There are car chases, fights and prison hijinks aplenty.

According to reports, the film will bypass theaters and be released on DirecTV on May 1.

The actor-director is serving jury duty in Los Angeles, Gossip Cop confirms.

It’s not clear whether he’ll actually be assigned to a case – right now, he’s waiting along with other prospective jurors.

Given Gibson’s recent history with courtrooms, he’s undoubtedly relieved to be merely performing his civic duty this week.

Mel Gibson officially divorced Robyn, his wife of 31 years, on Friday.

A judge just signed off on the paperwork in a Los Angeles court.

Robyn filed for divorce back in 2009 after it was revealed that Gibson was expecting a child with Oksana Grigorieva.

What stalled the divorce from being completed for more than two years was the division of the couple’s assets, which is estimated at somewhere between $650-$800 million.

The ex-Mrs. Gibson will now go by her maiden name Moore.

The Gibsons, who have seven children together, did not have a prenuptial agreement.

We’re told the divorce is entirely amicable.

Which celebrity would you least want to spend the holidays with?

The OMG! celeb site on Yahoo! polled more than 1,000 readers for a Hollywood Holiday Survey with the question, and the results are pretty entertaining.

Asked which star they would least want to take home for the holidays, 26% of respondents answered Snooki, with Charlie Sheen coming in at a close second with 20% of the vote.

Paris Hilton came in third with 13%, Chris Brown followed at 11%, and Lindsay Lohan, Courtney Love and Mel Gibson each received 10%.

Respondents were also asked which star they would most like to party with on New Year’s Eve, and Seth Rogen topped the list with 20% of the vote.

Also ranking high on the guest list were Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, who both received 19%, as well as Kim Kardashian with 13%.

Interestingly, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, who topped the least wanted holiday guest list, were also voted as celebs people most wanted to party with, with Hilton receiving 9% and Lohan at 7%.

Rihanna (6%), Pitbull (5%) and The Situation (2%) also made the want-to-party list.

Mel Gibson has another kid on the way, claims Star magazine.

The tabloid says it has a “world exclusive” that Gibson’s alleged ex-girlfriend Laura Bellizzi is four months pregnant with his baby.

According to Star‘s “well-placed source,” Bellizzi “has confided that Mel is the baby daddy.”

Of course, Bellizzi herself slammed the Gibson baby daddy rumor when Star asked her, but the tabloid covers its bases by offering the weak excuse that Bellizzi “does not want anyone to know” who the father is.

A rep for Gibson, meanwhile, tells Gossip Cop the whole Star story is “b.s.”

That would put it in good company with dozens of recent fictions printed by the magazine.

Gibson has seven children with estranged wife Robyn and a two-year-old daughter, Lucia, with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

But don’t expect #9 to arrive anytime soon.

Robert Downey, Jr. used his tribute at the American Cinematheque Award Show to ask Hollywood to forgive Mel Gibson.

The evening was held to honor the work of Downey, whose professional comeback from drug use and prison has been nothing short of amazing. Stars including Michael Douglas, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Jodie Foster and Gwyneth Paltrow praised the Iron Man star in taped and live tributes at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

But the most dramatic moments came after unannounced guest Gibson came onstage to present Downey with the Cinematheque honor.

During Downey’s darkest period, Gibson famously stood up for the actor, helping him get hired despite insurance risks and lending him support and guidance.

On Friday, Downey returned the favor.

“When I couldn’t get sober, he told me not to give up hope and encouraged me to find my faith. It didn’t have to be his or anyone else’s, as long as it was rooted in forgiveness,” explained Downey.

He added, “[Gibson] kept a roof over my head and food on the table and, most importantly, he said if I accepted responsibility for my wrongdoing and embraced the part of my soul that was ugly – ‘hugging the cactus’ he calls it – he said that if I ‘hugged the cactus’ long enough, I’d become a man.”

