“Star Jones is furious with Oprah Winfrey for giving Rosie O’Donnell a show on her new network – but not her!” begins a piece in the National Enquirer.

According to one of the tab’s so-called insiders, “Star could not believe Oprah has signed Rosie to be on her new network, but hasn’t called to discuss any ideas with her!”

That same alleged insider claims that Jones is “shocked” and “angry” that she hasn’t heard from Winfrey since the talk show queen’s new station, OWN, “will have 24/7 programming and plenty of room for Star to do her thing.”

Adds the Enquirer‘s source, “Star says Oprah is making a big mistake, and she can’t wait until Rosie flips out again… maybe then Oprah will give her a call.”

For weeks, various mags have  wrongly reported there’s a feud between Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Seacrest over a variety of issues, including which star gets top billing. Now the National Enquirer claims the two are in a “money war.”

Reportedly, Seacreast makes $15 million a year off of “American Idol,” and Lopez is taking home $12 million for her first season.

According to the tab, Lopez “shrewdly negotiated a pay raise for herself every time Ryan… gets a salary boost, and the ‘Idol’ host is livid.”

A so-called “insider” tells the Enquirer, “Ryan hasn’t confronted J. Lo, but when he heard that her future raises are tied to his raises, he was furious.”

“Basically, her contracts are hard-wired so that when Ryan makes more money, she’ll make more money,” says the tab’s source, adding, “[Ryan] doesn’t like his salary being dragged into her contract negotiations, and he’s upset about her tactics.”

Wow!

As in… wow how wrong this story is.

For starters, Seacrest isn’t upset with Lopez. In fact, they’re friends, and the “Idol” frontman is among the reasons why Lopez wanted to do the show.

More importantly, though, a Lopez confidante assures Gossip Cop that the new judge’s salary is in NO WAY tied to Seacrest’s. And a source close to Seacrest tells us the Enquirer‘s tale is “ridiculous.”

Actually, far from being angry with each other, a source connected to the hit show tells Gossip Cop that Lopez and Seacrest are already having fun “ribbing each other” on air.

“MILEY MARRIAGE SHOCKER,” screams the headline of a piece from the National Enquirer.

According to the tab’s online article, “Miley Cyrus is not only back together with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, they’re headed to the altar.”

“What’s more,” adds the Enquirer, “17-year-old Miley’s proud papa Billy Ray Cyrus is thrilled.”

The tab then quotes an unnamed source as saying, “Billy Ray is all for the wedding… once she turns 18,” which is about a month away.

So when are the nuptials slated to take place?

The Enquirer claims in the spring of 2011.

Hold off on your wedding gifts.

A rep for both Miley and Billy Ray tells Gossip Cop the story is “not true,” and that the “Hannah Montana” star is “not getting married” this spring.

“Jessica Biel is seething with jealousy over Justin Timberlake‘s red-hot career,” begins a piece in this week’s National Enquirer.

According to the tab, as Timberlake “rides a wave of praise for his role in the hit film ‘The Social Network,’” Biel’s “bad attitude over Justin’s work accomplishments is adding more stress to the couple’s already troubled relationship.”

What “troubled relationship”?

Would that be the trouble that the Enquirer manufactured when it wrongly linked Timberlake to Rihanna? Or when it wrongly linked Timberlake to Kate Hudson?

All nonsense.

Anyway, the Enquirer goes on to quote a so-called “source” as saying, “[Biel] doesn’t think Justin has paid his dues and that he’s gotten one lucky break after another,” before adding, “The jealousy is draining the passion between them.”

No, the only thing that’s draining is how the tabloid tries to create strife between a perfectly happy couple.

In fact, far from there being “jealousy,” a source close to the couple tells Gossip Cop Biel and Timberlake are “very supportive of each other” and “are very happy in their relationship.”

“It’s Viva Las Vegas for Amanda Bynes,” reads the headline of a National Enquirer story, which, in all earnestness, goes on to claim that she’s “running away to join the circus!”

The tab reports that Bynes, who recently announced her retirement from acting, “is planning an animal-themed show in Las Vegas.”

Yes, you read that right.

According to a so-called “pal” quoted in the article, “Amanda loves animals… and she’s looking into doing a circus-type animal show in Vegas while her name is still hot.”

