Earlier today, a number of outlets reported that Ricky Gervais, who caused a stir with his controversial jokes at the Golden Globes, had been asked to consider hosting the awards show again.

That’s because Gervais wrote in a piece for Heat magazine, “The ratings went up again, and the organisers asked me to consider a third year. I don’t think I should. I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure.”

Well, the ratings did go up and he probably couldn’t garner more press, but he was never asked to consider hosting for a third time.

Philip Berk, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (the group responsible for putting on the Golden Globes), denies asking Gervais back.

In a statement sent to Gossip Cop, Berk says flat out, “There is no truth to this rumor. We have not asked him to come back. Nice try, Ricky.”

Previously, Berk said some of Gervais’s jokes during his opening monologue “definitely crossed the line” and were “totally unacceptable.”

Outlets that are laughed at as often as Heat magazine really should be careful with sarcasm.

The tabloid’s website takes a shot at Kristen Stewart today with a post that treats her smiles on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” as “breaking news.”

“The notoriously grumpy Twilight star is famous for looking a bit miserable,” sneers Heat, “so we’re quite surprised to see her looking so cheery.”

“In fact her grin is so big we think she might actually be laughing,” continues the site. “Yes, laughing. *Slaps both hands on face with shock*”

Zing!

Wow, what a slam!

But, uh, guess what would shock Gossip Cop?

If Heat magazine didn’t have to fabricate photographs of celebs like Robert Pattinson!

Ooh, or if the mag didn’t twist and manipulate Kelly Osbourne‘s words about weight gain!

We’d also have been “surprised” if Heat managed to write about Lady Gaga without creating an imaginary “baby food” diet for her or claiming she’s “desperate” to strip for Playboy.

But, no, this is Heat, which did do all of those things, as well as calling Stewart “miserable” and insisting she’s living a “nightmare,” without a shred of actual support.

So forgive us for being less than shocked with the outlet’s latest “joke” of an item.

Leave it to Life & Style to spread rumors as cold as Heat magazine’s.

One week after Heat started promoting the idea that Kristen Stewart fears Emma Watson is going after Robert Pattinson, the story is emerging in American tabloids.

“Should Kristen Be Worried?” asks the Life & Style headline.

The mag explains that Watson and Pattinson first met on a Harry Potter set in 2007, “and she’s reportedly never stopped longing for him.”

What, exactly, makes it evident that Watson “has her sights set on” Pattinson?

Well, Life & Style quotes her as saying that Pattinson is “incredibly handsome!”

Also, “as a Londoner living in the U.S.,” the magazine theorizes, Watson “has a lot in common with Rob.”

So because she finds Pattinson attractive and the two currently live in the same country, she’s in line to date him?

Um, should we point out that Brown University, where Watson attends school, is roughly 3000 miles from Los Angeles, where Pattinson resides?

“To make matters worse,” Life & Style continues, “Emma and Rob are set to star together in a steamy movie called Dark Arc, in which they’ll play two-thirds of a love triangle.”

Actually, that claim only makes this rumor worse — because Pattinson is not starring in Dark Arc.

Once again, Life & Style proves itself to be Late & Wrong.

The rumor mill just pumped out another gem of absurdity.

Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson are allegedly battling for Robert Pattinson.

“The storm between the two Hollywood leading ladies has been brewing for quite some time,” claims Metro, one of many outlets picking up this story from Heat magazine.

“Kristen can be very jealous and possessive, and in her mind Emma poses a threat,” a so-called “source” dishes to Heat.

And exactly what (cough) “evidence” is there for such a premise?

“Rob has commented before on how cute he thinks Emma is,” claims the tab’s source, and Stewart is nervous that Watson would “have more in common” with Pattinson, a fellow Brit.

What’s more, according to the magazine, Watson has tried to “belittle” Stewart with comments about the Twilight films “selling sex” in a way the Harry Potter franchise does not.

It’s like “she’s telling the world Kristen is a bimbo and she’s a real lady with poise and talent,” continues Heat.

Oh, please.

Earlier this month, the very same Heat ridiculously claimed that Stewart treated Pattinson like a “slave.” All of a sudden she’s petrified of losing him to Watson because of comments about the Twilight movies?

Or is it because she supposedly doesn’t “smile” enough, as Heat insisted in yet another hit piece on Stewart?

The tabloid’s spotty track record with the actress aside, the notion that Hermione Granger has targeted Bella Swan is pure Hogwarts.

