The singer honored his commitment to perform at a concert that evening.

In a statement, Nick Carter explained, “I wanted to be at my sister’s funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic.”

A police report indicates that Leslie Carter suffered a drug overdose, confirming family suspicions, but there’s been no confirmed cause of death for the 25-year-old sister of Nick and Aaron.

Authorities reportedly found at least three drugs – Olanzapine, Cyclobenzaprine and Xanax – near Carter, who died in upstate New York on Tuesday.

Ginger Carter, her stepmother, told police that Leslie had suffered “a long history of mental illness and was on medication for her depression.”
