BOX OFFICE

UPDATE: 3/21/2010

It looks like early projections for the weekend box office will hold.

Numbers are not yet final, but Alice in Wonderland should win with (roughly) $33 million.

Johnny Depp and elevated 3D ticket prices have powered Tim Burton’s Alice to the #1 spot in each of its three weeks.

BOX OFFICE

We already reported on the weekend box office today, but there’s a glaring mistake in media accounts that needs to be addressed.

Alice in Wonderland, of course, dominated the weekend again, making it the clear #1. It’s been a remarkable two weeks for the Johnny Depp 3D extravaganza.

Green Zone, She’s Out of My League, and Remember Me are bundled rather tightly in second, third, and fourth place.

BUT… there’s a discrepancy.

BOX OFFICE

“Alice” is still queen of the box office.

The Tim Burton and Johnny Depp version of Alice in Wonderland is the #1 movie for the second straight weekend, rolling up $62 million in ticket sales. It’s become the first $200 million release of 2010.

Green Zone with Matt Damon finishes #2 with $14.5 million, and the mismatch romantic comedy She’s Out of My League rounds out the top three with $9.6 million.

BOX OFFICE

The first weekend box office estimates are trickling in, and it appears the Alice in Wonderland bonanza will continue.

Projections place last week’s champ atop the chart again with roughly $60 million in its second week of release, which would push it past the $200 million mark overall.

Remember Me ($9.5 million) is estimated to finish a close fourth behind fellow debuts Green Zone ($15 million) and She’s Out of My League ($10 million).
