His death was confirmed by the Oceanside, California police.

He was 43.

The police said the former NFL star died in an apparent suicide via a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest.

Junior Seau has reportedly been released from a San Diego hospital, one day after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and later driving his SUV over a cliff.

Junior Seau’s early morning drive off a cliff was not a suicide attempt, the NFL legend told authorities.

Gossip Cop confirms with the Carlsbad, CA police department that Seau told officers on the scene that he fell asleep at the wheel of his Cadillac Escalade when it barreled off the road on Monday.

Junior Seau drove his vehicle off a cliff this morning, Gossip Cop can now confirm.

Law enforcement sources tell Gossip Cop that there was an emergency call at 8:42 a.m. on Monday.

The fire department responded and found a white Cadillac SUV that had driven off a cliff. The lone person in the vehicle was identified as Junior Seau.

Junior Seau was arrested early Monday morning for the alleged assault of his 25-year-old live-in girlfriend, Gossip Cop can confirm.

When police arrived at Seau’s home in Oceanside, CA, the victim reported that the former football player assaulted her during an argument.
