Those apes don’t monkey around!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, starring James Franco and Freida Pinto, exceeded expectations at the box office and raked in $54 million.

The Smurfs took second with $21 million, while Cowboys & Aliens nabbed third place with $15.8 million.

The heavily hyped Ryan Reynolds-Jason Bateman starrer, The Change-Up, and Captain America: The First Avenger, secured the fourth and fifth spots with $14 million and $13.5 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top Ten were box office behemoth Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($12.5 million), Crazy, Stupid, Love ($12.3 million), Friends with Benefits ($5 million), Horrible Bosses ($4.8 million), and Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($3.2 million).

Mila Kunis came to Justin Timberlake‘s aid at a recent press junket in Moscow for their film, Friends with Benefits.

When Timberlake was asked by a reporter why he was concentrating more on his film career than music these days, before he could answer via a translator, the Ukrainian born Kunis jumped to her comrade’s defense.

In her native Russian, Kunis snapped, “Why movies? Why not?”

She added, “What kind of question is that? Why are you here?”

The crowd, which laughed and cheered, seemed to be on her side.

An appreciative Timberlake then joked that Kunis “is my bodyguard.”

The Smurfs has tied Cowboys & Aliens for first place in a weekend box office upset.

The official winner won’t be declared until tomorrow morning.

Those little blue animated buggers and the Daniel Craig-Harrison Ford sci-fi western both banked $36.2 million.

Coming in third was Captain America: The First Avenger with $24.9 million.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Crazy, Stupid, Love took fourth and fifth places with $21.9 million and $19.3 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Friends With Benefits ($9.3 million), Horrible Bosses ($7.1 million), Transformers 3 ($5.9 million), Zookeeper ($4.2 million), and Cars 2 ($2.3 million).

There’s a lot of green for the red, white and blue.

Captain America: The First Avenger took the number one spot at the box office this weekend, with a haul of $65.8 million.

That puts the Chris Evans vehicle on track to be the summer’s biggest superhero movie.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, meanwhile, fell to second after its record-setting debut last week.

As Gossip Cop reported, the boy wizard series became the highest-earning in film history, passing the Star Wars saga. This weekend, Potter added another $48 million to its total.

The Justin Timberlake-Mila Kunis comedy Friends With Benefits opened in a distant third place with $18.5 million in ticket sales.

Transformers 3 and Horrible Bosses came in fourth and fifth with $12 million and $11.5 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Zookeeper ($8.7 million), Cars 2 ($6.5 million), Winnie The Pooh ($5.5 million), Bad Teacher ($2.5 million), and Midnight In Paris ($2 million).

Jessica Biel has been “betrayed again” by Justin Timberlake, reports In Touch.

Although Biel and Timberlake reportedly got back together earlier this month after calling it quits in March, the mag says Timberlake “has also been romancing Olivia Wilde on the sly.”

According to a supposed “source” for the tabloid, “Justin and Olivia have been getting closer over the last three months,” and now he’s “torn” between the two ladies.

“He can’t seem to resist Olivia,” explains the so-called “friend,” but he “never stopped loving Jessica.”

So, is the Friends with Benefits star really hooking up with Wilde on the side?

Nope.

As Gossip Cop has told you time and time again, the singer and Wilde are not romantically involved.

A rep for Wilde reiterates that the “House” star and Timberlake are “just friends.”

They were just friends when this rumor began in April, and three months later, they remain just friends.

In Touch should seriously just let it go.

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis appeared on the “Today Show” this morning to promote their film, Friends with Benefits, but they got a bit raunchy when discussing the Marine Corps Balls that they were both invited to.

As you’ll recall, Kunis said she’d attend a Marine Ball with Sgt. Scott Moore, who asked her out via YouTube. Similarly, Timberlake agreed to be Marine Kelsey De Santis‘s date at her event in Washington, D.C.

On the “Today Show,” however, it all went to hell when Kunis explained that she and Timberlake would be attending different Marine galas.

She told NBC’s Lester Holt, “It’s two separate balls… There are multiple balls… Marines have a lot of balls.” Timberlake then chimed in, “We want to pay honor to our county and embrace their balls.”

Not leaving it alone, Kunis said, “We’re attending both balls,” before adding, “How many ball references can we make?”

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis are Friends With Benefits, and now they both have dates with marines.

Following his co-star’s lead, Timberlake has accepted an invitation to the Marine Corps Ball.

His comes from Kelsey De Santis, who made a YouTube video asking the actor-singer to accompany her to the Washington, D.C. event.

