‘Bridesmaids’ Becomes Top-Grossing R-Rated Female Comedy Ever

There’s a new all-time box office queen.

‘Bridesmaids’ has passed ‘Sex and the City’ to become the highest-grossing R-rated female comedy in movie history.

The hit, starring Kristen Wiig and now in its eighth week on the Top Ten chart, has now earned $152.9 million at the domestic box office. ‘Sex and the City’ finished at $152.6 million.

PETA has named the two comedy stars The Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities of 2011.

The pair beat out other meat-averse notables like Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde, Anne Hathaway and Woody Harrelson.

Chris Hemsworth’s comic book goliath earned $34.5 million this weekend to fend off ‘Bridesmaids,’ the Kristen Wiig-led ensemble comedy, which took second place with a higher than expected $24.4 million. Coming in third was ‘Fast Five,’ which banked $19.5 million in its third weekend.
