Daniel Radcliffe is “slightly miffed” that Harry Potter was shut out of the Academy Awards race.

“I don’t think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids’ films, unless they’re directed by Martin Scorsese,” he told Radio Times, adding, “I was watching Hugo the other day and going, ‘Why is this nominated and we’re not?’”

He explains, “There’s a certain amount of snobbery.”

Radcliffe does stress, however, that it’s not as though the Harry Potter didn’t pay off in every way besides an Academy Award.

“How much of a pat on the back do we really need? We get paid stupid amounts of money,” emphasizes the star.

Still, the Oscars snub is “kind of disheartening,” admits Radcliffe.

While the Harry Potter series earned multiple nominations in technical categories over the past 10 years, it never picked up nods in the major categories – acting, writing or directing.

This year’s final installment (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2) was not among the Best Picture nominees.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 passed $1 billion at the worldwide box office on Sunday, a first for history’s most successful film franchise.

2001′s original, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, came closest to the milestone, with a final tally of $974.8 million. Adjusted for inflation, it’s still the record-holder.

But Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint‘s current hit is now racing up the all-time list.

The eighth and final Potter movie has now earned $318 million in North America and $690 million overseas, passing The Dark Knight for 8th on the all-time worldwide box office chart and passing Transformers: Dark of the Moon to become the year’s second-highest grossing movie.

It should wind up topping 2011′s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which is currently at $1.033 billion worldwide.

Despite its incredible success, Deathly Hallows will need serious magic to become history’s all-time champ.

That title still goes to Avatar, which earned a staggering $2.78 billion across all markets two years ago.

The Smurfs has tied Cowboys & Aliens for first place in a weekend box office upset.

The official winner won’t be declared until tomorrow morning.

Those little blue animated buggers and the Daniel Craig-Harrison Ford sci-fi western both banked $36.2 million.

Coming in third was Captain America: The First Avenger with $24.9 million.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Crazy, Stupid, Love took fourth and fifth places with $21.9 million and $19.3 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Friends With Benefits ($9.3 million), Horrible Bosses ($7.1 million), Transformers 3 ($5.9 million), Zookeeper ($4.2 million), and Cars 2 ($2.3 million).

There’s a lot of green for the red, white and blue.

Captain America: The First Avenger took the number one spot at the box office this weekend, with a haul of $65.8 million.

That puts the Chris Evans vehicle on track to be the summer’s biggest superhero movie.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, meanwhile, fell to second after its record-setting debut last week.

As Gossip Cop reported, the boy wizard series became the highest-earning in film history, passing the Star Wars saga. This weekend, Potter added another $48 million to its total.

The Justin Timberlake-Mila Kunis comedy Friends With Benefits opened in a distant third place with $18.5 million in ticket sales.

Transformers 3 and Horrible Bosses came in fourth and fifth with $12 million and $11.5 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Zookeeper ($8.7 million), Cars 2 ($6.5 million), Winnie The Pooh ($5.5 million), Bad Teacher ($2.5 million), and Midnight In Paris ($2 million).

In a fitting finale, Harry Potter’s magic is making box office records disappear.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 made $168.6 million in its opening weekend, which was the biggest Friday-Sunday in movie history. The Dark Knight earned $158.4 million in its debut.

The staggering sum comes after Harry made nearly $100 million on its first day, which is just plain ridiculous.

To put the wizardry in perspective, the movie earned roughly eight times what (second place) Transformers: Dark of the Moon – the year’s biggest movie – banked this weekend ($21.2 million).

The comedies Horrible Bosses ($17.5 million) and Zookeeper ($12.5 million) finished in third and fourth places, with $17.5 million and $12.5 million, respectively.

Coming in fifth was Cars 2, which made $8.3 million.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Winnie the Pooh ($8 million), Cameron Diaz‘s Bad Teacher ($5.2 million), Tom Hanks‘ Larry Crowne ($2.8 million), Woody Allen‘s Midnight in Paris ($1.9 million), and Super 8 (1.8 million).

Daniel Radcliffe revealed that he was so concerned about his years of boozing that he gave it up entirely.

The actor says in the August issue of GQ that when he was filming Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, at the age of 18, he became “reliant” on  alcohol.

“There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me,” acknowledges Radcliffe.

