Kim Kardashian was born in Los Angeles on October 21, 1980, the second child of Robert Kardashian and Kris Jenner, following older sister Kourtney Kardashian. Her parents went on to welcome Khloe Kardashian and Robert Kardashian, Jr. before divorcing in 1991. Jenner later married Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner, with whom she had Kendall and Kylie Jenner. Robert Kardashian, an attorney who worked on the O.J. Simpson murder case, died in 2003 from esophageal cancer, devastating the family.
Kardashian first made a name for herself in the pop culture world in 2007 through her leaked sex tape with then-boyfriend Ray J, with whom she filmed the explicit footage several years prior. The family, however, parlayed the attention into the E! series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” which debuted later that year, documenting the clan’s exploits. The series spawned several spinoffs, and Kardashian became a magazine fixture, posed for “Playboy,” and competed on “Dancing with the Stars.”
While Kardashian has expanded her empire to include boutiques, clothing and makeup lines, books, and the “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” app, she remains best known for her love life. Following a failed marriage to music producer Damon Thomas when she was 19, she wed basketball player Kris Humphries in 2010. Kardashian, however, famously filed for divorce just 72 days later, though the proceedings dragged on for more than a year. Kardashian next embarked on a relationship with Kanye West, and gave birth to their daughter, North, in 2013. The couple married in a lavish wedding in Florence in 2014. That same year, Kardashian once again posed nude, this time for “Paper” magazine.
