Oz the Great and Powerful Debuts to Massive $80 Million Opening Weekend

BOX OFFICEOz the Great and Powerful dominated the weekend box office, scoring the third-biggest March domestic opening in history.
The pseudo-prequel to The Wizard of Oz, starring James Franco, earned approximately $80.3 million in its debut, giving the fantasy-adventure a gigantic win over the field.
Last weekend’s champ, Jack the Giant Slayer, slid to the #2 spot with $10 million, while the Jason Bateman-Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief continued to do solid business with $6.3 million in its fifth week of release.
