The mother of a “Toddlers & Tiaras” star is suing media outlets for allegedly “sexualizing” an online story about the 5-year-old girl.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in a Manhattan court, Isabella Barrett’s mother Susanna claims The Huffington Post and other sites posted a video of the toddler singing LMFAO’s “I’m Sexy And I Know It” and described the little girl as “gyrating in a nightclub and singing about her sex appeal.”

Susanna argues that it was a deejay who encouraged her daughter to mimic some dance moves, and that the media wrongly portrayed her as being erotic.

“She did not understand the concept of sex, let alone ‘sex appeal’ and could not have been singing about her own sex appeal,” claim the court papers.

The suit, which also names TMZ and the Daily Mail as defendants, says the portrayals have caused Isabella to be “perceived sexually, erotically and pornographically,” placing her “in serious physical danger, attracting the attention of others who would seek to sexualize a child.”

The lawsuit also alleges that the outlets caused the young reality star’s Glitzy Girl jewelry line to lose funding and a contract for another series.

The Barretts are seeking $30 million in damages, according to the New York Daily News.

According to the New York Daily News, Beyonce has checked into Lenox Hill Hospital and is set to give birth.

Reps for the singer and her husband, Jay-Z, have not returned requests for comment.

The newspaper reports that Beyonce checked into the hospital under the name “Ingrid Jackson,” and confirmed with an employee that a woman by that name was in a “labor room.”

At the moment, there is no independent verification.

Gossip Cop is working to confirm the Daily News report.

It’s worth noting that last week’s rumors about Beyonce entering St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital to deliver her baby were proven false when, still pregnant, she enjoyed New Year’s Eve out in Brooklyn with Jay-Z on Saturday.

There are a couple of people who are less than thrilled about Rosie O’Donnell‘s new relationship with 40-year-old Michelle Rounds, reports the New York Daily News.

According to the paper, picking up on a piece in this week’s National Enquirer, Rounds’ parents did not know she was gay until O’Donnell told the media they were dating.

Rounds’ father Roger supposedly tells the tabloid, ”It totally hit us out of left field. We only found about Michelle liking girls when all this came out about them a few weeks ago.”

“This has been a painful experience for me and my wife,” he allegedly confesses to the mag, explaining, “We’d always held out hope that Michelle would eventually find a nice guy to marry, settle down and have kids. And now this – it’s pretty shocking stuff for us to digest.”

However, despite what Rounds’ dad may have told the Enquirer, her parents were well aware of her sexual orientation long before O’Donnell came into the picture.

“Michelle came out when she was 27,” a rep for O’Donnell tells Gossip Cop.

Star Jones “practically had a meltdown” at polo matches in Bridgehampton, NY on Saturday, according to the New York Daily News.

The paper claims the former co-host of “The View” accosted a security guard after he stopped her from re-entering a VIP area by stepping over a low hedge.

According to the Daily News, a “livid” Jones supposedly became “snarky” with the guard, arguing, “I’ll step over if I want to!”

When the guard didn’t budge, Jones was “forced to walk around to the proper entrance,” says the article, which also claims Jones “snubbed” less-than-famous guests at the polo match.

What actually happened, however, is that the Daily News wanted to write a story that fits in with Jones’ supposed “diva” reputation and injected drama into an uneventful August afternoon.

A rep for Jones calls the “meltdown” story totally untrue, and Gossip Cop agrees, having been at the event and hearing absolutely nothing about Jones snubbing guests or accosting guards.

“Joe Jonas is booed, has balls pelted at his face, during ‘See No More’ performance in Williamsburg,” reads the headline of a piece in the New York Daily News.

According to the newspaper, “The middle Jonas brother got a rough reception in Brooklyn’s hipster capital on Wednesday night when audience members at the Paper magazine party pelted him with mini-basketballs and greeted his performance with a mixture of derision and stony silence.”

The tab goes on to say that Jonas’ performance of songs from his first solo album, “Fast Life,” at the House of Vans, was “a nightmare.”

“The booing and jeering began as soon as the Disney TV star and his four backup singers took to the stage,” writes the News.

“Audience members were even targeting Jonas with green Nerf-style mini-basketballs that Corona beer, one of the night’s sponsors, had handed out to partygoers,” says the newspaper.

