Jennifer Hudson has been asked to perform a Whitney Houston tribute at the Grammys on Sunday.

Executive producer Ken Erlich says the show plans to honor the late singer and multi-Grammy winner just one day after her death.

“We’re very saddened, and we don’t want to rush into anything that wouldn’t be respectful,” he told CNN.

He added, “I’ve asked Jennifer Hudson to come, and we’re really at this moment talking about what she’s going to do. It’s going to be something respectful. It’s not going to be a full-blown tribute, that’s too early and it’s too fresh at this moment.”

“It’s going to be something respectful to Whitney’s memory. Knowing Whitney like I did, she was a great artist and a great performer, and she knew the importance of thrilling an audience, and that’s what we plan to do.”

As celebrities and fans alike grapple with the news of Whitney Houston’s death, many are wondering if and how Sunday’s Grammy Awards will pay tribute to the iconic star.

Houston, a six-time Grammy winner, “was one of the world’s greatest pop singers of all time who leaves behind a robust musical soundtrack spanning the past three decades,” Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow said in a statement on Saturday night.

He added, “Her powerful voice graced many memorable and award-winning songs. A light has been dimmed in our music community today, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans and all who have been touched by her beautiful voice.”

Houston was expected to attend Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammys soiree in Los Angeles just hours after she was found dead at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Davis, who was the first to discover Houston’s talents, had selected her to perform at the bash, which will reportedly still be held.

While event organizers for the Grammys have not yet officially announced any specific plans to honor the late singer, early speculation has named Jennifer Hudson as a possible late addition to the telecast.

Again, nothing is confirmed.

The holidays came early for the Obama family, who celebrated “Christmas in Washington” on Sunday with a slew of celebrities, including Justin Bieber.

The President, wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia welcomed Bieber, Conan O’Brien, Jennifer Hudson and others to the National Building Museum for the spirited festivities.

Bieber and his celebrity pals each had a turn on the stage before all coming together for a group performance with the President at the end of the night.

The special event, which will air on TNT on December 16, left Bieber particularly impressed.

“Jessica Simpson won’t give birth until next spring, but she’s already planning her post-baby slimdown!” begins an Us Weekly piece, which claims the pregnant singer is negotiating a $4 million Weight Watchers deal to shed her baby weight.

The mag says Simpson “had initially intended to sign with the company to lose weight she had gained over the past few years,” but then she got pregnant, so Weight Watchers supposedly came up with the plan for her to drop her pregnancy pounds.

A “source” for Us says Simpson will have one year to ”lose a significant amount of weight” through the point-counting weight loss regimen.

“She’ll then show off her results in ads for the company — much like current spokeswoman Jennifer Hudson,” adds the mag.

Well, someone is certainly getting ahead of themselves here, but it’s not Simpson.

While a rep for the singer wouldn’t comment about the possibility of a Weight Watchers deal in the future, a family insider tells Gossip Cop, “There is nothing in place at this time.”

“There will be no fairy-tale ending for Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga after all,” begins a piece from In Touch, which claims the longtime couple has “called it quits.”

The tabloid says Hudson, who has a two-year-old son with her fiance, “has confided in pals that she’s planning to return the ring he proposed with on her 27th birthday.”

A supposed “source” for the mag states, “She’s done with him. They don’t want the same things in life.”

According to In Touch‘s insider, after three years, Hudson has “realized David [is] not supportive of her career — or her 80-pound weight loss through Weight Watchers.”

“She’s ready to move on,” concludes the source.

Actually, she’s not.

A rep for the Oscar winner tells Gossip Cop the story is “inaccurate,” adding that the tabloid was even told the rumor was false, but chose to publish it anyway.

Jennifer Hudson lost 80 pounds earlier this year, and now she’s helping others get fit as well.

The Dreamgirls Oscar winner opened the Weight Watchers Jennifer Hudson Center in the Hyde Park section of Chicago on Tuesday.

Weight Watchers will donate portions of the location’s proceeds to the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, which raises funds for children in honor of Hudson’s nephew, who was killed in 2008.

It marks the first time the company has put one of its brand ambassadors’ names on a branch.

“This new Center honors Jennifer’s commitment, and we hope, demonstrates how dedicated we are to her as our partner,” said Weight Watchers North America president Dave Burwick. “We hope that this will be the first of many centers in neighborhoods where obesity is as critical as it is in Hyde Park and Weight Watchers can continue to make an impact.”

Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and other social media superstars will lend their enormous influence to a great cause – the “Show Your Hearts” campaign – starting tomorrow.

On July 3, a car accident killed Joshua and Robin Berry and left their sons Peter (9) and Aaron (8) paralyzed below the waist. Now the boys and their sister Willa (6) are in a Houston-area hospital, facing incredible challenges.

The “Show Your Hearts” fundraising campaign to benefit the Joshua and Robin Berry Children’s Trust officially begins tomorrow, July 27.

It will be aided by celebrities including the Kardashians, Diddy, Jennifer Hudson, Selena Gomez, Julianne Hough, Nicole Scherzinger and “Glee” cast members.

These stars and others are asking everyone to spread awareness about the Berry kids by swapping out profile pictures and avatars for “Show Your Hearts” artwork.

People are also encouraged to post a picture or video of themselves making the “heart” symbol with their hands.

Donations can be made via PayPal and text.

Jennifer Hudson was hospitalized for food poisoning after performing on “Good Morning America” in New York, her rep confirms to Gossip Cop.

Fortunately, she’s now better.

She went to the hospital with “severe abdominal pains,” says her rep.

“She was treated for food poisoning and released.”

There seems to be an epidemic of celebrity hospitalizations immediately following national TV appearances.

Jennifer Hudson is upset after Bossip picked up a report claiming publishers don’t want to buy her weight loss book unless she also talks about her family tragedy.

The Oscar winner’s mother, older brother and 7-year-old nephew were killed in October 2008; her brother-in-law was later charged with the murders.

Hudson has never discussed the slayings at length.

Earlier today, Bossip repeated a New York Post item reporting that Hudson’s proposed book about her dramatic body transformation as a spokesperson for Weight Watchers cannot find a buyer.

“While Hudson’s weight struggle and self-help tips are marketable,” says the report, “sources say because of her $1 million-plus demand for the deal, publishers are holding out for the full story about her coping with the horrific slaying of her family.”

An upset Hudson then reacted on Twitter.

“Everyday I wakeup I’m constantly reminded how cruel n heartless the world is,” she writes. “So cold!! Wow!”

“Bossip u owe me an apology!” adds Hudson.

“Y would u take someone’s [tragedy] and build a story of nothing but lies around it,” asks the performer, ending with, “F*ck u!!!!”

It’s clear Hudson has zero intention of discussing the deep trauma of 2008′s events before she’s ready.

Pia Toscano‘s shocking elimination from “American Idol” last night has a lot of people outraged, including some Hollywood heavy-hitters.

Tom Hanks, Ashton Kutcher and former “Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson were among the many celebs taking to Twitter to express their frustration.

Hanks wrote, “Don’t have an Idol habit, but how could the USA vote Pia off? I may be done for the season.”

Former “Idol” judge Ellen DeGeneres said she was “shocked and so sad.”

“Who are the people that vote on American idol? That’s just crazy! That Pia girl is dope,” tweeted Kutcher.

Hudson wrote, “I can not believe they just eliminated Pia! Really?”

Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Usher are going to sign off Twitter, Facebook and other social media – all in the name of charity.

The celebs are part of a new campaign called “Digital Life Sacrifice,” which is set to raise money on behalf of Keys’ charity, “Keep a Child Alive.”

On Wednesday, which is World AIDS Day, the stars will leave their millions of fans on various social media platforms, only to return when $1 million is raised.

“It’s really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on,” says Keys.

Additionally, other stars including Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Hudson, Elijah Wood, Serena Williams, and Keys’ husband Swizz Beatz have filmed ads of themselves in coffins – dubbed their “last tweet and testament” – to represent “their digital deaths.”

“It’s so important to shock you to the point of waking up,” explains Keys, adding, “It’s not that people don’t care or it’s not that people don’t want to do something, it’s that they never thought of it quite like that.”

The money raised – via text messages – will help families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

Tina Fey will be honored tonight as the youngest ever recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

The first female head writer on “Saturday Night Live” and the force behind celebrated sitcom “30 Rock,” Fey will be feted by notables including Steve Martin, Steve Carell, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Hudson.

Fey is the third woman to get the Twain honor, after Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg.

Other past honorees include Richard Pryor, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, and Fey’s “SNL” boss Lorne Michaels.

The controversy-plagued “Winnie,” a biopic set to star Jennifer Hudson in the title role, has yet another hurdle to face: Winnie Mandela herself.