Even Watson’s own rep tells Gossip Cop the claims are “completely fabricated and without any foundation whatsoever.”

Gossip Cop continues to be impressed by the way Heat shows wizardry in conjuring stories from thin air.

Heat magazine has a sterling track record when it comes to reporting on Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

After all, the tabloid once insisted that Stewart was living a miserable “nightmare” (not so much) and printed an “exclusive” photo of Pattinson sleeping on the Tube in London (oh, wait, that was faked).

Now Heat is exploring the pair’s relationship — and has concluded that Pattinson is more like Stewart’s “slave” than her boyfriend.

After a gratuitous dig at Stewart, whom the mag describes as “famed for her below average acting abilities,” Heat claims the actress “treats her hunky beau like an assistant, often sending him out to buy booze and food.”

On cue, a so-called “source” provides this gem of a quote: “She’s like, ‘I love Rob, but I love my dogs, too.’”

Weirdly, some sites picking up the rumor try to connect it with the notion that Pattinson is “possessive” of Stewart. Somehow, by supposedly treating Pattinson like a “servant,” Stewart breaks his hold on her.

Here’s what seems more likely: Outlets are replacing their debunked claims that Pattinson is controlling with equally lame assertions that Stewart is controlling.

Maybe Heat should “master” the fine art of accurate reporting before (badly) playing amateur relationship counselor.

According to Heat magazine, Rihanna and Chris Brown are in contact with each other.

Brown assaulted his ex-girlfriend in 2009, leading to 180 days of community labor and five years of probation. Under the terms of probation, he must stay at least 100 yards from her.

Now a so-called “source” tells Heat, in a story circulated by outlets such as Digital Spy, that Rihanna reached out to her abusive ex after seeing his emotional performance at the BET Awards.

“Rihanna felt like she could try to be friends with Chris again,” the tab claims. “Chris told her that he felt like he’s grown up in the past year. He’s said he’s so happy to be back in touch with her.”

The former couple “have reportedly text messaged one another since their telephone conversation, with a friend of Rihanna’s suggesting that she is keen for a face-to-face meeting,” the “source” adds.

Could Rihanna really be communicating with Brown so soon after her ordeal?

No. It’s just nonsense from Heat.

When asked about the rumor’s validity, a rep for Rihanna told Gossip Cop, it’s absolutely “not true.”

“Miley Cyrus Too Sexy For Her Boyfriend,” reads the headline of a post today from the site OceanUp, which takes its info from the equally questionable Heat magazine.

According to OceanUp (and Heat), Liam Hemsworth thinks his girlfriend “might be about to do a Britney Spears!”

The site even quotes a source telling Heat, “Liam tried to convince her that fans were originally drawn to her wholesome image and now she’s going more into the Britney Spears category. He’s afraid she’s going to end up like Britney.”

With a shaved head?

Under the conservatorship of her dad?

Really?

The piece goes on to say, “Liam doesn’t like the fact she wants to be seen as a ‘bad girl’ and a ‘sex symbol’. He thinks it’s fake.”

Here’s what’s “fake” – the reporting by Heat, which was regurgitated by OceanUp.

Gossip Cop investigated, and no one could substantiate OceanUp’s (and Heat’s) claims.

In fact, a Cyrus insider tells us nothing could be further from the truth, and that those around her, including Hemsworth, aren’t remotely concerned about her having a meltdown like Spears, who is doing well again.

Actually, the only connection to Spears is OceanUp’s “Toxic” reporting.

Lady Gaga pushes the limits, but is she really planning to bare it all?

A titillating rumor making the rounds today claims the performer “wants to pose for Playboy.”

Gaga is “desperate” to appear in the famed men’s mag, according to Heat, despite the protests of her friends.

“She’s been chatting with everyone about it all week,” alleges the tab. “She’s always been a fan of Hugh Hefner‘s, and his whole sex-as-art kind of thing.”

But while she’s not afraid to be an exhibitionist, the “Paparazzi” singer will not be stripping in front of the lens for Hefner.

A source in Gaga’s camp tells Gossip Cop a Playboy shoot isn’t going to happen.

No stranger to ridiculous rumors about her birth, Lady Gaga is now said to eat like an infant.

According to Heat magazine, the performer “has embarked on a dangerous ‘baby food diet’ in a bid to stay slim.”

The rag’s sources claim the pop superstar has been “living off baby food — which is not giving her enough energy to sustain grueling performances” and causing concern among her friends.

“She’s substituting meals for jars of baby food,” claims Heat in a story that’s managed to go wide.