In fact, the News says it witnessed two guys “peg Jonas in the face with their balls.”

Jonas, claims the paper, was “deflated by the time he and the backup singers wrapped up” his set with a performance of “See No More,” the tune he co-wrote with Chris Brown.

But is that really an accurate portrayal of the evening?

Reviews of the show did not mention any booing.

And Paper magazine’s Executive Editor, Alexis Swerdloff, tells GossipCop, “As someone who was standing in the middle of the crowd during the entire performance, I can say that yes, there were a few balls thrown onto the stage — but they were promotional balls that were being thrown around all night — and that Joe was hardly met with stony silence!”

Contrary to the account of Jonas being met with “derision,” Swerdloff says, “Rabid fans lined up around the block hours before the performance and were screaming throughout.”

Wait, is that the sound of Jonas fans booing the New York Daily News?

Was Emma Watson really bullied out of Brown University?

Last month, the actress announced she’d be taking a break from her studies to have time for professional commitments.

But outlets like the New York Daily News are spreading a rumor that harassment from other students may have forced Watson from school; specifically, that the Harry Potter star’s “brainy ways may have led to her classmates’ heckling.”

According to a so-called “insider” for the paper, Watson would be mocked with incessant, snide Potter references when she participated in class.

There were also reports of Watson being heckled while attending a Brown-Harvard football game and otherwise being harassed about her fame.

So did her peers’ comments actually chase Watson from college?

Not at all.

A rep for Watson tells Gossip Cop the story is completely false.

“There isn’t a grain of truth in it,” we’re told.

Watson “absolutely loved her time at Brown and made lots of great friends,” only leaving because she’s decided “to pursue a different course which sadly Brown does not offer.”

She will transfer to a new school for the fall.

Ryan Phillippe has given his first public comments about ex-wife Reese Witherspoon‘s engagement to Jim Toth.

“I’m very happy for both Reese and Jim. I wish nothing but the best for the mother of my children,” Phillippe says in a statement to the New York Daily News.

Phillippe and Witherspoon divorced in 2008 after seven years of marriage.

They have two children together – daughter Ava and son Deacon.

In a story that RadarOnline is touting as an “exclusive,” the site writes, “Kelsey Grammer has had a string of beautiful wives and is now engaged to a woman almost half his age, but the ladies man could be about to land his sweetest role yet as a spokesman for an online dating agency.”

How so?

According to RadarOnline, Grammer “is being offered $1 million to endorse SugarSugar.com, a site for young beautiful women, seeking a rich, older man.”

RadarOnline even quotes a rep for the company saying, “SugarSugar.com is offering Kelsey Grammer $1 million to endorse the online dating service as the official ‘Sugar Daddy Spokesman.’”

One hitch: Grammer was NOT offered $1 million to be the site’s spokesman.

A rep for the actor rep tells Gossip Cop that “no one” from Grammer’s camp received the (publicity seeking) offer. And if they did, we’re told there’s NO way Grammer would even consider endorsing the dating service.

Interestingly, Gossip Cop hears the SugarSugar people first tried to pitch this “exclusive” to the New York Daily News, but they passed on this not-so-sweet publicity ploy.

Today, the New York Daily News examines why Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson split up, and in the process the paper makes a few notable errors.

Picking up on a story from E!, the tabloid reports that Blake Lively - Reynolds’ Green Lantern costar – “may have led him astray,” and that there were “rumblings that everything wasn’t exactly up to wedding vow snuff” with Reynolds and Lively on the film’s set.

Whoa!

The Daily News also writes, “It wasn’t until the end of last month, when Reynolds returned to the city from Los Angeles, that Johansson told him she wanted a divorce.”

According to a so-called “source” for the paper, “Reynolds wasn’t ready [to get a divorce] and told her they ‘should avoid it at all costs.’”

So, did Reynolds stray with Lively?

Absolutely NOT.

“There was no cheating on either part,” says a source close to Reynolds and Johansson. And a source close to Lively assures Gossip Cop that talk of the “Gossip Girl” star and Reynolds ever hooking up is ”150 percent untrue.”

Additionally, contrary to the News‘ contention, our insider reveals “Ryan was the one to pull the plug” on the marriage, though ultimately it was “a mutual decision.”

