“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” opens tonight (have you heard?), and in light of Robert Pattinson being “confronted” (in good fun) on “The Today Show” this morning with a series of crazy rumors, Gossip Cop decided to compile a little trip down memory lane with our Top 20 Wrong “Twilight” Rumors from the last few speculation-saturated months.

There were, of course, the endless (endless, endless) Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart romance rumors, the problems with obnoxious paparazzi, issues with fake photos, crazy casting rumors involving “Harry Potter,” then ridiculous romance rumors involving “Harry Potter,” fake “Twilight”-bashing Tweets from Lauren Bacall (no, really), and more.

But here are the 20 that together helped to define the “Twilight” Tabloid Experience between the summer and tonight’s theatrical release. They’re fun, they’re wild, they’re crazy… and they’re wrong.

“Thanksgiving in Courteney Cox’s house is certain to go off with a bang this year,” reports the Aussie mag NW.

According to the Down Under weekly, Cox is hosting Thanksgiving “and guess who’s on her guest list?”

Give up?

“Her BFF Jenifer Aniston and Jen’s ex-husband Brad Pitt!” exclaims the tab.

But will he show?

NW has a so-called source who says, “Brad said they’d stop by if they were in town.”

“They’d?” “They?”

You mean?

That’s right. Since Cox and Pitt have reportedly remained friends, NW claims she’s “even extended the dinner invitation to Brad’s new partner Angelina Jolie and their six young kids.”

At the end of the article NW longingly says, “We’d give anything to be a fly on that wall.”

And we’re the fly swatter. 

When Gossip Cop contacted a source close to Cox, the insider responded, “LOL… doubt it.”

Actually, does anyone not doubt it?

The glow Australians see around Britney Spears as she tours their country for the first time this month might be because she probably spends a lot of time laughing at the latest nonsense the tabloids churn.

Now from the people who fabricated plans for a lavish Spears wedding down under comes word that the pop icon will use this portion of her tour to conceive.

You read correctly.

“Britney is so psyched about coming to Australia,” a so-called “close source” tells NW magazine.

Psyched to give some great performances, right? No, that’s not all according to NW.

“The ideal scenario would be for her to get pregnant while they’re on this trip.”

What?

Yes, it seems that since Spears chose not to marry in Oz, the mag has decided she’ll do the next best thing.

Friend Taylor Clyne says Britney’s “made huge strides in the last year,” and boyfriend Jason Trawick “has been a big part of that… She knows he’ll make an amazing father and she wants to get started on building a family with him.”

Immediately? As in, before she even leaves Australia? Um, how exactly would a “source” know this “baby bombshell” in the first place?

Well, the “source” doesn’t. There is no baby agenda. Just like there were no wedding plans last month. Just like there were no wedding plans four months ago when NW put a Britney “engagement” on the same cover that infamously claimed Kristen Stewart was pregnant.

A source close to Spears tells Gossip Cop that she plans on performing in Australia, not procreating.

Britney Spears is not getting married in Australia. Repeat: NOT getting married in Australia.

Of course, that didn’t stop NW magazine from touting on its cover, “Britney Wants Quickie Oz Wedding,” and writing, “The singer, who recently reunited with her agent Jason Trawick, is looking to get hitched in a lavish ceremony in Oz after she finishes the Australian leg of her Circus tour.”

The magazine steps in it further when it reports, “the couple have already looked at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens as a possible venue.” It also claims, “With Britney’s dad Jamie and mum Lynne flying to Australia for the finale in Brisbane on November 22, insiders expect the pair to tie the knot after the final show.”

Let’s move backwards: The tour’s “finale” is not on November 22 in Brisbane, it’s November 29 in Adelaide.

Additionally, a source close to Spears tells Gossip Cop that she and Trawick have not looked at Sydney’s Royal Botanical Gardens as a wedding venue.

And finally, the reason they haven’t looked at the Botanical Gardens is that they are NOT looking to get married in a lavish ceremony in Australia.

Oops, the rags did it again.