Really?

No.

A rep for Bynes called the report “hilarious,” and a source close to the former “All That” star tells Gossip Cop there isn’t a shred of truth to it.

Once again, the only clowns here are the ones at the Enquirer.

The National Enquirer reports “Oprah Winfrey exploded as she headed for her limo in the studio parking lot – and spotted one of her young female staffers driving slowly by as she texted away.”

The tab says Winfrey followed the car and “banged on the car window, shrieking: ‘YOU’RE TEXTING!… YOU’RE TEXTING!”

According to the Enquirer, the young employee was “terrified” as Winfrey “bellowed in her face about the dangers while driving, and how everyone who works for her WILL follow the rules.”

“Are you going to fire me?” the mag quotes the employee saying in between tears. 

“No, I’m not going to fire you YET!” Winfrey allegedly responded, adding, “But if I ever catch you texting while driving, you WILL be jobless!”

And while it’s true Winfrey has her nationwide “No Phone Zone” campaign and pledge that states, among other things, “I will not text while I am driving” – all in an effort to save lives – this particular incident NEVER happened.

A rep for Winfrey says the Enquirer‘s parking lot tale is “not true.”

“Jealousy drove Orlando Bloom to finally pop the question to Miranda Kerr!” reports the National Enquirer. 

The tab goes on to claim that Bloom only proposed to the Victoria’s Secret model, “fearing she was getting way too close to their mutual friend, [Kings of Leon] rocker  Jared Followill.”

A so-called source then says, “Orlando’s been jealous of Miranda’s relationship with Jared ever since the two became close last year,” and that the supermodel “told him point-blank that if he was so worried about her running off with another guy, then why hadn’t he asked her to marry him?”

This is almost as dramatic as Bloom’s Lord of the Rings, and equally make-believe.

A source assures Gossip Cop that Bloom, Kerr and Followill are friends; Bloom is NOT jealous; and that the actor’s motivation to propose was entirely a result of him wanting to marry Kerr, nothing else.

According to the National Enquirer, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore had a huge fight when a “mega-gigantic flat screen TV” was delivered to their home.

The tab claims Kutcher wanted the big screen in their bedroom, but it wouldn’t “fit unless [Moore] let him move some artworks and furniture.”

The Enquirer reports Moore told him, “We’re not moving anything, and if you want a TV that big, you’ll have to find someplace else – because it’s NOT going in here!”

Who was their source – the nightstand?

Ultimately, says the tab, Kutcher “had the home theater people take it away, promising he’d contact them” if things changed.

While Gossip Cop couldn’t reach the nightstand, Kutcher’s rep says the tale is “completely false.” And Moore’s rep says the incident “never happened.”

“Jennifer Aniston has a new partner in crime – funny acid-tongued talk-show Chelsea Handler!” reports the National Enquirer.

How so?

According to a so-called “insider,” Aniston and Handler “were friends, but they’ve bonded recently over both being single and looking for love.”

The tab further quotes its “insider” as saying, “Rather than slog through the dating scene alone, Jen and Chelsea have teamed up.”

How so?

“The single friends… are prowling for men together – hosting speed-dating parties, hunting for eligible men at dog parks and the gym and vetting potential mates for each other,” writes the mag.

Curiously, the Enquirer doesn’t have one single detail of any “speed-dating parties” or of them “hunting for eligible men.”

That’s because the story is “BS,” says a mutual pal of the two ladies.

The confidante tells Gossip Cop, “They are friends, but do not see each other that regularly. Needless to say they have never prowled!”

Maybe the Enquirer should prowl for more facts before publishing some of their stories.

In a National Enquirer “exclusive,” the magazine claims, Britney Spears “has a crush on her female psychologist.”

According to one of the supermarket tab’s sources, “Britney was interested in her [female] doctor sexually… And she actually thought the doctor was interested in her also… Britney mistook the doctor’s patience and kindness for flirtation.”

Seriously?

In early February, alleges the Enquirer, Spears made “numerous harassing calls to her office,” which “disturbed” the psychologist.

That’s when the pop singer’s dad, Jamie Spears, stepped in because of possible legal ramifications, says the mag.