While less sexy than allegations of infidelity, the real reason Johansson and Reynolds split, says our impeccable source, was that “they grew apart because of distance.”

Michael L. Brea, the actor who murdered his mother with a sword, did so because he believed she’d been corrupted by a demon.

“I didn’t kill her. I killed the demon inside her,” Brea told the New York Daily News from the prison ward at Bellevue Hospital.

Yannick Brea was found hacked to death in her apartment on Tuesday. Her son was taken into custody immediately and charged with second-degree murder.

In the Bellevue interview, Michael Brea describes in chilling detail the events that led to Yannick’s death.

According to Brea, God visited him as he slept last Sunday, telling him his time on earth was over. The following day, Brea says he received another sign when a man tried to put a curse on him near a Masonic temple in Harlem.

Feeling sick, Brea boarded a train back to Brooklyn, and claims strangers began speaking to him about his mother.

“I felt like Neo from ‘The Matrix.’ I began hearing voices and feeling powerful,” said Brea.

Back at his family’s apartment, Brea hugged his mother, explaining, “I knew I would never see my mother again. I gave her lots of love.”

He lit candles in his bedroom, placing a dagger and 3-foot ceremonial Freemason sword by his side and arranging three saint cards around him.

Brea claims his mother then spoke to him with “the voice of the demon.” He confronted her with the dagger and sword, asked if she believed in God, and then began to slash her, chasing Yannick from room to room.

“I didn’t want to kill her right away. I wanted to give her time to get right with God,” says Brea. He recalls ignoring the police when they arrived at the apartment, refusing to stop the carnage.

“No one could stop me. I was doing the work of God.”

“He’s People‘s Sexiest Man Alive for 2010. She’s GQ‘s Babe of the Year. But are Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson still hot for each other?” asks the New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” column.

The column claims that a source close to Johansson says the couple has relationship “troubles,” which may be “the reason the abs-solutely fabulous Reynolds did not make a cameo on ‘Saturday Night Live’ when his Lamborghini-curved wife hosted the show last weekend.”

To further make its point, the Daily News notes that “in October 2009, Johansson put in a surprise ‘SNL’ appearance when Reynolds was the show’s guest host.”

The paper then says it heard “producers were interested in having the upcoming ‘Green Lantern’ star make a similar cameo,” but he declined.

OK, so even if he didn’t want to do a cameo on “SNL,” how does that translate to “troubles” in one’s marriage?

More importantly, sources tell Gossip Cop there was never even a mention at “SNL” of Reynolds doing a cameo.

Meanwhile, a rep for Johansson assures Gossip Cop the attractive couple is “not having any marital issues,” and a spokesperson for Reynolds similarly says the Daily News’ premise is “not true.”

Liev Schreiber might be going to Tahiti, but it’s the New York Daily News that’s obviously on vacation.

The paper claims the actor planned the island getaway to “contemplate the state of his five-year relationship” with Naomi Watts. According to a Daily News source, while Schreiber and Watts are technically “together,” the couple has “not been getting along lately,” so Schreiber decided to take a break from the “tensions at home.”

Schreiber’s decision to skip a press junket for his upcoming film Salt and head for the tropics with friends — but without Watts or their two children — is spurred by a need to “sort things out mentally,” alleges the source.

When Schreiber’s camp explains to the Daily News that his vacation is a diving trip “and his boys are too young to go,” the paper sneers “Isn’t that what nannies are for?”

To no one’s surprise, Perez Hilton and others pounced on the story as a sign Schreiber and Watts could be “heading toward Splitsville.”

It’s no shock to learn that the Daily News and Hilton are completely off base.

“The nanny comment is just creepy,” a rep for Schreiber tells Gossip Cop, wondering why actors are now condemned for being “hands on parents.”

The rep points out that it’s entirely understandable that an actor who’s been doing a nightly Broadway show for months might want to go on vacation and relax.

She calls the paper’s “ridiculous” claims “frustrating and cheap.”

Maybe it’s time for outlets that print speculation instead of logic to consider taking a break themselves.

“BP stands for British Petroleum, but it may soon be equated with Brad Pitt,” began a recent piece in the New York Daily News, which claimed the actor “is interested in making a dramatic film about the BP Gulf Coast oil spill − not surprising given that Pitt is enamored of the region.”