When asked at a press conference whether he’d see the invitation, Timberlake said he had, and made an announcement.

“I’ll tell you what: I accept,” he said.

“I don’t get asked out. Ever. So I was very flattered by that,” explained Timberlake.

“If my schedule works out to do it, I’d love to do it. It’s an honor.”

Mila Kunis has confirmed, once and for all, that she will be attending the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, North Carolina on November 18.

As you’ll recall, a marine in Afghanistan named Scott Moore made a YouTube video in which he asked the actress to go as his date to the event.

It was very sweet, and Kunis accepted.

Then Billy Bush said on “Access Hollywood” that Kunis would not be going due to other obligations, which sparked a round of will-she-or-won’t-she rumors.

Alongside Justin Timberlake at a press event for their movie Friends With Benefits, Kunis said she’d “happily” clear it up.

“Do not believe what Billy Bush says,” began Kunis. “Please, I beg of you.”

“Never did I say that I was not going; he made it up and people believed it, unfortunately.”

“I am attending,” confirmed Kunis. I’m going November 18. I will be there… I accepted an invitation, and I’m staying true to my word.”

Mila Kunis just got a big offer – but it’s not for a movie role.

Sgt. Scott Moore of the U.S. Marines in stationed in Afghanistan right now, but he’d like the “Friends with Benefits” actress to be his date for the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, North Carolina on November 18.

In a short video (below) posted to YouTube, Sgt. Moore (who tells Kunis she can call him “Scott”) asks her to think about it and then get back to him.

No word yet on whether Kunis plans to go.

“Justin & Mila: IT’S ON!” blares a headline from Life & Style, reviving the tired rumor that Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis are hooking up.

The mag says the Friends With Benefits co-stars’ attempt to laugh off romance rumors by groping each other onstage at the June 5 MTV Movie Awards fooled no one, and the move “only put Justin and Mila’s steamy chemistry front and center.”

According to a so-called tabloid “insider,” Timberlake began “pursuing” Kunis when they shot the rom-com last year, “but she was with Macaulay Culkin then.”

“Since then, they’ve hooked up,” says the source, “but Justin wants more.”

Kunis, however, supposedly doesn’t want to be “Mrs. Justin Timberlake,” explains the mag, “so they’re just keeping their relationship behind closed doors for now.”

Wow, Timberlake and Kunis must be masters of deception in order to successfully hide their romance for almost a whole year.

Or, they’re just simply NOT DATING.

A rep for Timberlake assures Gossip Cop, “Justin is not involved with anyone.”

“J.T. Is Moving On… With Mila Kunis!” exclaims Perez Hilton in a headline, linking Justin Timberlake to his Friends with Benefits costar.

“That didn’t take long now did it?! Good for him!” adds the blogger.

On the heels of Timberlake’s breakup with Jessica Biel, Perez writes, “Justin might be living up to the name of his new movie, Friends with Benefits, with his costar, Mila Kunis.” He further claims the two “have been very ‘flirty’ ever since they shot the movie together.”

Not that anyone asked Perez for his opinion, but the blogger offers, “We…approve! She’s a hot-ticket lady these days and J.T.’s made a nice name for himself as a movie man.”

Sources close to both stars assure Gossip Cop that Timberlake and Kunis are NOT romantically involved, and that they simply worked together.

Mila Kunis has recently been linked to a number of men since her split with Macaulay Culkin.

First, the Black Swan actress was rumored to have been dating “Glee” star Chord Overstreeet. As Gossip Cop reported, that was not true.

Next, Kunis was tied to her Friends With Benefits costar Justin Timberlake, and that too was wrong.

Now Star magazine asks, “What breakup?”

The tab reports Kunis and Culkin “looked oh-so-together at the Weinstein SAG Awards after party at the Sunset Tower Hotel’s Terrace.” According to Star, “The twosome kissed and cuddled the night away.”

Wow!

As in… Wow that is SO WRONG.

“Justin Timberlake doesn’t seem to be giving up on his quest to win over Mila Kunis,” reports Us Weekly.

The mag claims Timberlake was “aggressively pursuing” Kunis at the Weinstein Company SAG Awards after-party, where they were spotted “whispering closely.”

According to a so-called “insider,” Timberlake was “obsessed” with Kunis during filming of Friends With Benefits, and at one point during the SAG Awards after-party he “wedged himself between Kunis and “Glee” heartthrob Chord Overstreet while they spoke” because Timberlake “clearly didn’t like Kunis talking to other guys at the bash.”