He notes how he was lucky to not be caught by the paparazzi while drunk.

“I really got away with that because there were many instances when a shot like that could have been taken,” say Radcliffe.

The Harry Potter star hasn’t had an ounce of alcohol since last August, and wouldn’t even think of having a drink or two at a party.

“I do that very  unsuccessfully. I’d just rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh… There’s no shame in enjoying the quiet life.”

Radcliffe’s last Potter film, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II opens in a week and a half.

Leading the pack this holiday weekend was Little Fockers.

Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro‘s latest family dysfunction farce earned $34 million, beating out two Jeff Bridges movies for #1.

Bridges’ True Grit took second place with $25.6 million, followed by his film, TRON: Legacy, which secured third with $20.1 million.

Fourth place went to The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader with a take of $10.8 million, while Yogi Bear came in fifth with $8.8 million in ticket sales.

Rounding out the Top Ten were The Fighter ($8.5 million), Gulliver’s Travels ($7.2 million), Black Swan ($6.6 million), Tangled ($6.5 million) and The Tourist ($5.7 million).

In a battle of 3D nostalgia trips, TRON: Legacy easily beat Yogi Bear for the top spot at this weekend’s box office.

The tech-heavy TRON sequel, featuring original star Jeff Bridges alongside Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, had a weekend take of $43.6 million.

Meanwhile, Yogi (voiced by Dan Aykroyd) and his CGI misadventures at Jellystone Park with sidekick Boo-Boo (Justin Timberlake) debuted at a distant second with $16.7 million in ticket receipts.

Coming in third was The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader with $12.4 million, followed by The Fighter with $12.2 million.

The Tourist took fifth place with $8.7 million, just edging out Tangled ($8.68 million).

Next was Natalie Portman‘s ballerina thriller Black Swan with $8.3 million, and then How Do You Know, starring Reese Witherspoon, with $7.6 million.

Finishing in ninth and tenth place, respectively, were Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ($4.8 million) and Unstoppable ($1.8 million).

The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader - the third film in the epic fantasy series – travels easily to the top of this weekend’s box office.

Meanwhile, The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, ends up having a less good trip to theaters.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of Dawn Treader takes the top spot with $24.5 million, followed in second place by The Tourist with $17 million.

Last week’s winner, Tangled, comes in third with $14.6 million.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows takes fourth place with $8.4 million, while Unstoppable brings in another $3.8 million.

Tangled won the weekend box office, pulling in $21.5 million in box office receipts, compared to Harry Potter, which made a respectable $16.7 million.

Coming in a distant third for a tie are Unstoppable and Burlesque with $6.1 million each.

Love and Other Drugs took fifth place with $5.7 million.

Rounding out the Top Ten are Megamind ($5 million), Due Date ($4.2 million), Faster ($3.8 million), The Warrior’s Way ($3.1 million), and The Next Three Days ($2.7million).

Natalie Portman‘s ballet psychodrama Black Swan opened strongly with a very limited release, earning $1.4 million in only 18 theaters.

Moviegoers gobbled up tickets this Thanksgiving weekend as new releases entered a crowded field.

But the boy wizard from Hogwarts proved once again that he’s no turkey.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows earned $78 million over the five-day holiday period, enough to again claim this week’s top spot.

Since it was released, the film has made $220.4 million.

The animated Disney movie Tangled 3D debuted very impressively, nabbing second place with a five-day holiday weekend take of $68.5 million.

Coming in third was Megamind 3D. The family-friendly movie had a five-day haul of $17.5 million.

Unstoppable, with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, plowed its way to fourth place with $16 million for the extended weekend, while new release Burlesque, starring Christina Aguilera and Cher, sashayed into fifth place with $15.7 million.

Rounding out the Top Ten are Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal‘s romantic comedy Love and Other Drugs ($13.8 million), Dwayne Johnson‘s action flick Faster ($11.8 million), Due Date ($10.4 million), The Next Three Days ($6.5 million), and Morning Glory ($4.6 million).

The end has begun… and it is HUGE.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, the second-to-last movie in a magical series that has steamrolled the competition for a decade, showed that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint still have special box office wizardry.

The film earned a mind-boggling $125.1 million this weekend, easily nabbing the #1 spot at the box office.