But Spears, claims the Enquirer, supposedly explained to her father that he should be happy, because her money would be safe if she’s with “a successful woman,” and there would be no need to worry about her “remarrying or having kids anytime soon,” two things the tab says he’s been “terrified” of.

While, by most accounts, Ellen DeGeneres’ next book will be a humorous look at her life, the National Enquirer somehow managed to write that this third book will be a “tell-all memoir to get the last laugh in her infamous split with Anne Heche.”

What?!

The tab notes DeGeneres has “always taken the high road,” but now claims “the gloves are off,” and the talk show host is “ready to spill all the beans” about Heche, who dumped her and later married a cameraman.

According to the Enquirer, DeGeneres will dish, among other things, about how “Anne used her as a Hollywood stepping stone.”

“Ellen is using this book to settle an old score. Anne broke her heart,” says a so-called “source.”

Gossip Cop reached out to a DeGeneres confidante, and was told the Enquirer’s premise that the comedienne is penning a memoir “to settle an old score” is completely “ridiculous.”

The National Enquirer claims that when Charlie Sheen was slated to accept 30 days in jail, “he issued this order to his personal assistant: ‘When I get home from Aspen, I want to see everything new in this house. Get rid of it all.’”

According to the tab, “Charlie demanded that a decorator be hired to refurnish his entire house… especially the bedroom furniture he once shared with soon-to-be ex-wife Brooke Mueller. Charlie was adamant about the bedroom stuff.”

Sheen “furthered ordered every photo of Brooke trashed,” reports the mag, quoting a so-called “source,” who says the “Two and a Half Men” star told his assistant, “I don’t want to see her face anywhere in the house.”

Wow!

Not “wow,” as in “Sheen really did that?”

More like, “Wow, no one bothered to see if this story was true or not.”

The story is false, right from its premise.

As Sheen’s rep noted to Gossip Cop, “Charlie doesn’t have a personal assistant. You do the math.”

Which is why this story earns a 0.

According to the National Enquirer, Behar is about to bolt the morning gabfest because her HLN talk show is a “runaway hit,” and after doing “The View” for 13 years, claims a friend, “Joy feels like she’s treading water… She believes there’s more to life than arguing” with Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

And while it’s true Behar has been at “The View” for a long time (in fact, from the beginning), and that her HLN show is doing extremely well, the quick-witted comedienne is not leaving “The View” anytime soon.

“Despite the public humiliation she suffered after her husband cheated with tattooed strippers and biker groupies, America’s sweetheart Sandra Bullock has put her $250 million divorce from Jesse James on hold – and she’s thinking about taking him back,” begins an article in the National Enquirer.

The supermarket tabloid then quotes a so-called “friend” of Bullock’s as saying, “For now, she’s stalling on the divorce… I think she has forgiven Jesse and she is missing the life they built together, particularly now that she has [adopted son] Louis.”

Adds the “friend,” Bullock “can’t stop thinking about a future when all of them could be one big happy family again. Sandra has put the divorce on hold for the time being.” 

NO, she has not.

The divorce is going full steam ahead.

Bullock’s rep tells Gossip Cop the Enquirer’s story is “false,” and that “the divorce is on schedule pursuant to Texas law.”

The National Enquirer claims Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox “are working on a top secret script” for a “Friends” movie, and “it looks like Jen may also direct the project.”

Yeah, the script is so secret – not even Aniston and Cox know about it.

Nevertheless, according to a so-called “insider,” Cox and Aniston “watched with envy as the ‘Sex and the City’ cast parlayed their cable TV show into a massive movie success.”

That why, says the supermarket tab, Aniston is “campaigning to make a ‘Friends’ movie.”

The Enquirer further reports Aniston is trying to get the NBC series’ creators “to give the movie their blessing,” and has already called costars Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc, who the mag says have “given a big thumbs up to the idea.”

Well, Gossip Cop is giving this story a big thumbs down because it’s not true.

There is no “Friends” movie in the works.

A rep for Aniston confirms to Gossip Cop, “There is no secret ‘Friends’ script nor is Jennifer campaigning with the creators.”

“Lindsay GETS A LIFE COACH: Paris Hilton!” announces a headline in the National Enquirer.

