The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has announced its annual list of artists and executives invited to join the organization as Academy voters.

178 actors, directors, animators, cinematographers, editors, producers and other Hollywood types were named in all, an eclectic group that includes some big names, including some Oscar nominees from this past year.

Emma Stone to Play Gwen Stacy in ‘Spider-man’ Reboot

Although the studio and even Emma Stone’s own people expected her to grab the the role of Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming ‘Spider-man reboot,’ she’s instead going to play Peter Parker first love, Gwen Stacy.

The 3D film, due in 2012, will feature Andrew Garfield as the title character.

Carey Mulligan will not play hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander in the U.S. version of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

“I can officially quash that rumor once and for all,” the actress said yesterday. “It’s not going to be me. But I’m excited to see it. I love the books and I think it will be great.”

Among the supposed contenders are Oscar nominees (Carey Mulligan and Anne Hathaway), major film trilogy veterans (Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley), best buds from “Juno” (Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby), the star of 2010′s biggest film (Mia Wasikowska), the co-star of this weekend’s biggest film (Scarlett Johansson), and a girl with some book-to-film adaptation success (Kristen Stewart).

Alice in Wonderland posted the best 3D and IMAX openings in history — even bigger than Avatar — with a total domestic weekend haul of over $115 million.
