Justin Timberlake Mulls Possible MySpace Talent Competition

Justin Timberlake has big plans to bring attention to MySpace, where he’s just taken an ownership stake.

To make up-and-coming musicians a major part of the relaunched social media platform, the star is discussing ideas including a talent competition for the site.

“Whether it becomes a talent competition or something like that, those are things that we will still flesh out,” says his manager Johnny Wright.

“We definitely want to bring the industry back to MySpace to really look at the talented people that have put their faces there.”

Justin Timberlake is taking an ownership stake in MySpace.

The singer-actor, who starred as Facebook pioneer Sean Parker in The Social Network, will play a “major role in developing the creative direction and strategy” for the rival platform.

Specific Media, which today acquired MySpace from News Corp., made the announcement late Wednesday.

“There’s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect,” said Timberlake in a statement.

“MySpace has the potential to be that place.”

“American Idol” has gone online.

For the first time in the TV juggernaut’s history, singers will be able to submit an audition video through MySpace.