“I would ask that you join me – unless you are completely without sin, in which case you picked the wrong f*cking industry – in forgiving my friend his trespasses and offering him the same clean slate you have me, allowing him to continue his great and ongoing contribution to our collective art without shame,” said Downey.

The crowd applauded as Downey said of Gibson, “He’s hugged the cactus long enough.”

Gibson’s transgressions have been well-documented.

Ever since Brad Pitt spoke with Parade magazine about his marriage to Jennifer Aniston, outlets have tried to paint a picture of the exes being at war.

The Moneyball star was quoted in the interview as saying he was “trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t,” comments widely interpreted as an unfavorable comparison of Aniston to Angelina Jolie.

According to the new Star magazine, the “outburst stunned Jen,” leading her to tell everyone Pitt’s a “liar.”

Specifically, Aniston allegedly takes issue with Pitt’s implication that she was to blame for their “boredom” as a couple, claims Star.

“Jen called him right away to ask him just what he was thinking with all of this,” says a tab “insider,” who explains that she’s “humiliated and annoyed.”

The Parade quotes are supposedly “taking a toll,” says Star, rendering Aniston an emotional wreck.

Except Star‘s version of events bears no resemblance to reality.

Aniston and boyfriend Justin Theroux are very visible and very happy, as evidenced during their Thursday night charity art auction participation.

She didn’t make an outraged phone call to Pitt, because, as he explained on the “Today Show,” she’s been through the tabloid wringer and knows better than to engage in a faux feud.

What really pushes Star‘s nonsense over the top is a sidebar comparing Pitt’s action to “horrible exes” including Mel Gibson (who left Oksana Grigorieva abusive voice mail messages after their split) and Jesse James (who trashed Sandra Bullock‘s bedroom skills on “Howard Stern”).

Meanwhile, Pitt made a couple of comments that were grossly misinterpreted, and for which he’s repeatedly offered explanation designed to protect Aniston, whom he still calls a “dear friend.”

The only ones who should feel “humiliated” and “annoyed” are those who spent $3.99 on this week’s issue of Star.

Mel Gibson‘s decision to make a movie about ancient Jewish hero Judah Maccabee is stirring controversy, and now some organizations are making their outrage known.

Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Wiesenthal Center tells Gossip Cop it’s “preposterous” and “an insult” that Gibson, long accused of anti-Semitism, would be preparing a film on the life of Maccabee.

“Mel Gibson is no Judah Maccabee,” says Hier.

Hier compared the plans to taking “Bernie Madoff out of jail and having him play the chairman of the Security and Exchange Commission.”

Meanwhile, the Anti-Defamation League has released a statement asking Warner Bros. to remove Gibson from the project, explaining, “As a hero of the Jewish people and a universal hero in the struggle for religious liberty, Judah Maccabee deserves better.”

It continues, “It would be a travesty to have the story of the Maccabees told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people’s religious views.”

Mel Gibson is set to produce a movie about Jewish hero, Judah Maccabee.

The actor and director, who went on a drunken anti-Semitic rant during a 2006 arrest in Malibu, is teaming up with Basic Instinct screenwriter Joe Eszterhas to tell the story of the Maccabee family, whose revolt against the tyrannical King Antiochus and reconsecration of the Jewish Temple is told on the holiday of Hanukkah.

A rep for Gibson confirms to Gossip Cop that he’s set to produce the heroic tale and possibly direct it as well.

The project, which is being set up at Warner Bros., has been on Gibson’s mind for more than a decade.

In fact, when promoting The Passion of the Christ in 2004, Gibson told Sean Hannity in an ABC Radio interview, “The story that has always fired my imagination… [the] Maccabees.” He added, “The Maccabees family stood up, and they made war, they stuck by their guns, and they came out winning. It’s like a Western.”

At that time, Gibson was accused of anti-Semitism for The Passion of the Christ, and the Anti-Defamation League’s Abe Foxman said if  Gibson were to make a movie about the Maccabees, “We’ll lose. He’ll write his own history.”

