Richards, who now have an amicable relationship, ran into each other and exchanged hugs and kisses. A woman who was there at the time told Gossip Cop that Mueller even complimented Richards: “I love your boots.”

That same onlooker says Mueller was told by the jewelry people that they didn’t have anymore diamond necklaces to give away then, but an employee offered, “We’d love to send you one.”

But what about Mueller “throwing “a fit?” The eyewitness tells Gossip Cop there was “no yelling” or any type of phrase uttered like “She’s going down!”

The New York Daily News breathlessly reported this morning, “There’s a new power couple in the making,” and claimed its Amanda Bynes and “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper Kid Cudi.

According to the Daily News’ “insiders,” Cudi was “bragging about his ‘new girlfriend,’ Amanda Bynes at the Jane Hotel” in New York last week. Despite a denial, a number of blogs still repeated the romance rumor.

Well, Gossip Cop can assure you that these stories are absolutely not true. Bynes’s spokeswoman confirms to Gossip Cop, “They’re friends. They’re not dating.”

Boy did the New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” column crash and burn on a story about Kirsten Dunst, well, crashing.

According to the paper, “Kirsten Dunst crashed a luncheon at NYC’s Oak Room [last week] because she wanted to score a job.” It goes on to claim that during a lunch in honor of director Jane Campion, “Dunst barged in because she wants a role in the director’s upcoming ‘Runaway.’”

Other equally unreliable reports picked up the story and added, for instance, that Dunst did “an impromptu audition.”

All of it is not true.

As a matter of fact, Campion has been interested in meeting with Dunst for some time to discuss a role, but their schedules never worked out. And it just happened that both of them were in New York that day so Campion asked Dunst “if she wouldn’t mind meeting her at the Plaza,” her rep told Gossip Cop.

Repeat: Campion asked Dunst to meet her at the Plaza. The “Spider-Man” star did not crash the luncheon.

Nor was there any audition of any kind by Dunst.

What a week it was for Gossip Cop!

Gossip Cop really busted Star magazine with its story that “Grey’s Anatomy” lead Ellen Pompeo’s husband, Chris Ivery, cheated on her – during her pregnancy – with a teen.  A lot of outlets picked up that story, but Gossip Cop exclusively obtained an email from the teen that read, “I talked to Star Magazine and they were trying to offer me $20,000 for information about Chris. That is ridiculous because nothing is true about us having a relationship.” We confronted Star about the pay-to-say, but not surprisingly no one got back to us.

That same rag got it all wrong when claiming that Natalie Portman just moved to L.A. to be closer to Sean Penn, who’s going through a divorce. Besides the fact that he’s been linked to another woman, Portman moved to the West Coast a year ago.

Despite numerous outlets reporting that Penelope Cruz was pregnant, Gossip Cop led the charge and finally busted that bad dish.  We have it upon good authority that she is “100 percent NOT” pregnant. Plus, we saw some photos of her recently smoking. Still that didn’t stop Perez Hilton. He wrote that despite Cruz’s own “claims” that she’s not pregnant, he believes that she is – and he called her a “liar.” Whoa!

In more pregnant news, the National Enquirer ran a piece that said Mel Gibson was concerned that his pregnant girlfriend wasn’t eating enough. Not true, said his publicist, who recently had dinner with the couple and noted how “healthy” she looked. The Enquirer also waited a good 30 seconds after “The Office” star John Krasinski and Emily Blunt got engaged to say they were fighting over wedding plans. But a rep for Krasinski told Gossip Cop: “There is nothing factually accurate to the story in the National Enquirer except that John and Emily are engaged.”

Then we smelled a rat with a Brad Pitt gerbil story. The British tab The Sun claimed he bought his kids an approximately $83,000 gerbil run, complete with mazes, tunnels and seesaws. That story was full of gerbil pellets.

This week John Mayer was the subject of two wrong romance stories. When Janet Charlton’s Hollywood reported that “The Hills” (and Kristin Cavallari) were alive with the sound of Mayer’s music, we were the first on the scene to say there was “No Such Thing” going on between the two. (Of course, that didn’t stop journalism’s joker Perez Hilton from repeating the fabricated tale). And the other inaccurate love story involving Mayer was an In Touch cover piece on Jessica Simpson that claimed she was secretly hooking up with him again. Yeah, also not true.

In other love news, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were once again the subject of nasty nuptial rumors, but Gossip Cop spoke to sources close to them and found out it was just the same naysayers singing the same old (off-key) tune. The couple is still making beautiful music.

