Kurt Russell will reportedly replace Kevin Costner as one of the bad guys in Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino‘s star-studded project about a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) coming to rescue his wife from a plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Russell’s sadistic character oversees the plantation.

Tarantino vet Samuel L. Jackson is also slated for the movie (as the head slave), and so is the director’s Inglorious Basterds star, Christoph Waltz, who will play the bounty hunter who teams up with Foxx.

Russell’s previous movie role was as the lead in Tarantino’s Grindhouse half, “Death Proof.”

Production on Django Unchained is slated to start next month.

Will Smith is reportedly the frontrunner to star in Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming movie about a slave in the Old South searching for his wife.

The “spaghetti Western” would team the title character with a German bounty hunter, expected to be played by Christoph Waltz, as they look for Django’s wife and attempt to take down a plantation owner.

No official offer has been made, but Tarantino wants Smith for the role, according to THR.

Samuel L. Jackson is also being lined up for a part in the movie, Tarantino’s first since Inglourious Basterds. Filming would begin in the fall.

“Peaches Geldof is to wed for the second time – aged 21 – after a whirlwind romance with horror movie director Eli Roth,” reads a piece in The Sun about the British socialite and the Hostel filmmaker.

Roth, who also starred in Inglourious Basterds, is supposedly planning a January rooftop wedding, where he and Geldof will have “a Jewish ceremony in front of 50 guests” including Basterds director, Quentin Tarantino.

Squeals a so-called pal, “They are trying to keep it secret – I don’t know if Peaches’ dad knows yet.”

Oy.

Forget her dad – someone should first inform Peaches and Roth.

The two are not getting married.

A rep for Roth tells Gossip Cop the wedding claim “isn’t true,” and Roth himself adds that he “had no idea” he was even engaged.

Mazel tov to The Sun for yet another wrong story.

A week ago, the tabs were abuzz (again) with talk that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were breaking up. And if you recall, Gossip Cop was ahead of the curve, calling those rumors “bullsplit.”

For those still questioning whether they are or aren’t together, here are some notes from friends of ours who saw the couple last night at the Director’s Guild of America Awards, held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

According to one Gossip Cop pal, “They were smiling, happy and seemed to be enjoying a night out together.” That same source says, “They shared a few private jokes… Angelina laughed a number of times after Brad whispered stuff in her ear.”

Another onlooker tells Gossip Cop that Pitt, who was at the awards to introduce his “Inglourious Basterds” director, Quentin Tarantino, “kept his hand – a few times- on the small of [Angelina's] back. It was sweet.”

Hopefully, the media will remain sweet to them as well for the time being.

You CAN judge a magazine by its cover.

Take this week’s Star, which features Brad Pitt and a teary-eyed Angelina Jolie above a headline that screams, “The Fight To End All Fights!”

The tabloid alleges that the “their biggest fight ever” took place on November 15 in their Los Angeles home, where they reportedly battled over Thanksgiving Day plans.

Wow, the Star got photos of Pitt and Jolie after a major argument that culminated in tears?

No.

The picture (above right) of Pitt looking pensive was taken while the actor was promoting “Inglourious Basterds” two months before — on September 18 — at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.

But the Star did capture Jolie crying after the fight, right?

No.

The photo of a sobbing Jolie was taken on June 20, 2003 — SIX YEARS AGO — when the Oscar-winning actress, a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, was moved to tears during a World Refugee Day ceremony in Washington, DC.

The only sad thing here is how the Star has tried to dupe its readers.

What’s interesting to note is that, at the same time Star was sending this cover off to be published, Pitt and Jolie were photographed holding hands as they left the Beverly Hills restaurant La Dolce Vita.

At yesterday’s red carpet for the opening of “Inglourious Basterds” in Spain, it wasn’t just Brad Pitt’s famous mug that drew a lot of attention. Rather, while Pitt worked the 57^th San Sebastian Film Festival, the focus shifted from the Sexiest Man Alive’s face to his shoes. You see, Pitt stepped out in some fancy footwear – a pair of monogrammed shoes with his initials “BP” stitched into them with gold thread.

Pitt is hardly the type to flaunt himself, so it was a tad odd that he would wear his own initials on his shoes. But, as Just Jared accurately reported, the shoes were a gift from his assistant, and the grateful star wanted to put his staffer’s present to good use.

No way his employees can call him a heel.