Mel Gibson must give Oksana Grigorieva $750,000 as part of their custody agreement, to be paid in three installments of $250,000.

The former couple will have joint legal and physical custody of daughter Lucia.

The terms of the deal were revealed during a joint court appearance today in Los Angeles.

Gibson will make the first payment upon signing of the deal later today, with the subsequent payments due on September 15, 2013 and January 1, 2016.

Money from the eventual sale of the home Grigorieva and Lucia share will be put into a trust for Lucia.

Reportedly, both Gibson and Grigorieva are barred from writing about the party in a book.

We’re told both parties are pleased with the outcome.

Earlier this week, Betty White was crowned America’s “favorite and most trusted” celebrity in a poll conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs.

White, Denzel Washington and Sandra Bullock led the pack of 100 pre-selected public figures (politicians excluded), with the trio each getting a “favorable” opinion from at least 84% of respondents.

Mel Gibson is again in an L.A. court, working out custody and visitation issues with Oksana Grigorieva over their daughter Lucia, confirms a source close to the actor.

We’re told Gibson is meeting with Judge Scott Gordon in the hopes of getting close to an equal amount of time as Grigorieva has with the little girl.

Gossip Cop will update when a decision is made as to whether Gibson is awarded more time with Lucia.

The former lovers have sparred in court over a variety of issues, including Grigorieva alleging that Gibson hit her in January 2010 as she held their daughter.

The actor played around at the 10^th birthday party for Josie and Teresita Cajas, the Guatemalan twins who were conjoined at the head and then separated in 2002 during a 23-hour operation at the UCLA Medical Center.

Gibson joined many members of the surgical team at the party because he’s been active in Mending Kids International, the organization that was responsible for the little girls’ medical care and paid for their $1.5 million surgery.

Mel Gibson has reportedly finally settled his divorce.

The embattled actor and his estranged wife, Robyn Gibson, have come to terms on a full agreement, according to TMZ.

Her lawyer, Laura Wasser, is said to have told the judge this morning that the two sides have hammered out a deal, including property settlement.

An official judgment is expected in August, at which point the divorce would become official.

The Gibsons wed in 1980.

They remained technically married throughout Gibson’s volatile relationship with baby mama Oksana Grigorieva.

Mel Gibson has had his fair share of serious legal issues in recent months, and now he’s being sued over… recycled tires?

A man named Nader Sherif alleges that Gibson prodded him into investing his life savings – $200,000 – in Green Rubber, a company that uses special technology to recycle old tires.

According to Sherif, Gibson eventually convinced him to do so by promising he’d buy back Sherif’s stock at full face value whenever he wished.

But when Sherif later approached Green Rubber about selling his stake, the firm supposedly refused. When he then asked Gibson, says Sherif, he was dismissed.

Now Sherif is suing for $200,000 plus interest.

The lawsuit was first reported by TMZ.

Mel Gibson’s The Beaver, which also stars and was directed by Jodie Foster, got a lot of publicity — thanks (unintentionally) to Gibson’s taped rants — but the movie still tanked at the box office.

The film opened with a limited release in 22 theaters in the country’s biggest markets, and only earned $104,000.

To put that in perspective, that’s an average of $4,745 per screen, though the studio had hoped for close to four times that amount per screen.

While the film did far better in L.A. and in New York, it totally bombed in places like  Boston, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.

The film opens nationwide on May 20.

Mel Gibson broke his silence and spoke for the first time about a variety of subjects, including those infamous taped telephone rants directed at his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

“It’s one terribly awful moment in time, said to one person in the span of one day, and doesn’t represent what I truly believe or how I’ve treated people my entire life,” Gibson tells Deadline in a candid interview.

He claims that despite the tenor of the tapes, “I’ve never treated anyone badly or in a discriminatory way based on their gender, race, religion or sexuality – period. I don’t blame some people for thinking that, though, from the garbage they heard on those leaked tapes, which have been edited.”