And it seemed like yesterday the blogs were saying Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron were engaged. Well, the rumor this week was that they are headed for splitsville. Gossip Cop investigated and didn’t find proof to support this sophomoric “High School Musical” tale.

The British Star magazine was trippin’ when it printed a story that Rihanna and Chris Brown, who are legally barred from being near each other, are now planning a trip together to Mexico – meaning they would be outside of U.S. jurisdiction.  The only distance to be noted here is that this story is far from true.

With “Sex and the City” filming in New York this week, there were many a rumor Cop had to handle.  For starters, in the course of just a couple of days, a New York paper said Kim Cattrall was still with her much younger chef boyfriend (uh, they broke up months ago), and that she’s now an American – nope, Cattrall is still a Canadian citizen. Then, rather oddly, the tabs came to Gossip Cop to verify a rumor that Chris Noth (aka “Mr. Big”) was engaged in real-life. We contacted Noth, who texted us back, “Not true.” And, Gossip Cop had amazing footage of thousands of fans peacefully surrounding Sarah Jessica Parker as she moved from one area of shooting to another. Totally worth a look.

The dynamic duo of Perez Hilton and In Touch lost all touch with reality when they claimed that Rosie O’Donnell and Star Jones were going to team up for a reality show. Gossip Cop debunked that quickly. And on the subject of reality TV, after ignoring John and Kate Gosselin all summer we posted a piece and asked you all what you felt about them. Incredibly, the vast majority of you expressed the same sentiment as Gossip Cop – who cares about the two of them? (Barring something unbelievable, don’t expect to see their names in Gossip Cop after this.)

This week the New York Post wrote that Lindsay Lohan was staying under the radar in Austin, Texas, where’s she’s slated to film the movie, “Machete.” Sadly, the New York newspaper somehow missed that Lohan was in New York. We even showed footage of the paparazzi staking her out while shopping in Manhattan – just about the same time that the erroneous “Austin” item was being written. Not to be outdone, New York’s other tab, The New York Daily News did a piece insinuating that Kate Hudson is engaged to Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez. That paper also struck out. They are not engaged.

Across the pond, the Daily Mail said that Uma Thurman was going to walk down the aisle in Kensington Palace, where Princess Diana had lived, but Gossip Cop proved that that, too, was a royal lie.

“Twilight” Highlights: Gossip Cop started the week off nicely, having taken a bite out of Now magazine, which published fabricated Robert Pattinson quotes, but then removed them from its website after Gossip Cop called them out on it. Later we posted a video of the paparazzi hounding Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The footage showed the two being pursued as they got into a taxi in Vancouver, and then Stewart literally fleeing from the cab and sprinting into their hotel. We debated long and hard whether to show the footage (shot by a third party), and ultimately we felt that writing about it might lead people to think that, like our competitors, we were making it up or were exaggerating the details. But by presenting it, we believed, everyone could accurately assess (even eyewitness) for themselves the harassment that the two “Twilight” stars unfortunately have to endure.

Then there was that OK! cover that was not OK. It blared, “Rob Risks It All For Kristen,” and cautioned, “How his engagement to Kristen is putting Rob’s career and the future of Twilight in jeopardy.” Engagement? Not true. There was so much more, including how the filmmakers were concerned that Pattinson and Stewart hanging out together would affect how people felt about the “New Moon” plot in which her character falls for Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. One, the story is nonsense, and two, nice job insulting “Twilight” fans and implying they can’t separate fact from fiction. Speaking of fiction, there were some other doozies this week, including Pattinson and Stewart sneaking off to an island off of Canada’s coast for a weekend getaway. Stewart, by all accounts, was in Vancouver that weekend. That story was more like Fantasy Island. And we ended the week with the new, expanded, non-bootlegged HD version of the “New Moon” trailer. (Oh, and then there was that thing about Robert Pattinson using steroids. No, really.)

There was so much more this week, like our correcting that Casey Wilson was dumped from “Saturday Night Live” because of her weight; Megan Fox being taunted by a cursing paparazzo; the Michael Jackson tribute concert being postponed and moved to London; and the surprising news that Ellen DeGeneres was tapped to be the fourth judge on “American Idol.”

And yes, for 30 glorious minutes on Friday it seemed like karma had caught up with Perez Hillton, whom Gossip Cop wrote about for The Huffington Post. For half an hour, PerezHilton.com was temporarily down, and so inaccurate reporting and snide comments were briefly suspended. Many rejoicing readers and Twitterers wrote Gossip Cop wishing that it would be permanent. All we can say is spread the word about Gossip Cop to ALL of your friends, and maybe one day that dream will come true.