Megamind, last week’s leader, took second place with $16.2 million, and Unstoppable came in third with $13.1 million.

Due Date took fourth place with $9.2 million, and in the fifth spot, with approximately $6.8 million, was The Next Three Days, the newly released thriller starring Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks.

It looks like the cast of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows just tried to lull Justin Bieber into a false sense of security with their flattery earlier this week.

Because as Jimmy Kimmel explains, Bieber is actually Potter’s greatest foe.

Harry Potter mania has swept the world, and even Conan O’Brien‘s studio audience isn’t safe.

O’Brien was halfway through his opening monologue when a very enthusiastic Hogwarts wannabe caught his eye — and O’Brien just couldn’t continue without addressing it.

What followed was a rarity in late-night TV — a break from the monologue as attention swung from the host to the 26-year-old fan that had cast a spell over him.

The trailer for Red Riding Hood, directed by Twilight‘s Catherine Hardwicke and starring Amanda Seyfriend, Gary Oldman and Lukas Haas, has been released.

Seyfried stars as Valerie, caught in a love triangle complicated by demons and werewolves.

It will reportedly run before screenings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The movie hits theaters in March 2011.

Rhys Ifans will star as a villain in the new Spider-man movie, Gossip Cop can confirm.

He’s set to star as Dr. Curt Connors, also known as The Lizard, reports The Wrap.

Ifans, known to American audiences for movies like Notting Hill and the recent Nanny McPhee Returns, will also appear in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

The Social Network star Andrew Garfield is set to play Spidey in the rebooted franchise, while Emma Stone has been cast as love interest Gwen Stacy.

The film is due in theaters in 2012.

The studio behind the Harry Potter series has scrapped the new movie’s planned 3D release.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 will hit theaters only in two dimensions on November 19, both in regular theaters and IMAX facilities.

“We will not have a completed 3D version of the film within our release date window,” Warner Bros. announced on Friday.

“Despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality,” it continues. “We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey.”

“This decision, which we completely support, underscores the fact that Warner Bros. has always put quality first,” says director David Yates.

The studio still plans to have the second installment of Deathly Hallows prepared in both 2D and 3D formats for a July 2011 release.

Two juggernaut franchises are about to collide.

The new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will run in front of Eclipse when it opens on June 30, Warner Bros. has confirmed.

It will be a different trailer than the one seen during the MTV Movie Awards.

The footage will also be available online on Monday, June 28.

The first part of Deathly Hallows comes to cineplexes on November 19, with the final installment arriving on July 15, 2011.

Since “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will be split into two parts, does that mean Gossip Cop has to bust each wrong rumor about it twice?

Weeks ago speculation swirled that star Daniel Radcliffe would be getting naked in the “Deathly Hallows,” but Gossip Cop investigated and found out all talk of a Bare-y Potter was “complete fabrication.”

Now British OK! magazine has upped the ante, claiming Radcliffe will be nude twice in the next film, set to “shock fans” not only with a previously reported fantasy sequence, but also “in a later scene following a brush with death.” “There are a couple of scenes in the new film in which he will undress,” director David Yates is quoted as saying about the boy wizard, “But we’re still thinking about how we present it.”

Gossip Cop is asking sources for more details, but one thing we can guarantee is that filmmakers plan to “present” any scenes of Radcliffe in a way no different than any other ‘PG’ fare. Audiences may see the actor in various states of undress – but claims he’ll “bare all,” as OK! reports, weren’t true a month ago… and they aren’t true now.

Are audiences next year going to see Harry Potter as they’ve never seen him before?

In a naked bid to stir excitement, gossip sites such as Celebuzz and others are flush with rumors Daniel Radcliffe will appear nude in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.”

The “information” apparently comes out of an interview director David Yates did with magazine Sorrisi e Canzoni. Brazilian fansite Oclumencia reports, “Daniel Radcliffe appears naked in one scene where Harry and Ron are fighting a magical creature.”

Granted, just because Radcliffe bravely went nude in the play “Equus,” it doesn’t mean his Potter will follow (birthday) suit.

So for anyone put off by the thought the wizard will take it off on the big screen – don’t worry. Radcliffe’s rep tells Gossip Cop rumors of a bare Harry are “complete fabrication.”