The item then noted how Pitt owns a home in New Orleans, and that his “Make It Right Initiative helps communities there rebuild in the wake of Katrina.”

This rumor, not surprisingly, spread to a number of sites – like PerezHilton – that still haven’t bothered to clean up their reporting.

But Gossip Cop looked into it, and Pitt’s rep told us they “have heard nothing about this.”

At least we can stem the flow of this bad rumor.

“There’s already drama behind the scenes of the highly anticipated flick ‘Thor,’” claims the New York Daily News, adding, “and we hear it’s being stirred up by none other than Anthony Hopkins.”

According to the paper, Hopkins is “constantly trying to ‘direct’ Chris Hemsworth,” who stars as Thor. Hopkins plays Thor’s father in the film, based on the comic book.

A Daily News “source” says, “Anthony has not tried to hide his disapproval of Chris’ acting skills,” who the “insider” notes, “respects Anthony a great deal, and it looks like he’s trying to grin and bear all of his criticism.”

Still, says the tab, director Kenneth Branagh is “annoyed” with Sir Anthony.

So is there really more drama between the stars than in the film’s script?

Gossip Cop reached out to a Marvel rep, who called the Daily News’ article, “100% false.”

But that’s not all. We also contacted Hopkins’s wife, Stella Hopkins, who has been fielding calls for the legendary star. She told Gossip Cop the report was a “horrific, vile lie,” and that they are going to “talk to [their] lawyers.”

The New York Daily News hears from “sources” that Will Smith is causing production problems for wife Jada Pinkett Smith‘s medical series, “HawthoRNe.”

According to the paper’s “well-connected insider,” a recent, unplanned eight-day hiatus was ordered by the show’s network, TNT, to “sort out all of the production’s complications,” which executives supposedly blame on Will Smith “because he isn’t cooperating with the rest of the team.”

“He is not currently shooting a movie,” says the so-called “snitch,” “So he’s been a constant on the set in recent weeks.”

Reportedly, husband Smith’s frequent requests for script revisions and offers of other input “pushed back the production schedule tremendously,” causing everything to “spiral out of control.”

Gossip Cop isn’t sure what this “insider” is seeing on set, but perhaps a visit to the (real) eye doctor is in order.

The real reason for the hiatus, we’re told, was a serious illness of a Smith family member, something one of the Daily News‘ own sources says.

And a rep for the actor and producer assures Gossip Cop the loose talk pinning the break on any kind of behind-the-scenes drama is “definitely not true.”

“Actress Lindsay Lohan was reportedly not invited to Jill Stuart’s Fashion Week show because she was considered a ‘brand damager,’” claims the New York Daily News.

According to a Daily News source, “A lot of designers, and especially Jill’s camp, don’t think she’s worth all the press she’d get their show.”

Well, not only did Stuart deny the ban to the Daily News, but the story is also way off base when it further declares Lohan’s “absence from NYC is a little personal, too: Her ex-girlfriend, deejay Samantha Ronson, and Sam’s twin sis, designer Charlotte, practically run Fashion Week.”

Uh, Lohan’s absence in New York has nothing to do with any ban… or even with Fashion Week.

Lohan was in London at a Haiti relief benefit called, “iRock4Haiti,” held at Altitude 360 London.

The actress even said, “I’d rather be raising money for those that need it in Haiti” than attend Fashion Week.

Like the saying goes: “No good deed goes unpunished.”

Hot on the heels of the news that Alex Rodriguez and Kate Hudson broke up comes a story from the New York Daily News that the baseball star hit on a leggy blonde in a Miami restaurant while having lunch.

“Newly single Alex Rodriguez went down swinging – three times – while hitting on a blond in barely-there shorts,” cattily reports the paper.

According to the Daily News, while eating lunch at the restaurant Huston’s, A-Rod positioned himself next to a table of women, which included a “mystery woman” in “tiny shorts.”

“He started talking and laughing and joking with them almost immediately,” reads the article, which then claims the three-time MVP “must have hit on [the leggy blonde] three times, and three times she didn’t want anything to do with him.”

After the slugger supposedly struck out, he focused on his plate of grilled chicken.

