Jessica Simpson opened up for the first time on “The Early Show” this morning about Eric Johnson’s proposal.

“I actually had to sit on his knee I was so shocked,” Simpson told host Harry Smith. “I didn’t even try the ring on until 5 minutes in,” she explained. “I just sat there and cried with him.”

Star magazine, which (wrongly) claimed Jessica Simpson was preparing a “kiss and tell” memoir and (ridiculously) linked her to Tiger Woods, has never had a good handle on reality when it comes to the singer.

So when the tabloid alleged that she’d bought her own engagement ring and “cajoled” Eric Johnson into proposing… well, we were more than a bit skeptical.

Just days after Nick Lachey announced his engagement to Vanessa Minnillo, Gossip Cop can confirm that Jessica Simpson is engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson.

A rep for the singer tells Gossip Cop, “Yes, they are engaged.”