Mandela is requesting script approval before production starts on the flick, which is about her turbulent life and marriage to Nelson Mandela.

As Gossip Cop reported in January, a letter from Mandela’s lawyers claimed she was “extremely concerned” about the movie because “she has never been approached for consent or at all.”

Director Darrell Roodt says they purposefully didn’t involve Mandela because the picture is “not for Winnie Mandela, it’s about Winnie Mandela” and won’t “shy away from the controversies in her life,” according to Deadline.

Despite the latest wrinkle, “Winnie” producer Andre Pieterse insists filming will still start on May 31 in South Africa.

“TWI-HARD TRAVESTY! Are They Going To Turn ‘Breaking Dawn’ Into A Musical?” asks HollywoodLife, which itself is becoming a travesty.

The site then questions, “Would you be shocked! dismayed! sick to your stomach! if the Twilight crew broke out in song for their final films?”

Uh, oh…

So, how did HollywoodLife come up with this ridiculous notion?

Simply, it took yesterday’s news that the top pick to direct Breaking Dawn is Bill Condon, and the fact that he directed “Dreamgirls,” and came up with this off-key premise.

Of course, HollywoodLife’s proposition is like saying New Moon could have easily turned into a comedy with Robert Pattinson playing multiple parts, because that film was directed by Chris Weitz, who wrote Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

Not leaving bad enough alone, the site then took a cheap shot by saying “Condon worked beautifully with singer-actor Beyonce Knowles and Jennifer Hudson, but working with characters like Edward Cullen and Bella Swan is, we’d say, entirely different.”

Of course, nothing like this should surprise us anymore when it comes to “Twilight” and HollywoodLife. Remember, this is the same site that criticized Kristen Stewart for going to a Haiti benefit – twice.

Today, it was announced Jennifer Hudson is the new spokesperson for Weight Watchers, and that ads featuring the “American Idol” singer turned Oscar winner will start airing this Sunday.

Hudson, who gave birth to son David Daniel Otunga Jr. seven months ago, credits Weight Watchers with helping her lose the baby weight.

“I’m doing it the right way… everything from portion control to what foods will help keep me satisfied,” Hudson explained, adding, “It’s a lifestyle change, not a diet.”

But even though she’s slimmed down dramatically, that’s not all. Hudson’s rep tells Gossip Cop she “will continue to lose more.”

Late last night, Legend announced, via Twitter, that he was working with Hudson in an L.A. recording studio.

Legend first tweeted, “In the studio w/ the lovely Jennifer Hudson.” He then clarified that they are not duetting. “I’m not singing. She’s recording a couple songs my team and I wrote for her. And she sounds beautiful,” he tweeted.

After work on her new album, Hudson begins production on “Winnie,” a film about Winnie Mandela and her up-and-down life and marriage to one-time South African president Nelson Mandela.

Dozens and dozens of stars were at the Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles earlier today to record a remake of “We Are the World” to benefit those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.

Among those lending their voices and support were Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Pink, Jennifer Hudson, the Jonas Brothers, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, will.i.am, Rob Thomas, Natalie Cole, Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, Katharine McPhee, Justin Bieber, Keri Hilson, Brian Wilson, Akon, Brandy, Gladys Knight, Randy Jackson, Nancy Wilson, Adam Levine, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Robin Thicke, Jason Mraz, Faith Evans, Harry Connick Jr., India.arie, Snoop Dogg, T-Pain, Brandy,  Julianne Hough, Lil Wayne, Amber Rose, Nicole Scherzinger, and Vince Vaughn. 

The benefit single was produced by Quincy Jones, who along with Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, put together the original recording 25 years ago in the exact same studio.

Jennifer Hudson hasn’t even begun shooting “Winnie,” and already there’s controversy surrounding the film’s subject, Winnie Mandela, upon whose up-and-down life and marriage to one-time South African president Nelson Mandela the movie is about.

According to a leaked letter from her attorney to the filmmakers of “Winnie,” Mandela — who was convicted of fraud and the subject of some unsavory allegations — is “extremely concerned” about the biopic since “she has never been approached for consent or at all.”

The lawyer’s letter went on to say, “It is difficult to understand how a production bearing the name of an individual who has not been consulted at all could ever be appropriate or tell the full story of that individual’s life… This is certainly the case here, where our client has not responded to allegations and comment which have been made about her, precisely because she has sought to protect her sphere of personal privacy as best she can in extremely difficult and turbulent times.”

