Daniel Radcliffe is “slightly miffed” that Harry Potter was shut out of the Academy Awards race.

“I don’t think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids’ films, unless they’re directed by Martin Scorsese,” he told Radio Times, adding, “I was watching Hugo the other day and going, ‘Why is this nominated and we’re not?’”

He explains, “There’s a certain amount of snobbery.”

Radcliffe does stress, however, that it’s not as though the Harry Potter didn’t pay off in every way besides an Academy Award.

“How much of a pat on the back do we really need? We get paid stupid amounts of money,” emphasizes the star.

Still, the Oscars snub is “kind of disheartening,” admits Radcliffe.

While the Harry Potter series earned multiple nominations in technical categories over the past 10 years, it never picked up nods in the major categories – acting, writing or directing.

This year’s final installment (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2) was not among the Best Picture nominees.

Daniel Radcliffe, who admitted last summer that he’s spent years secretly struggling with an alcohol addiction, has now revealed there were times he filmed the Harry Potter franchise while drunk.

“I can point to many scenes where I’m just gone. Dead behind the eyes,” he says in an interview in the new issue of Heat.

Radcliffe clarified that while he never drank on set, he did go “into work still drunk.”

The actor, who’s been busy promoting his new movie The Woman In Black, further told ShortList that drinking turned him into a “rude bore” who often drank until he blacked out.

“For a long time people were saying to me, ‘We think you have a problem,’ but in the end I had to come to the realization myself,” Radcliffe explains.

The movie star has been sober since August 2010.

He also reveals that he contemplated quitting Harry Potter after filming the series’ third movie.

“It was only for a second, but I thought, ‘If I do the fourth, I’ll have to do them all,’ and that seemed quite daunting,” he tells ShortList.

He adds, “If I was going to leave, that would have been the perfect time because it would have given whoever came in to play Harry enough films to establish himself properly. It wouldn’t have totally dumped him in the sh-t.”

So what stopped him from following through?

Radcliffe explains, “But then I started thinking, ‘What other good parts are there for 15-year-olds? None.’”

In a sketch called “Hogwarts Castle 2020,” new students arrive for orientation, only to be greeted by an unemployed Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), who hasn’t really left the hallowed halls since graduating 10 years earlier.

He tells the new students, “These are going to be the best days of your lives,” adding wistfully, “It does not get better.”

Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley are also still around, but they’re now working as professors at Hogswarts.

There are other cameos, too, by professors MacGonagall and Snape, as well as an appearance by Rubeus Hagrid, who’s married former student Luna Lovegood.

Draco Malfoy is back, but to drop off his daughter, who’s a new student. He mentions his family saw Potter playing Quidditch… alone — and cheering for himself.

Jamie Waylett, who played bully Vincent Crabbe in the Harry Potter movies, was arrested on charges including possession of a bomb he allegedly intended to use in the London riots.

He’s been charged under the Criminal Damage Act for reportedly arming himself with a homemade “petrol bomb” while looting a north London store on August 8.

Authorities have been combing through tens of thousands of hours of security footage to identify rioters suspected of violence and property damage from this past summer’s civil unrest.

Waylett was arrested on September 20 and released from custody after an initial court appearance.

He’s slated to have a committal hearing on November 10.

Police also reportedly found 15 marijuana plants in Waylett’s residence. He was arrested in 2009 for illegal production of cannabis, for which he was given 120 hours of community service.

Waylett appeared as Crabbe in the first six Potter films.

“Emma Watson is caught in a downward spiral of partying because she’s so distraught over the end of the Harry Potter franchise,” reports Star magazine.

The mag says Watson was celebrating after the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows: Part 2 on July 7, and quotes a supposed “insider” as saying, “Emma was out of control. She was dancing rowdily one minute and then sobbing on a crew member’s shoulder the next.”

The so-called “source” explains, “The end of Harry Potter is having an effect on her. She always knew she would have to face this one day, which is why she enrolled at Brown University,” adding, “Unfortunately, the prospect of getting a college education isn’t helping her anxiety.”

The tabloid also says Watson “made a big scene when she appeared on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman‘ on July 11.”

“It made for really uncomfortable viewing,” says the alleged “insider,” noting, “All [Letterman] did was ask her if she ever drank, and she laughed like a hyena and then admitted that one time she had gotten drunk.”