The group of women and Rodriguez then left the restaurant at about the same time, writes the Daily News, which adds, “Rodriguez offered the ladies a smile, a wave and a ‘goodbye’ before walking out and jumping into his car.”

That’s a very fascinating story.

Now here’s what really happened.

Rodriguez was seated at a booth near the women, and it was the women “who engaged him in conversation,” says an insider, who assures Gossip Cop the Yankees star absolutely was not hitting on the blonde – or any of her friends.

The source also couldn’t believe that Rodriguez’s simply being polite to “gawking fans” could be so “completely misconstrued.” Says the source: “The last thing he was doing was making advances.”

Unfortunately, now that the baseball season is over – and Rodriguez and Hudson are over – Gossip Cop suspects there will be a slew of A-Rod “relationship” stories that are filled with errors.

The New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” crashed again in a piece that said on Lindsay Lohan’s “to-do list is Gucci model Adam Senn.”

According to a Daily News “source,” Lohan and Senn “really hit it off” when the actress was last in New York.

That same “source” claims, “He’s genuinely interested in her, and it seems pretty mutual,” adding “Adam even said he was looking forward to when she got back from India,” where she’s working on a BBC documentary on poverty in that country.

The item goes on to then detail how she’s “recently canoodled with the likes of Jason Segel, Kevin Connolly, and a very married Cash Warren.”

Here’s what’s wrong, paragraph by paragraph:

1. Senn is not on Lohan’s “to-do” list. And we know this because she told Gossip Cop from India, “it’s a story from over three years ago.”

2. They didn’t hit it off the last time she was in New York, because she didn’t see him – she spent the vast majority of her time at her mom’s place.

3. Senn may be looking forward to seeing her, but Lohan is not interested in him.

4. Though the article said she “canoodled” with Jason Segel, Kevin Connolly, and Cash Warren, the reality is she didn’t hook up with ANY of them.

Lohan told Gossip Cop the article is “lame BS.”

The National Enquirer took two single singing stars and added them together for a story that equaled “wrong.”

6. And then the secret romance with Justin Timberlake…

Star magazine declared on it’s cover, “Justin & Rihanna: It’s On!” — and the mag is still WAY OFF. Only the mag’s readers got “cheated.”

5. The Star continued with its “Jessica vs. Rihanna: Showdown!”

Oh wait, Jessica Biel and Rihanna never had that “showdown,” in much the same way Timberlake never cheated with Rihanna. At least, the Star spelled everyone’s names correctly.

4. Rihanna called Biel to assure her the only beautiful music she was making with Timberlake was in the studio

The Enquirer claimed Rihanna had her assistant track down Biel’s number so she could assure her nothing was happening with her man. Isn’t it great when two people can clear the air and settle something … that was never unsettled in the first place?

3. Rihanna romancing 90201 star Tristan Wilds

The New York Daily News claimed that proof Rihanna was having a secret relationship with “90210″ star Tristan Wilds was when he showed up to a party of hers as an “unexpected guest.” Huh? If they were dating he wouldn’t have been “unexpected.” Are we missing something here?

2. Rihanna’s men have to have big um… brellas?

The German magazine Bravo had quotes allegedly attributed to Rihanna that caused a GIANT stir. The HUGE controversy was over reported remarks that her men needed to be, well… you know. The story ended up being a BIG lie.

The New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” column has crashed again with its piece, “Rihanna finds romance with ’90210′ star Tristan Wilds.”

The column reports, “Spies tell us that the singer is dating actor Tristan Wilds. The ‘90210’ star was an unexpected guest at a party RiRi held over the weekend at her L.A. home, where she was saying goodbye to pals before taking off for a set of London gigs.”

Wait, if she’s dating Wilds, why would he be “an unexpected guest?”

Logic be damned, Gatecrasher goes on to say that, according to a guest, everyone at the party “quickly realized they weren’t meeting for the first time, because they were openly affectionate for everyone to see.”

Oh, it’s on because it was obvious that “they weren’t meeting for the first time?”

Anyway, the column adds that its source says Rihanna and Wilds “were introduced by a music producer who has worked with both of them,” and that “They hit it off the moment they laid eyes on each other.” That same “guest” says, “From the moment he walked into her party, Rihanna lit up.”