From the ‘journalists’ who broke the story that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were expecting a baby comes today’s “Twilight” doozy – that the two have “revealed all” about their relationship in a bombshell interview scheduled to coincide with the release of “New Moon.”

Yes, NW magazine reports that Robsten “have finally lifted the lid on their steamy relationship” in a conveniently unnamed “US monthly magazine.” The “intimate chat” supposedly took place over three days in Vancouver during filming of “Eclipse.” Among the topics covered: the “shock love triangle” that nearly tore them apart, their “intense sexual chemistry,” and the truth about their marriage plans. (Haven’t we debunked similar stories before?)

Here’s what Gossip Cop knows: Yes, Pattinson and Stewart have done advance interviews to coincide with the movie’s release, but they are NOT giving joint interviews about their private lives—period. And while it’s fun for NW to throw in phrases like “secret sex trysts” and “soul mates,” there’s no way the mag, with its fertile imagination, is accurately reporting what’s been said in those interviews. Again, NW has birthed a bad rumor.

If we were Australia’s NW Magazine, we’d be counting down the days to our riches!

An online sports betting site has offered odds on which of nine celebrity bachelors will be the next to become a father. And “Twilight” hunk Robert Pattinson leads the way with a +350 pay line! (Actors Shia Labeouf and Adrian Grenier are next, at +400 and +450, respectively.) This means that a $100 bet on Pattinson will win $350.

NW, you’ll recall, shocked the world with its “exclusive” back in July that Pattinson and co-star Kristen Stewart were expecting a baby.

(Pause for laughter.)

We’re guessing that NW staffers are online as we speak, putting their hard-earned money down on Pattinson’s imminent fatherhood.

The story popping up everywhere has “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart - finally photographed together at a Kings of Leon concert – now moving in together. And guess what?

The story is wrong everywhere.

Australian tabloid NW got the ball rolling with a report that after filming ends on “Eclipse,” the third installment in the “Twilight” series, Pattinson and Stewart plan to move into a luxury home in Los Angeles. “It was only a matter of time,” Gordon Rael, a supposedly close friend of the couple, told the rag. “They’re a perfect match on and off screen, so they are right to trust their instincts and give this a proper shot.”

How about some proper reporting?

Anyway, those close to Stewart confirmed to Gossip Cop that this story is “untrue.”

It wouldn’t be the first time that NW tried to cash in with a ridiculous Robsten story. Earlier this summer the mag absurdly claimed on its cover that Stewart was having Pattinson’s baby.

According to the tabs, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have split more often than Kirstie Alley’s pants on the dance floor.

The latest ill-timed cover comes from the Australian tab NW, which ran with the story “The Fight that Split Brad and Ange.” The weekly claims the two have gone their separate ways following an argument on July 26 at a Los Angeles drive-thru McDonald’s, where the Brangelina brood picked up food. The rag claims that while the kids had their Happy Meals, mom and dad noisily fought. “They started arguing so loudly that everyone could hear them in the cars behind them,” reported a supposed eyewitness.

Obviously, then, it makes total sense that since Pitt and Jolie split up at a McDonald’s, they would return to the golden arches to make up. The couple and their kids were photographed again, exactly a week later, on August 2, picking up more Happy Meals.

Clearly, this return to the drive-thru was to mask the pain of their break up, or possibly – and this is crazy – Brad and Angelina were just enjoying another family McSunday since they never split in the first place.

We just got morning sickness reading this story about Kristen Stewart. According to NW Magazine in Australia, the same country that gave us Vegemite and “Crocodile Dundee,” “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart is pregnant with co-star Robert Pattinson’s baby. (You read that right.)

NW Magazine, which has the “exclusive” (now and for perpetuity), adds that Stewart was “so worried someone would discover her secret she sent a close pal to buy a pregnancy test kit.”

Even more absurd? The tab says, “because of the timing, she thinks Rob could be the father.” Wow, what can be more embarrassing than finding out you’re not the father of a fictitious baby? Uh, writing this nonsense?