Gibson feels, “You have to put it all in the proper context of being in an irrationally, heated discussion at the height of a breakdown, trying to get out of a really unhealthy relationship.”

He says he regrets what he said and never thought Grigorieva was taping him. “Who anticipates being recorded? Who anticipates that? Who could anticipate such a personal betrayal?”

And if the scandal means the end of his career, Gibson would be OK with that. “I could easily not act again. It’s not a problem,” he says. In fact, one gets the sense that he regrets having decided when he was younger to become an actor. “If I could make that choice again, I’d make a different choice.”

Mostly, Gibson mourns the “loss of personal anonymity” when one becomes famous, but understands you “can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.”

While celebrity friends like Whoopi Goldberg and Jodie Foster publicly supported him, he understands why others didn’t come forward. “Why would anyone speak publicly and drag themselves through this crap?” reasons the actor.

Nor is he angry, he claims, with the actors from Hangover II who didn’t want him in the film. “It’s okay. You just have to let that go.”

Gibson says that through his scandals, including his drunken anti-Semitic rant, he tries to remain focused on his work. “There are a lot of people depending on you. There are deadlines to meet and fiscal responsibilities. There are the basics of supporting yourself and those who depend on you and those commitments that you have to co-workers. “

The Oscar winner, who also talks about his upcoming film, The Beaver, sums up, “The main thing is that [the tape scandal] was terribly humiliating and painful for my family, all my kids. “

He says he spoke to all of his kids about the embarrassing recordings, except his daughter with Grigorieva, Lucia, “who is blissfully unaware, thank God. Well, she may be aware of it one day, and at that time, I guess I’ll just address that.”

Liam Neeson‘s cameo has been cut from The Hangover Part II.

The actor shot footage as a Bangkok tattoo artist for the upcoming comedy, having replaced original choice Mel Gibson, who was axed after cast and crew members voiced complaints.

But Neeson was unavailable when director Todd Phillips decided to film reshoots for scenes including Neeson’s, so the actor was dropped during the editing process.

The final version now features Nick Cassavetes in the tattoo artist role.

The movie (watch the full trailer here) opens next month.

Mel Gibson officially turned himself in for booking on criminal battery charges at El Segundo Police Department in L.A. last night.

The actor was formally charged with simple misdemeanor battery last Friday for allegedly assaulting former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

Gibson pleaded no contest to the charge, avoiding a felony domestic violence count that could have landed him in jail.

Judge Stephanie Sautner gave Gibson one week from his sentencing to get his mug shot and fingerprints taken. Gibson took care of the formality last night.

Incidentally, the booking took place at the same time his new film The Beaver premiered at the Austin SXSW Film Festival.

Mel Gibson is prepared to fight Oksana Grigorieva until the end.

Should Grigorieva file a rumored civil lawsuit against her estranged ex citing battery, emotional distress and defamation, Gibson will sue her for extortion, according to TMZ.

The site’s sources claim Gibson would not settle this potential suit out of court.

On Friday, Gibson struck a deal with prosecutors, pleading no contest to simple battery, thereby avoiding a trial with more serious charges.

Grigorieva alleges Gibson hit her in January 2010 as she held their daughter Lucia.

Mel Gibson will reportedly serve court-mandated community service at Mending Kids International – a charity where his estranged wife works.

The troubled actor must complete 16 hours of service before June 9 as part of his sentencing after accepting a plea deal for his infamous domestic clash with Oksana Grigorieva.

According to TMZ, he’s decided to assist MKI, which provides surgical care to needy children.

Estranged wife Robyn Gibson heads the charity’s Malibu branch, and until December she served as the President of the Board of Directors for the organization.

The former couple have been longtime supporters of the group.

Mel Gibson is set to plead no contest to battery during a court appearance on Friday to avoid more serious charges in his domestic violence case with Oksana Grigorieva.

As part of the proposed plea bargain, the actor will not face jail time.