The source adds, “Everyone’s worried she’s having a meltdown” because she fears “no one will cast her in another role.”

Hold up.

Watson has already been cast in another role – she’s starring in The Perks of Being a Wallflower - which Star would know had it paid attention.

And in no way did she “make a scene” on Letterman. She was charming and humble, and said she wasn’t much of a party animal and had only been drunk once.

Also, Watson enrolled at Brown because she wanted an education and “loves studying pretty much more than anything,” as she’s said in the past.

Everything in the story is entirely made up and FALSE.

Watson’s rep confirms to Gossip Cop, ”This is a ridiculous story and in no way true.”

Once again, it’s Star that’s “having a meltdown.”

Harry Potter has officially passed Star Wars to become the highest grossing movie franchise in domestic box office history.

The film’s final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, has been crushing box office records since its release last weekend, earning $214.9 million in only six days.

Altogether, the eight movies have grossed $2.223 billion from releases, beating out Star Wars‘ $2.217 billion total.

The film franchises are currently the only two series to surpass the $2 billion mark.

Emma Watson will return to Brown University next year to complete her degree.

The Harry Potter star will enroll at Oxford University in the fall for a semester abroad, and will then head back to Brown in 2012 to finish her studies.

Watson left the school earlier this year to devote her time to the last Harry Potter film and other professional opportunities, and not because of reported bullying.

The star’s next movie is The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which she filmed this summer in Pittsburgh.

“Big Brother” housemate Jeff Schroeder ranted last night that Harry Potter character Dumbledore shouldn’t be allowed near children because he’s homosexual.

“He’s in a school with little kids, you can’t make that guy gay!” Schroeder yelled at fellow cast member Kalia Booker after Dumbledore’s sexuality came up.

He continued, “It isn’t right to have it in a little kids book, and have the headmaster locked away in this magical land [be] gay. That isn’t the right kind of writing to do.”

Booker replied, “Why? Gay men can’t work with little kids?”

The heated exchange was seen during a live Internet feed from the house.

Emma Watson got teary-eyed last night at the premiere of the final Harry Potter movie in London.

Watson, who’s starred in the films with Daniel Radcliffe for the past ten years, told him, “You were and are the perfect Harry, and will be forever.”

Radcliffe then rushes up and embraces his co-star.

Emma Watson is fed up with the rumors that she was bullied out of Brown University.

A week after Gossip Cop first debunked the inaccurate report, Watson has addressed it directly in a message on her official site.

“I felt the need to let you all know the reason I took a semester off from Brown had nothing to do with bullying as the media have been suggesting recently,” writes the star.

Many outlets buzzed that harassment from fellow students forced Watson to leave.

She shoots down those rumors.

“I have never been bullied in my life and certainly never at Brown. This ‘10 points to Gryffindor’ incident never even happened. I feel the need to say this because accusing Brown students of something as serious as bullying and this causing me to leave seems beyond unfair.”

“Please don’t try and speculate about what I might do in September – no one can possibly know because I don’t even know yet!”

“Like my other fellow Brown students I am trying to figure out my third year and whether or not I will spend it abroad (this is common).”

“I hope you all liked the new Harry Potter trailer. I am off to Pittsbugh soon to start The Perks of being a Wallflower. I’ve just got back from hanging out with Stephen Chobosky (the director and writer), Logan and Ezra (the two other principal actors) and I already know this is going to be an incredible experience. I feel very lucky.”

Hopefully this puts to rest the bullying rumor once and for all.

Was Emma Watson really bullied out of Brown University?

Last month, the actress announced she’d be taking a break from her studies to have time for professional commitments.

But outlets like the New York Daily News are spreading a rumor that harassment from other students may have forced Watson from school; specifically, that the Harry Potter star’s “brainy ways may have led to her classmates’ heckling.”

According to a so-called “insider” for the paper, Watson would be mocked with incessant, snide Potter references when she participated in class.

There were also reports of Watson being heckled while attending a Brown-Harvard football game and otherwise being harassed about her fame.

So did her peers’ comments actually chase Watson from college?

Not at all.

A rep for Watson tells Gossip Cop the story is completely false.

“There isn’t a grain of truth in it,” we’re told.

Watson “absolutely loved her time at Brown and made lots of great friends,” only leaving because she’s decided “to pursue a different course which sadly Brown does not offer.”

She will transfer to a new school for the fall.

Emma Watson is the new face of Lancôme.