According to the supermarket tabloid, “Paris Hilton has mended her friendship with Lindsay Lohan and is trying to help the troubled actress get her life back together.”

Uh, huh…

The Enquirer claims it has an “insider,” who says, ”Paris is worried that Lindsay has hit rock bottom and doesn’t want something terrible to happen to her. She wants to put the past behind them.”

Hilton, who did a stint in jail after violating probation from a DUI arrest, reportedly reached out to Lohan because she “understands what Lindsay is going through,” and wants her former friend to get help before she, too, lands behind bars.

Funnily, the mag adds, “Paris’ influence may be working.”

The story, however, is totally fabricated.

Lohan didn’t get a life coach, though the Enquirer should get a clue.

A source close to Lohan confirms to Gossip Cop that Hilton did not reach out to help the actress.

According to the National Enquirer, before leaving “American Idol,” Simon Cowell found a mouse in his dressing room.

Initially, he was going to set it free, but a so-called “source” tells the supermarket tabloid that Cowell instead ”took the mouse home to his mansion, then stayed up half the night feeding it warm milk.”

The “source” added, “He became so attached to his new little pet, he even took it on trips.”

This is a nice little tail, er, tale, but it isn’t true, though Gossip Cop still loves the part about Cowell “feeding it warm milk.”

A source close to Cowell adds, ”Simon likes animals but not that much!”

In a piece titled, “Love Story II: Ryan O’Neal looking for happy endings with Cheryl Tiegs,” the National Enquirer alleges that Tiegs “comforted grieving Ryan” at the funeral of his longtime love Farrah Fawcett, and over the past year since then, their friendship has grown into a “full-blown love affair.”

As an example, claims the Enquirer, “The pair came as a couple to the book-signing party for Raquel Welch‘s new memoir, ‘Beyond the Cleavage’” on May 6.

O’Neal and Tiegs – a “full-blown love affair”?

Actually, it’s the tab just blowing more smoke.

A source, who was at the Welch party and knows the parties involved, tells Gossip Cop O’Neal and Tiegs didn’t attend the event “as a couple.”

“He came with [daughter] Tatum [O'Neal] and a couple of other friends,” says Gossip Cop‘s insider, who added, “They ran into each other and chatted briefly… There is no ‘love affair’ nor has there ever been one.”

End of (love) story.

“Oprah Winfrey has vowed to bury her top TV rival ‘Judge Judy’ before quitting her talk show, and banned her feisty ratings foe from all things Oprah,” claims the National Enquirer in an article titled, “Oprah Takes Aim at Judge Judy.”

According to a so-called insider, “Oprah is furious” that Judge Judy has tied or beaten her in the ratings a few times.

“Now Oprah has made it clear,” says a source, “that she doesn’t want Judy mentioned in her magazine, on her TV show or on her cable shows — anywhere, any time, any way. Judy is banned.” 

The tabloid further alleges that a “threatened Oprah” wants her show “to end in a blaze of glory. She’s made it clear that heads will roll if the ratings don’t climb.”

Seriously?

Uh, no.

Although the Enquirer tries to present a case worthy of a courtroom drama, with both women squaring off against each other, staffers swear it’s not the truth, not the whole truth, and nothing like the truth.

Additionally, a rep for the show tells Gossip Cop, “It’s not true.”

Story dismissed.

According to the National Enquirer, Paula Abdul

The supermarket tabloid reports that “American Idol” producers “begged” Abdul “to help them soften hard-edged Kara [DioGuardi] with ‘the Paula persona.’”

“The Paula persona”?

Not long ago, says the magazine, “Paula secretly met with longtime pal Kara and her makeup people and advised on makeup products, colors, blushes and shades — then suggested several glamorous hairstyle ideas. Paula even wrote a list of do’s and don’ts for Kara’s wardrobe choices.”

Uh, huh…

Adds the Enquirer, ”Now the producers are thrilled with how Kara looks on camera, and they’re crediting Paula with the successful makeover.”

Did this really happen?

Gossip Cop investigated, and a source close to DioGuardi tells us the Enquirer‘s tale is… 

“Very funny but untrue.”

Actually, it’s not that funny.

The National Enquirer claims Tom Cruise was “livid” after Katie Holmes was offered the role of Jackie Kennedy in an upcoming 8-hour History Channel miniseries.