Maybe – and we’re just going to throw this out there – Rihanna was happy to see Wilds because… they’re friends?

But rather than basing a romance tale on someone’s observation of how Rihanna reacted when an “unexpected guest” showed up to her party, Gossip Cop actually contacted two people who are close to her. Both said it wasn’t true. One of them emphatically stated, “definitely not.”

Not “unexpected.”

The boobs at the family-friendly New York Daily News published a photo online today of Lady Gaga in which her right breast is clearly exposed.

The article in the Gatecrasher column that accompanied the photo had something to do with Lady Gaga not needing Kanye West to sell tickets, and how her solo “Monster Ball’ tour is doing well. Or something like that. Frankly, most of our attention was diverted by the titillating error the paper made posting this picture. So much so that we didn’t even notice — until a reader pointed it out — that the Daily News also misspelled Kanye’s name wrong in its headline, “Lady Gaga doesn’t need Kayne to pack the house.”

We’re sure the Daily News regrets its mistake — and has picked up a slew of male readers.

Call Gossip Cop a softie, but we like to share sweet stories that we hear about celebrities. This one is about hip-swiveling Shakira.

On Monday night when the singing star was leaving a party in New York, where she celebrated her latest Rolling Stone cover and the release of her album, “She Wolf,” she breezed past the paparazzi standing outside and instead noticed, as she was getting into her car, an 11-year-old girl who had been patiently waiting for her for two hours. 

“She turned around and went over to the little girl and gave her a big hug,” an eyewitness told Page Six, adding “The girl started tearing up. It was very cute.”

Shakira seems to have a fondness of late for kids. She also told the New York Daily News at that party, “I’d love to have kids,” though she’s not necessarily ready to get married.

“David and Victoria Beckham spend over $2,000 on designer ‘teacup’ pigs,” reported the New York Daily News. And Perez Hilton claimed, “Victoria Beckham has splurged on TWO of the latest celebrity must-have accessory – the micro-pig… they are a Christmas present for husband David Beckham.”

Wait, so did the couple go hog wild together on the pig purchase, as reported by the New York Daily News, or is “Cop Blocker” Hilton correct that Posh picked up the pricey porkers herself as a gift for Becks?

Yes, Gossip Cop decided to investigate Pig-Gate – and get the trough, the whole trough, and nothing but the trough.

Sorry to sling mud, but neither the Daily News nor Hilton are right. A source close to the Beckhams tells Gossip Cop the hogs “were a gift from Victoria’s mom.”

Gossip Cop’s repeated calls to the pigs for a statement were not returned. (Just kidding.)

“’Twilight’ duo, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, stay apart to squash romance rumors,” was the headline of a piece in the New York Daily News’ Gatecrasher column.

The article then went on to say, that in order to quiet talk of them being a couple, Pattinson and Stewart “are keeping a safe distance while promoting their ‘Twilight’ sequel, ‘New Moon.’”

The paper even has an alleged “insider” say, “They’ve requested to do press separately for the movie… to avoid being seen together. Any time they’re photographed in the same place, the rumor mill just starts all over again.”

Picking up on that story, Perez “too-busy-blocking-Gossip-Cop-on-Twitter-to-fact-check” Hilton writes Pattinson and Stewart “won’t be in the same city again until they come to the Big Apple for back-to-back appearances on the ‘Today Show’ on Nov. 18.”

A couple of things: One, neither Hilton nor anyone else would know about the “Today Show” bookings had it not been for Gossip Cop.

Two, is he freakin’ serious?! “They won’t be in the same city again until… November 18”? Uh, the premiere in Los Angeles is on November 16 — two days before — and they’re BOTH going.

But why stop there?

The Gatecrasher column and “Cop Blocker” Hilton must have simply forgotten that Pattinson and Stewart will be together on November 6 when they tape “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

And that’s right, they’ll also be together in Paris for a promotional appearance on November 10.

And oh yeah, the following day they’ll be together for an event in London.

So other than those three dates…

No wait, Pattinson and Stewart will be together on November 12 in Madrid.

Nor should you forget about their event together in Munich on November 14.

Just to recap then… so unless you count their appearances together in Los Angeles, Paris, London, Madrid, Munich and then again in Los Angles – that’s correct, they “They won’t be in the same city again until… November 18.”