The Harry Potter star revealed the news herself today on Twitter, after dropping a series of riddle-like clues about her “new venture.”

An announcement from the French cosmetics giant made it official.

“Thanks to her charm, romanticism and her incredible modernity, Emma Watson has become the icon of her generation,” explained the company in a press statement, adding that Watson “brings a fresh spirit” to Lancôme.

As an “ambassadress” for the brand, Watson follows stars including Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz and Anne Hathaway.

Last week, the actress announced she was taking a break from her studies at Brown University.

“As you know, I love Brown and I love studying pretty much more than anything,” writes the actress, “but recently I’ve had so much to juggle that being a student AND fulfilling my other commitments has become a little impossible.”

“I’ve decided to take a bit of time off to completely finish my work on Harry Potter (the last one comes out this summer) and to focus on my other professional and acting projects.”

“I will still be working towards my degree,” adds Watson. “It’s just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought.”

In addition to finishing off the blockbuster Potter series, Watson is attached to other upcoming film roles and is involved in several fashion projects.

She entered Brown in fall 2009.

Emma Watson will star in the long-anticipated film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

The Harry Potter star just tweeted, “Hi all, just wanted to tell you that for once a story in the papers is true! I’m filming Perks of Being a Wallflower this summer. Can’t wait!”

Watson will play Sam, the close friend and love interest of the main character Charlie (played by Logan Lerman), a naive 15-year-old coping with the suicide of his best friend and the adolescent struggle of trying to fit in.

Stephen Chbosky, author of the 1999 coming-of-age classic, is adapting and directing the film.

The studio behind the Harry Potter series has scrapped the new movie’s planned 3D release.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 will hit theaters only in two dimensions on November 19, both in regular theaters and IMAX facilities.

“We will not have a completed 3D version of the film within our release date window,” Warner Bros. announced on Friday.

“Despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality,” it continues. “We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey.”

“This decision, which we completely support, underscores the fact that Warner Bros. has always put quality first,” says director David Yates.

The studio still plans to have the second installment of Deathly Hallows prepared in both 2D and 3D formats for a July 2011 release.

Leave it to Life & Style to spread rumors as cold as Heat magazine’s.

One week after Heat started promoting the idea that Kristen Stewart fears Emma Watson is going after Robert Pattinson, the story is emerging in American tabloids.

“Should Kristen Be Worried?” asks the Life & Style headline.

The mag explains that Watson and Pattinson first met on a Harry Potter set in 2007, “and she’s reportedly never stopped longing for him.”

What, exactly, makes it evident that Watson “has her sights set on” Pattinson?

Well, Life & Style quotes her as saying that Pattinson is “incredibly handsome!”

Also, “as a Londoner living in the U.S.,” the magazine theorizes, Watson “has a lot in common with Rob.”

So because she finds Pattinson attractive and the two currently live in the same country, she’s in line to date him?

Um, should we point out that Brown University, where Watson attends school, is roughly 3000 miles from Los Angeles, where Pattinson resides?

“To make matters worse,” Life & Style continues, “Emma and Rob are set to star together in a steamy movie called Dark Arc, in which they’ll play two-thirds of a love triangle.”

Actually, that claim only makes this rumor worse — because Pattinson is not starring in Dark Arc.

Once again, Life & Style proves itself to be Late & Wrong.

The rumor mill just pumped out another gem of absurdity.

Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson are allegedly battling for Robert Pattinson.

“The storm between the two Hollywood leading ladies has been brewing for quite some time,” claims Metro, one of many outlets picking up this story from Heat magazine.

“Kristen can be very jealous and possessive, and in her mind Emma poses a threat,” a so-called “source” dishes to Heat.

And exactly what (cough) “evidence” is there for such a premise?

“Rob has commented before on how cute he thinks Emma is,” claims the tab’s source, and Stewart is nervous that Watson would “have more in common” with Pattinson, a fellow Brit.

What’s more, according to the magazine, Watson has tried to “belittle” Stewart with comments about the Twilight films “selling sex” in a way the Harry Potter franchise does not.

It’s like “she’s telling the world Kristen is a bimbo and she’s a real lady with poise and talent,” continues Heat.

Oh, please.

Earlier this month, the very same Heat ridiculously claimed that Stewart treated Pattinson like a “slave.” All of a sudden she’s petrified of losing him to Watson because of comments about the Twilight movies?

