The Stephen Frears-directed movie stars Ben Foster as the disgraced cyclist, and follows the athlete’s journey as he beats cancer, wins seven Tour de France competitions, and falls from grace in a highly-publicized drug scandal. The Armstrong Lie is a new documentary from celebrated filmmaker Alex Gibney, who set out in 2009 to make a movie about Lance Armstrong’s cycling comeback — and wound up confronting the famed athlete about his years of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Lance Armstrong is returning to cycling — but not professionally.

Six months after the disgraced athlete confessed to using performance-enhancing drugs, Armstrong says he will compete in The Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.

The race, which takes place July 21-27, consists of a 406-mile course that winds through the state.