The New York Daily News has struck out again. This time the paper whiffed on a story insinuating that Kate Hudson and Yankees star Alex Rodriguez may be engaged. The item read, “Kate Hudson was sporting a very interesting new accessory at Monday night’s Yankees game: a sparkly diamond band on her left ring finger. Our spy caught the bubbly blond proudly sporting the ring while typing away on her Blackberry when her slugger wasn’t up. Either A-Rod is making it official, or Ms. Hudson made some very careless jewelry choices!”

Uh, the only error here is on the part of the Daily News. According to the piece, “Neither a rep for Hudson nor Rodriguez returned calls for comment.”

That’s interesting, because not only did A-Rod’s spokesman tell Gossip Cop that, after speaking to his client, the story is “absolutely not true,” but also that he told the paper the same thing – and they still went to bat with this.

The New York Daily News’ Gatecrasher column once again crashed, this time in a piece on the “Battle of the Divas,” Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.

The News devoted four paragraphs to reporting that Carey is releasing her upcoming album “Memories of an Imperfect Angel” on “Sept. 29, missing the Grammy cutoff date by just one day.” Why a day late? According to the News’ source, “Mariah’s been shafted so many times before that it’s like a big ‘Kiss my butt’ to the Grammy folks.”

Nice revenge tale . . . but the eligibility date for the Grammys was pushed up a month this year to August 31, and Carey, though an imperfect angel, wanted to work a little more to make her album a little closer to perfect.

The paper goes on to say that Whitney Houston’s album is “now set to hit shelves on Sept. 1.”

Close, but no cigar. That date is wrong, too. Houston’s release is on August 31, so that it can be in Grammy contention.

The piece also stated that Houston’s first single, ‘I Look to You,’ “received a lukewarm reception on pop radio.” Oops, the song was serviced to urban radio, and landed in the Top 10 airplay list.

What’s crazy is that it probably took Gossip Cop more time to write this piece than the News took to fact-check it.

Gossip Cop has some major bad dish to bust — the day’s big story that Jennie Garth spilled the beans about Robert Pattinson dating either Kristen Stewart or Nikki Reed, his “Twilight” co-stars. Either way — it’s still way wrong.

The other blogs, including Perez Hilton, who don’t fact-check, have been buzzing all day about a quote Garth supposedly gave concerning Pattinson to the New York Daily News: “I can’t say [if it’s Stewart or Reed], because that would be breaking my promise to [her husband, “Twilight” star Peter Facinelli], but he is dating one of them!”

So what’s the problem? Garth never actually said that. Gossip Cop knows because we obtained a transcript. The only thing she said was, “That will be breaking my promise to my husband, but I do know.”

Garth’s rep also confirmed that she didn’t leak the highly guarded details about Pattinson’s love life.

It takes something special to stand out among the ‘rush to judgment’ gossip pack, and yesterday’s “Gatecrasher” column in the New York Daily News managed to do just that. On the same page the paper repeated the rumors – all since disproved – that:

- Kanye West had crowned himself the “new King of Pop”

- Mel Gibson attacked a would-be paparazzo at a club opening

- Kayleen McAdams was the mother of Jude Law‘s next child

While the original reporting came from outside sources, “Gatecrasher” is guilty of pushing each story without checking into its accuracy.

Three consecutive items, three whiffs. The New York Daily News strikes out as Gossip Cop’s “Dupes of the Week.”

The New York Daily’s News’ “Gatecrasher” column sort of crashed and burned on a recent piece about Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel hitting the skids.

The opening line of an item read: “There’s trouble in paradise for Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel,” and even claimed that pals say the couple is “having problems.” The account then describes all the fun Timberlake has recently had without her and quotes an unnamed source as saying “All his friends think she’s really annoying.”

Probably not as annoying as writing a break-up story only to have the couple photographed a couple of days later picking up lots of groceries from a Whole Foods in California. Whoops.

John Mayer’s funny tweet about a possibly made up incident with Pink left news outlets red-faced. Mayer, who was mocking Perez Hilton’s tweeting about his scuffle with Will.I.Am’s posse, parodied the blogger when he posted:

Then he mocked how Hilton’s “video statement [was] so long that by the end of it his cut healed.”

And while it was clearly a joke, Fametastic took it in earnest, seriously reporting:

Even more ridiculous? A slew of other sites and papers, including the New York Daily News, followed suit with a piece titled, “John Mayer not tickled Pink.”

GossipCop’s take?