Or is it because she supposedly doesn’t “smile” enough, as Heat insisted in yet another hit piece on Stewart?

The tabloid’s spotty track record with the actress aside, the notion that Hermione Granger has targeted Bella Swan is pure Hogwarts.

Even Watson’s own rep tells Gossip Cop the claims are “completely fabricated and without any foundation whatsoever.”

According to the paper, Watson’s new pixie cut is no simple style switch. It’s allegedly part of her strategy to win the Salander competition.

“Emma has auditioned with director David Fincher and cut her hair to look the part,” says the Sun‘s “movie insider,” since the film’s title character is a “misfit goth-type girl with spikey hair.”

So is it true that the woman who grew up as the proper Hermione Granger got the new ‘do to play the Dragon franchise’s star?

No.

The rumor is “absolutely false on all accounts,” a rep for Watson tells Gossip Cop.

So ignore those reports of the actress ditching her hair to play the heroine.

Some outlets should know better than to try to make a wizard disappear.

A rumor that Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been dropped as the face of fashion house Burberry in favor of Transformers beauty Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is everywhere this morning.

Sky News reported that Watson had helped boost sales for the company over the course of their partnership, but was going to be “sidelined” for a future campaign. Soon enough, Parade.com and other major sites perpetuated the story that Watson was “canned.”

But Gossip Cop found out the Hogwarts heroine’s supposed ouster is hogwash.

Huntington-Whiteley’s rep tells us the actress-model’s involvement with Burberry is nothing new, and that she is not “replacing” Watson, who will remain with Burberry.

It looks like the only star for whom Huntington-Whiteley is a full-fledged substitute is Megan Fox.

Two juggernaut franchises are about to collide.

The new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will run in front of Eclipse when it opens on June 30, Warner Bros. has confirmed.

It will be a different trailer than the one seen during the MTV Movie Awards.

The footage will also be available online on Monday, June 28.

The first part of Deathly Hallows comes to cineplexes on November 19, with the final installment arriving on July 15, 2011.

The Sunday Times has published its annual “Rich List” to great fanfare, and it turns out the keys to early wealth are broomsticks and fangs.

Among the biggest earners under 30 in the United Kingdom are Harry Potter megastars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, while Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson enjoyed a pretty good year, too.

Movies and investments paid Radcliffe a shade under $40 million last year (after the wizard conjured “just” $400,000 or so for the first Potter film), and the Times estimates his current net worth at roughly $65 million.

His co-stars Watson ($34 million) and Grint ($31 million) also have enough saved for a few rainy days.

Crashing the list is Pattinson, whose Twilight-supercharged 2009 pushed his worth to approximately $20 million.

The Harry Potter star is set to star in a revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” opening in spring 2011.

Radcliffe previously starred on stage in a revival of the intense “Equus.”

“How to Succeed” first hit the stage in 1961, and was most recently revived on Broadway in 1995.

Gossip Cop would like to wish Stephenie Meyer, author of the “Twilight Saga,” a very happy birthday! Meyer is blowing out 36 candles today. And while Gossip Cop has blown out far more than 36 Twilight-related rumors, we thought we’d pick a few stories to share on Meyer’s big day, because, hey, it can’t be easy having a December 24 birthday!

Some are terrible, some are true, but all helped to make 2009 a huge – huge! – year for both Meyer and her blockbuster series.

** There was that Star story about director David Slade putting Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and other “Eclipse” cast members “on lockdown, demanding they return to their hotel rooms when shooting wraps!”

And why were the “Twilight” stars supposedly not allowed out past . . . twilight? Because they “were so busy partying, smoking and hooking up that they came to work looking like hell,” claimed a Star “insider.” Summit told Gossip Cop that the concept of a lockdown was “completely false.”

** How about those persistent stories that “Breaking Dawn” was going to begin production shortly? We said it wasn’t true, and people called us names. To date, there has been no official announcement about “Breaking Dawn.” (Don’t worry — it will happen.)

But why should Meyers only hear the negative? Today’s her birthday, and Gossip Cop was happy to announce a few presents that she received about five weeks early.

** The first was that “New Moon” broke the record for biggest midnight opening, beating “The Dark Knight” and the top “Harry Potter” franchise performer.

** Shortly after that we were also able to deliver the news that “New Moon” set the record for the biggest (non-summer) weekend box office.

All in all, not a bad year!