Why?

Because it’s interrupting his “baby dreams” to have another child, reports the mag.

 “After shedding many tears, and enduring days of Tom pouting and stewing,” says one of the tabloid’s so-called sources in very unnatural speech, “Katie won the battle after promising that having a baby will be her No. 1 priority after this plum project.”

The Enquirer’s source adds, “Tom backed off, but made it clear he doesn’t want to hear about any more roles before Katie gets pregnant.”


Actually, Gossip Cop doesn’t want to hear any more phony tales.

We looked into these claims and found nothing to back up Cruise being “livid” or a promise to get pregnant by Holmes in exchange for the Jackie O part.

Additionally, a rep for Cruise tells Gossip Cop the Enquirer’s item is “ridiculous.”

No one wants Mel Gibson to get married more than the National Enquirer.

Probably even more than Gibson himself.

Since last fall, the supermarket tabloid has published a series of stories about Gibson’s supposed wedding plans to Oksana Grigorieva. 

The magazine claimed he was set to tie the knot last December. And for an equal amount of time Gossip Cop rep reported there was NO such wedding in the works.

Eventually, the Enquirer began to hedge by saying Gibson was getting cold feet, followed up by a subsequent story titled, “Mel Calls Off Wedding.”

Huh? Calling off a wedding that was never even going to happen in the first place?

Anyway, it’s a new year, and the Enquirer is trying again to peddle this old – and wrong – tale.

In a piece this week about Gibson’s personally financed Holy Family Chapel in Agoura Hills, California, the Enquirer once more spews that Gibson and Grigorieva “will tie the knot there later this year.”

Well, the mag bought itself another nine and a half months – till the end of this year –  but even that may not cover the Enquirer. 

Gibson’s rep tells Gossip Cop (again) that talk of marriage is “rubbish,” and that there is “no wedding planned.”

Guess we can expect another “Gibson Cold Feet” piece sometime soon.

Can you believe Rihanna is still in touch with Chris Brown?

“Despite Rihanna’s new romantic relationship with baseball stud Matt Kemp, stunned pals say she’s still reaching out to Chris Brown,” reports the tab.

According to the Enquirer, the singer “feels like she won’t truly heal” until she and Brown have some sort of friendship.

Really?

A so-called “insider” explains, “Rihanna still talks to Chris. There’s some kind of need there, still.”

No, there isn’t. He brutally beat her.

It took the National Enquirer just three words to get a story wrong. That’s a record! (For the time being.)

“Jennifer Aniston’s ex-beau,” begins a story about the “Friends” star and Gerard Butler.”

Already, the story is wrong since Aniston NEVER dated Butler.

But we’ll continue…

According to the supermarket tab, “Jennifer Aniston’s ex-beau has hit her with one final insult – he wants to settle down and have a baby – just not with her!”

“During their romance, Gerard told Jen the last thing he wanted was to get married and settle down. Now that he’s left her, he’s had a change of heart,” reports the mag, adding, “Jen was shocked when Gerard told her recently that he now wants a family.”

Oh really?

(Reminder: They NEVER dated.)

So what does the Enquirer say was the cause of Butler’s “change of heart”?

While eating a Sunday lunch in a Los Angeles restaurant, Butler, claims an Enquirer “source,” saw a couple with a baby, and “kept saying, ‘I want one of those. I want my own kid. Children are what it’s all about.’”

Uh, had he never seen a baby before? Or “one of those,” as they would have us believe him saying?

So while chowing down brunch he decides to make a life-changing decision, and then inform a woman whom he NEVER dated that he wants babies?

Suffice to say, Butler’s rep told Gossip Cop the story is “ridiculous.”

That’s an understatement.

Gossip Cop reached out to the writer of this tall tale, seeking a comment as to whether the information was fact-checked.

The National Enquirer has targeted one of its favorite subjects — Mel Gibson — and, once again, is off the mark.

Remember, this is the same magazine that mistakenly reported that Gibson was getting cold feet over his impending marriage, when there never was a wedding planned, and yet still went on to report that he and Oksana Grigorieva were arguing over a prenup, before claiming he called off the (never-planned) wedding.