Heat knows a thing or two about “substituting.” It’s what the magazine does when exchanging nonsense for facts.

The baby food rumor is, of course, “not true,” according to a rep for Lady Gaga.

She might be the most creative force in entertainment, but Gaga’s imagination is no match for the tabs’ fantasies.

Heat Magazine has three problems when it comes to Twilight stars.

You’ll recall that the tabloid once printed an “exclusive” snapshot of Robert Pattinson asleep on the Tube in London.

Pattinson was in Canada at the time.

Now comes a Heat hit piece on Kristen Stewart.

“Shy Kristen’s Fame ‘Nightmare’” screams the headline.

It seems “the stress of constantly being in the spotlight is turning her into a sullen and distant figure,” according to the tabloid. While in the UK to accept various honors in February, Stewart “looked miserable and embarrassed” one night, “detached” the next, reports Heat.

“It’s a shame that someone as talented and popular as Kristen finds her success such a nightmare to deal with,” murmurs the mag. “A smile really wouldn’t hurt, would it?”

The evidence? A headshot of Stewart looking… um, nonchalant? Regardless, Heat fails to mention when and where it was snapped.

(We’re guessing the Tube – ha!)

Attacks on Stewart for having the audacity to be “shy” are nothing new. In the past it’s been equated with being a “snobby” and “miserable” outcast. Or, when she supports a charity, sites take cheap jabs and say she “left all her angst at home.”

Anyway, thought Heat might want to take a look at the photo above. It’s Stewart living the “nightmare.”

Here’s a case of rotten journalism twisting a good message into something ugly.

In an interview with Us Weekly, newly svelte Kelly Osbourne talked about her battles with weight gain. “I took more hell for being fat than I did for being an absolute raging drug addict,” the Dancing with the Stars alum said. “I will never understand that.”

Again, Osbourne said that other people gave her more hell for being overweight than for substance addiction.

And she pointed out just how irrational and wrong that seemed to her.

But outlets like FoxNews.com completely misrepresent Osbourne’s message.

“Kelly Osbourne: Being Fat in Hollywood Worse Than Being on Drugs,” screams the site’s headline. The item goes on to report, “It’s better to be a drug addict than a fattie in Hollywood, says Kelly Osbourne.”

No. Not even close.

That is an entirely backwards reading of Osbourne’s comments.

A rep for Osbourne confirmed that sites were twisting what she (very clearly) said in the Us interview.

Osbourne herself tweeted outrage at Fox, saying “they should be ashamed of themselves” for the manipulation of her comments. Another site that she called out, Heatworld.com, appears to have adjusted the item to reflect what Osbourne actually said.

Gossip Cop hopes Fox and others will do the same.

For what seems like the 11,947th time, romantic rumors about Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler have returned, long after the two spent time — with many others — in Los Cabos, Mexico for Aniston’s birthday.

Breathing heavily, Showbiz Spy reports, ”Insiders say Jen and Gerard did more than just celebrate!”

Really?! What have they been up to?

“Amazing sex,” say Aniston’s so-called “pals.”

Uh huh.

The site cites a Heat Magazine source as saying the two “have great chemistry across the board — sexually and intellectually.”

Also brought up in the same piece, once again, is that the two are faking a relationship to publicize their new movie, The Bounty Hunter.

Gossip Cop will say what we’ve said from the start, and which nothing has changed…

Aniston and Butler are friends.

That’s it.

There’s no conspiracy to drum up business for the movie with a fake romance because there is no fake romance.

Here’s a question: If Butler and Aniston had such “amazing” sexual chemistry in Mexico, why is it that none of the paparazzi photos show them within five feet of each other?

Robert Pattinson apparently has superpowers even vampire Edward Cullen would envy.

Heat magazine blew hot air with an “exclusive” photo purporting to show the “Twilight” megastar resting on the Tube (subway) in Britain. “Public transport’s Number One fan,” as they called him, was allegedly spied “snoozing on a train to Paddington station.” He was also supposedly spotted “looking fit” on the Bakerloo line.

This one sent Gossip Cop scrambling for a map. Does the Bakerloo line run all the way from Britain to British Columbia? Because that’s where Pattinson’s been “in the past week,” when Heat places him catching some Z’s beneath London. Maybe all that teleporting left Pattinson exhausted?

Sigh.

You know, it’s bad enough that the paparazzi hound Pattinson in the places where he actually is. Now magazines apparently feel the need to invent fake private moments to invade. Classy.