Under the terms of the deal, the Los Angeles County District Attorney will not pursue a criminal charge of corporal injury against Gibson, who would be required to enter counseling.

Gibson’s attorney Blair Berk tells Gossip Cop in a statement, “I know from almost 20 years as a criminal defense lawyer that sometimes justice can come for a client at too high a personal price. That is particularly so for Mel, whose right to due process can only be exercised in this case with an enormous media circus attached.”

“Mel’s priority throughout all of this has been that the best interests of his young daughter Lucia and the rest of his children be put first in any decisions made,” continues Berk.

“It is with only that in mind that he asked me to approach the District Attorney with a proposal that would bring all of this to an immediate end.”

Another source close to the situation confirms the rationale, informing Gossip Cop that Gibson agreed to the lesser charge to avoid the strain a lengthy trial process would put on his family.

Gibson and Grigorieva’s explosive relationship came to a head on January 6, 2010, when Grigorieva alleges Gibson hit her as she held their daughter Lucia.

A series of recorded phone conversations and voice mails documenting Gibson’s rage and threats against Grigorieva surfaced last summer.

“Charlie Sheen To Appear in The Hangover II? asks Perez Hilton, who reports, “The cast and crew are reportedly wooing Charlie Sheen to appear in a cameo for the upcoming flick.“

“Even though the film has wrapped,” continues the gullible blogger, ”director Todd Phillips is said to be currently finding a way to get Charlie to appear in the film for an undisclosed role.”

Perez then editorializes, declaring, “The producers are obviously going for ‘crazy’ – first casting Mel Gibson (then firing him) and now trying to get Charlie Sheen to appear.”

“They should just stick with the funny and not go for the outrageous,” advises Perez.

So, are producers actually trying to get Sheen in the film?

No.

A rep for the studio tells Gossip Cop, “There is no truth to the inaccurate report.”

Here’s a “crazy” idea – next time Perez should actually try fact-checking a story before racing to judge everyone else.

The National Enquirer reports, “Tensions are running hugh between former friends Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. during the filming of ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′ – and it’s all Mel Gibson‘s fault!”

Huh?

According to the tab, Downey is still friends with Gibson, who was recorded “threatening and screaming vicious insults” at Oksana Grigorieva, “and that’s not sitting well with Jude.”

The Enquirer quotes a so-called “source” as saying Law “thinks what Mel did to Oksana was appalling, and he doesn’t think Hollywood should be supporting someone who’s behaved that way.”

Downey and Law had “a genuine friendship,” writes the supermarket tab, but now “they barely speak between scenes.”

Really?

No.

Gossip Cop looked into this, and not one person we know involved in the production could back up these claims.

Additionally, a rep for Downey tells us the report is “BS with a capital B and a capital S.”

Gervais, who’s hosting the award show for the second consecutive year, is on “Ellen” today. He tells Ellen DeGeneres he’s already picked out a few “targets” for his barbs.

“Charlie Sheen has obviously put his head above the power pit. Like last year, Mel Gibson was a gift from the comedy god. So yeah, that’d be two good people out of the audience,” notes Gervais.

In response to DeGeneres asking, “Do you worry about anyone coming after you after you do it?” Gervais explains, ”I only go for the weak and the feeble.”

That’s why “I’m not going to have a go at Russell Crowe or Mickey Rourke,” says Gervais, before adding, “Mickey Rooney maybe. Betty White, I’m not scared of her.”

Mel Gibson‘s 500-acre Costa Rican estate is up for sale.

The actor is asking $35 million for the mansion, which consists of a seven-bedroom main house and a pair of two-bedroom guest houses, each with their own private pool. The oceanfront property, known as Hacienda Dorada, also includes hundreds of acres of jungle.

Gibson is trying to sell the oceanfront property because it is no longer affords privacy.

“He bought it for a getaway. Now he goes there and paparazzi follow him,” real estate agent Sandra Miller tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The controversial actor sold his Greenwich, Connecticut estate in July for $24 million.