The latest misfire is about Gibson’s and Grigorieva’s baby girl Lucia.

According to the facts-challenged tabloid, “Grigorieva’s biting her tongue after praising [Gibson’s] parenting skills to a Brit mag, gushing: ‘Mel’s very hands-on… He has been very doting and nurturing. He’s incredible with children, very kind.’”

The Enquirer’s “insiders” now claim that Grigorieva is “steamed” because “Mel’s not helping with Lucia as much as she’d like. He’s not even living at the house he bought for his mistress.”

OK, that’s enough for Gossip Cop.

The story is false in several ways. Among the most glaring gaffes is that Gibson NEVER bought Grigorieva a house — and he is being a good dad.

In fact, it’s so far off that Gibson’s rep told Gossip Cop it was “not worth commenting [on].”

“Liv Tyler Falls For Zach Braff,” reads a headline in the National Enquirer this week.

The supermarket tab has a so-called “friend” of Tyler’s saying Braff has “swept Liv off her feet.”

Is that so?

According to the Enquirer‘s source, “Zach makes her laugh and hasn’t pressured Liv into a serious commitment.” That’s good news, considering the gossip rag has only ONE instance of them even having dinner together.

On November 14, the two ate dinner at Vinoteco in Los Angeles, which an alleged “eyewitness” described as “a romantic dinner.” 

Romantic? 

Actually, it was a work dinner. Tyler was meeting with Braff about a film he’s directing.

Both Tyler’s and Braff’s reps tell Gossip Cop there is no truth to them being a couple.

That said, it’s still fun to read the Enquirer conclude their work of fiction with “The last thing anyone wants to see is Liv getting her heart broken.”

Gossip Cop is fairly certain that won’t happen from a business dinner.

A couple of week ago the National Enquirer ran a headline that read, “Johnny Depp Sails to Rescue of Pal Nic Cage,” and went on to say that when “The Pirates of the Caribbean” star had learned of Nicolas Cage’s financial troubles, “Johnny called Nic and basically told him, ‘Look, don’t worry. I’ll help you. You just let me know, all right?’”

At the time, Gossip Cop was told by Cage’s rep that the story was “not true.” Oh don’t worry — it’s still not true.

But now comes word – also via the Enquirer – that George Clooney is “meeting with Nic and told him he would help him any way he can, including movie projects.”

Not only is this offer similarly gracious, but it is also not true.

Clooney’s rep tells Gossip Cop, “George has met Nicolas Cage once in his life, and that was three or four years ago at the Venice Film Festival.”

We’re looking forward to next week when the Enquirer has Cage being offered help from either Robert Pattinson or Carrot Top.

Was it a case of “Oops… I did it again” for Britney Spears ex Kevin Federline?

The National Enquirer claims the four-time father is about to add a fifth, courtesy of girlfriend Victoria Prince.

An “insider” tells the supermarket tab Prince “suspected she was pregnant” in mid-October, took a home pregnancy test at Federline’s urging, and “the test was positive.” The results allegedly upset Federline, who was “worried” how Spears would take the news, and loves Victoria but “didn’t want to get married again.”

Actually, we’re pretty sure Federline is resting easy. Because Prince is NOT pregnant. A representative for Federline tells Gossip Cop the rumors “are not true.”

How desperate must things be at the Enquirer if they can’t even pin a pregnancy on Kevin Federline?

The National Enquirer practically invited Gossip Cop to bust them over a story about Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston.

An item in this week’s issue reads, “Note to Jennifer Aniston… The freaked-out funnyman’s dreading to tell you the awful news, but bride-to-be Kyla Weber just flat out ordered him to cancel the wedding invitation he sent you.”

Ooh, that’s awkward. But wait, there’s more…

As usual, the Enquirer has some “source,” ready with a perfectly phrased sound bite. The so-called “source,” claims Vaughn’s fiancee told him, “This is supposed to be MY day! I’m the bride, but if she comes, everyone will look at her — not me!”

This is all very interesting, especially since not only haven’t they sent out ANY invitations, but — for crying out loud — they haven’t event set a date!

Vaughn’s rep, who added that the wedding will be a small affair with just their closest friends and family, told Gossip Cop the Enquirer story was absolutely not true.

Shocking!
