It’s now official: Carson Daly will host “The Voice,” NBC’s rival to “American Idol.”

Speculation that the job was Daly’s had swirled for weeks.

Today the network made the announcement.

NBC is launching a new singing competition show to rival “American Idol” and “The X Factor.”

“The Voice of America” will debut this spring, with casting already underway.

Reality TV mogul Mark Burnett, the man behind “Survivor” and “The Apprentice,” is teaming with John de Mol, who created the “Voice” format in the Netherlands and has also had a hand in behemoths like “Big Brother” and “Fear Factor.”
