Zero Dark Thirty, about the CIA manhunt for Osama bin Laden, won the top spot at the weekend box office.

The Oscar-nominated thriller, starring Jessica Chastain, earned $24 million in its first week of expanded nationwide play.

The horror spoof A Haunted House came in second place with $18.8 million.

Gangster Squad, the new mob period piece featuring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin and Sean Penn, nabbed third with $16.7 million.

Texas Chainsaw 3D slashed its way to a surprise #1 box office debut.

The sequel/reboot of the classic horror flick Texas Chainsaw Massacre earned $23 million in theaters this weekend.

Coming in second with $20.1 million was Django Unchained, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey nabbed third place with $17.5 million.

Les Miserables is doing big business at the box office, but Adam Lambert is one moviegoer who left the theater far from satisfied.

The “American Idol” runner-up slammed the movie’s A-list cast on Twitter, accusing its stars — which include Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe — of “pretending to be singers.”

Ouch.

Hobbit Wins Box Office; Django Unchained Takes Second, Les Misérables in Third

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey looks to have edged out two challengers for the weekend’s top spot at the box office.

Peter Jackson’s latest fantasy epic earned $32.9 million in its third weekend, just enough to beat new release Django Unchained, with a projected $30.7 million in ticket sales.

Les Misérables, in its debut week, took third place with $28 million.

Les Misérables topped the Christmas Day box office, earning approximately $18 million to lead the holiday pack.

The much-anticipated musical adaptation, starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, outperformed expectations, as did Django Unchained, the slavery-era revenge epic from director Quentin Tarantino.

That film, featuring Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio, hit the $15 million mark to debut at #2.

After cutting off nearly all her hair for Les Miserables, Anne Hathaway was struck by an unexpected similarity.

“When I eventually looked in the mirror, I just thought I looked like my gay brother,” she told the audience at the highly-anticipated film’s first screening in New York on Friday.