No word yet whether Mandela will try to bar production of the Jennifer Hudson film.

This is not the first controversy for the picture, which hasn’t even begun filming. When it was first announced that Hudson would star as Mandela, South African actors expressed anger that local talent had not been tapped for the film’s lead role.

The all-star “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon raised a record-setting $57 million — and that figure is still rising.

The two-hour telethon, which aired on every network and dozens upon dozen of other stations, drew the biggest names in showbiz to help the island nation, where an estimated 200,000 people died as a result of the January 12 earthquake.

The event was hosted by George Clooney in Los Angeles, Haiti native Wyclef Jean in New York, and featured poignant reports from Anderson Cooper in Haiti.

Among those manning the phones or giving presentations were Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Bill Clinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Aniston, Ellen Degeneres, and Matt Damon, to name a very few.

The fundraiser had several amazing performances by such artists including, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Bono, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Sting, Jennifer Hudson, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Shakira.

The money raised was a record, and yet it still doesn’t include donations from corporations or the performed songs that one can download from iTunes for 99 cents.

Yes, the folks at MediaTakeOut, which recently wrongly reported that Jennifer Hudson was “assaulted” and “violated” at an airport, now say they’ve “just got some EXPLOSIVE news. Cassie is PREGNANT.. and rap mogul Diddy is the DADDY!!!”

Side point: Putting things in CAPS doesn’t make it anymore accurate.

Anyway, MTO says, ”Cassie and Diddy have been trying to keep things under wraps… [but] MediaTakeOut.com’s insider claims that Cassie’s about 2 months preggers.”

Would that be the the same “insider” who mistakenly told MediatakeOut that Diddy was getting married on New Year’s Eve or the “insider” who said Usher was converting to Judaism?

Regardless, Diddy’s rep tells Gossip Cop, “MTO is not a legitimate news organization therefore I never address any of their ridiculous claims. Suffice it to say, it’s false.”

“Hope for Haiti” airs later tonight, and the array of stars signed up to help the island nation devastated by an earthquake is growing by the hour.

The two-hour telethon, which will air on every major network and dozens upon dozens of other stations across the U.S. and around the world, is being hosted by George Clooney in Los Angeles, Haiti native Wyclef Jean in New York, and Anderson Cooper from Haiti.

So who will you see tonight?

According to Taylor Lautner’s rep, the “New Moon” heartthrob will not be participating in the “Hope for Haiti” telethon.

But something that should be music to your ears is the long list of musicians who will be performing during the two-hour fundraiser, which is being aired on every major network and numerous other cable outfits.

In New York, where Haiti native Wyclef Jean will host the show, there will be performances by Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Sting, and Jean himself.

Co-host George Clooney will be in Los Angeles, where Taylor Swift, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Christina Aguilera, Keith Urban, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Justin Timberlake are slated to perform.

And Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Coldplay will hit the stage in London, where Robert Pattinson will lend a helping hand as well.

The site reports that Hudson “went off on the escort,” and says a so-called insider, “[Jennifer] pulled out her phone and made the man tell her fiance [David Otonga] what had happen (sic) and demanded an apology from the man.”

“It’s not clear what Jennifer’s next steps will be,” notes the site, “but the insider tells MediaTakeOut.com that there is some kind of investigation at the airport.” 

Wow! That’s horrible.

Fortunately, it NEVER happened.

Hudson’s rep tells Gossip Cop the MediaTakeOut story is “erroneous,” and that with the four bodyguards who travel with Hudson, “no one gets that close to her.”

Once again, an “MTO World Exclusive” that – thankfully this time – was exclusively wrong.

Star magazine announced that, just four months after giving birth to her son, David, Jennifer Hudson and fiance David Otunga “are adding to to their family.”

The tabloid quotes an unnamed (and unreliable) “friend” as saying, “Jennifer was in total shock when she found out she was having another baby.”

In shock indeed. Because, despite the magazine reporting, “It’s another thing for them to celebrate during the holidays,” Hudson is NOT pregnant.

Her rep Lisa Kasteler issued the following statement to Gossip Cop: ”Contrary to what has been falsely reported, Jennifer Hudson is not pregnant. Jennifer leaves in April for South Africa where she will portray Winnie Mandela in the feature film, ‘Winnie.’  It is a commitment she is excited about and takes very seriously. Jennifer is currently in the studio recording her second album and this is the only delivery she is looking forward to in 2010.”

Once again, another fabrication from the fertile minds at the Star.
