Just days after Katie Holmes filed a lawsuit against Star magazine for its outrageously wrong reporting, corporate sister National Enquirer is piling on with dubious claims about the actress’ marriage.

Holmes “has been living such a tortured life with Tom Cruise,” alleges the Enquirer, “that pals are urging the actress to get a divorce.”

The tabloid quotes a so-called “insider” as saying that Holmes is “at the end of her rope” and is “just not the same happy, carefree woman she used to be.”

Last night, the actress and her hubby Tom Cruise took daughter Suri to see New York City Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker. The family flew into the Big Apple from Vancouver, where Cruise is working on ‘Mission: Impossible 4.’

After the show, Suri got to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy backstage.

Jeremy Renner could “take over” the ‘Mission: Impossible’ movies from Tom Cruise.

The actor, who is co-starring with Cruise in ‘Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol,’ the fourth film in the series, told MTV News, “It’s a franchise to potentially take over. I can’t predict what the future holds and what they want, but that’s certainly the idea.”

Whether it’s claiming that Holmes plans to write a $15 million tell-all about their marriage (not true), insisting that Cruise bought daughter Suri a $100,000 castle (not true), alleging that Cruise doesn’t allow his wife to use his gym equipment (not true), or just casually fabricating Suri’s summer at a day camp, the tabloid is never satisfied to stick to facts alone.

Now comes a cover story promising details of the couple’s “broken home” and their alleged “marriage deal.”