Maybe Gatecrasher and “Cop Blocker” should consider a profession where accuracy isn’t so important.

Gossip Cop obviously doesn’t like it when the paparazzi take invasive pictures or dangerously chase celebrities, but sometimes they get unfairly blamed, and that happened earlier with a story involving Brad Pitt.

Today, The New York Daily News posted a story titled, “Brad Pitt hit by paparazzo while riding motorcycle in Los Angeles.” According to the article, which credited TMZ as the source, “Some ‘inglorious basterd’ tailing Brad Pitt as he rode his motorcycle in Los Angels hit the megastar, causing him to crash and fall… When a paparazzo hit Pitt from behind, the bike was thrust forward into another car, causing him to lose his balance.”

The story was picked up EVERYWHERE without independent corroboration.

Well, TMZ updated its story, after some more fact-checking, and reported instead,  “We just spoke to someone who has seen video of the incident — and we’re told absolutely no one else was involved in the accident.”

The site explained, “We’re told Brad tried to maneuver his bike between a parked car and a car stopped at a red light, and his handlebars clipped the parked car… he lost control and fell over — and everything is fine.”

Hopefully other outlets will similarly correct this mistake. Gossip Cop is also happy to hear that Pitt is uninjured.

“Hey, Miley Cyrus,” writes the New York Daily News, “you made $25 million last year – toss a dollar in the tip cup.”

According to the paper, Cyrus recently bought $70 worth of steak and macaroni and cheese for her and big sister Brandi at the Outback Steakhouse in Burbank, and forked over a crisp $100 bill, but, said the paper’s source, “kept all the change.” No tip. At minimum the “Hannah Montana” star should have left a 15 percent ($10.50) tip, right?

Other outlets picked up the tab report, including Perez Hilton, who offered his two cents: “You’d think with as much ca$$h as Miley Cyrus (sic) raking in, she’d have the decency to leave a tip. Not true!”

Actually what’s not true is the account of what happened. In fact, more than 15 percent of the story was left out. After a bunch of calls Gossip Cop found out that the Cyrus sisters didn’t eat at the restaurant. They picked up the grub to go. And a rep for Cyrus also confirmed, “It was a take-out order,” hence no need for a tip.

The New York Daily News has tried to pit Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Denise Richards against his current wife Brooke Mueller. In an item today in the paper’s “Gatecrasher” column, it’s reported that Mueller “threw a fit” at an Emmy Awards gifting suite “when she was denied her request of a diamond-and-gold Hershey’s Kiss necklace – and offered silver instead.”

According to the paper, Mueller reportedly said, “I know Denise Richards was here earlier, and she has a diamond necklace.” After being told that it was true, says the paper, “Mueller sniped: ‘She’s going down!’”

How dramatic – and fictional.

Yes, it’s true that both women went to the same gifting suite. In fact, Mueller and Richards, who now have an amicable relationship, ran into each other and exchanged hugs and kisses. A woman who was there at the time told Gossip Cop that Mueller even complimented Richards: “I love your boots.”

That same onlooker says Mueller was told by the jewelry people that they didn’t have anymore diamond necklaces to give away then, but an employee offered, “We’d love to send you one.”

But what about Mueller “throwing “a fit?” The eyewitness tells Gossip Cop there was “no yelling” or any type of phrase uttered like “She’s going down!”

Boy did the New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” column crash and burn on a story about Kirsten Dunst, well, crashing.

According to the paper, “Kirsten Dunst crashed a luncheon at NYC’s Oak Room [last week] because she wanted to score a job.” It goes on to claim that during a lunch in honor of director Jane Campion, “Dunst barged in because she wants a role in the director’s upcoming ‘Runaway.’”

Other equally unreliable reports picked up the story and added, for instance, that Dunst did “an impromptu audition.”

All of it is not true.

As a matter of fact, Campion has been interested in meeting with Dunst for some time to discuss a role, but their schedules never worked out. And it just happened that both of them were in New York that day so Campion asked Dunst “if she wouldn’t mind meeting her at the Plaza,” her rep told Gossip Cop.

Repeat: Campion asked Dunst to meet her at the Plaza. The “Spider-Man” star did not crash the luncheon.

Nor was there any audition of any kind by Dunst.