Now for the real story…

A source close to Kunis assures Gossip Cop that the actress and Timberlake are “just friends – that’s it.” They talked for a bit because “They’re co-stars, friends.”

Sadly, Us Weekly, which wrongly reported 15 months ago that Timberlake and Jessica Biel broke up, is hellbent on splitting up the couple. In the past, the mag has tried to link him to Cameron Diaz (nope), Olivia Munn (wrong), and once before even to Kunis (no dice).

Timberlake and Biel remain perfectly happy together.

In the grand tradition of Armageddon vs. Deep Impact, Capote vs. Infamous, and other pairs of movies with nearly identical subject matter released at almost the same time, the Natalie Portman-Ashton Kutcher comedy No Strings Attached is set to do battle against Friends with Benefits, starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake.

(Don’t be further confused by Portman and Kunis starring together in the upcoming Black Swan… or by the fact that Timberlake released an album called “No Strings Attached” back in his ‘NSYNC days.)

According to the Hot Stuff section of Us Weekly, Justin Timberlake is “betraying” girlfriend Jessica Biel with Mila Kunis, who plays his love interest in the upcoming Friends With Benefits.

The magazine’s source claims Timberlake is “absolutely obsessed with Mila,” with another tipster describing him as “smitten.”

“Justin has strayed before and he’ll do it again,” says an Us source, with the weekly observing that his “well-known wandering eye” has landed on women including Rihanna (um, except it actually didn’t).

And even with a Kunis friend telling the magazine that she “would never go for a guy with a girlfriend,” let alone Timberlake, who’s “not her type,” Us Weekly still refers to “Justin’s New Betrayal” on its cover.

There was never anything to previous claims of a budding romance between Kunis and Timberlake — and there still isn’t.

A rep for Timberlake confirms to Gossip Cop, “There is absolutely no truth to it.”

HollywoodLife, where consistency and context go to die, shows again today just what a joke of a “news” site it is.

Last week, the outlet taunted Jessica Biel and Macaulay Culkin with speculative drivel about how their respective partners, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, were “getting close” on the set of their movie, Friends With Benefits.

It was, as a source close to Biel told Gossip Cop, “stupidity.”

Today the site takes the leap from stupidity to outright hypocrisy.

After CREATING concern that Biel “better keep a close eye on her boyfriend” because “it looks like he may be hitting it off” with Kunis, HollywoodLife delivers a stunning “EXCLUSIVE!” that announces the exact opposite.

“Relax, Jessica Biel! Your BF, Justin Timberlake is ‘Just Friends’ With Co-Star Mila Kunis!”

Oh? Do go on!

“There is NOTHING romantic going on between Justin and Mila,” one “source” tells the site “exclusively.”

Of course there’s nothing romantic between them.

But again: HollywoodLife just days ago implied that there was.

“Justin and Mila get along like brother and sister,” says another “insider,” adding that rumors they’re together “are laughable.”

Unbelievable.

HollywoodLife is responsible for creating the rumors it now “exclusively” claims to be “laughable.”

Hey, Gossip Cop has been laughing at HollywoodLife for months. We’re thrilled to see they finally agree.

HollywoodLife, which has a hard time admitting when its wrong, taunted Jessica Biel last March with a picture of boyfriend Justin Timberlake and his Bad Teacher co-star Cameron Diaz, and then asked, “Does this photo of Cam & JT grinning and giggling on the set concern you … even a little bit?”

The site’s speculation, of course, was pure nonsense.

All these months later, Biel and Timberlake remain in a committed relationship – and HollywoodLife remains committed to using Timberlake’s on-screen work to suggest there’s imminent drama in his off-screen life.

Today the site writes, “Watch Out Jessica Biel & Macaulay Culkin! Justin Timberlake & Mila Kunis Are Getting Close On The Set Of ‘Friends With Benefits!’”

As if Timberlake’s and Kunis’ acting poses legitimate threats to their real-life, long-term relationships, HollywoodLife now asks, “Is she worried that her man may be taking it to the next level with Mila?”

“If so,” adds the site, “Macaulay better be on guard too. He doesn’t want to lose the love of (sic) to JT!”

Apparently, HollywoodLife doesn’t care about losing the love of its readers, who can no doubt separate fact from fiction better than the amateurs running the site.

A Biel source brushed off the report as “more stupidity.”

For a publication that occasionally prints fiction, In Touch sure has trouble grasping the concept of “make believe.”

Every time two people share a movie screen, the tab mistakes it for actual romance — or at least assumes everyone else does.

In April, the magazine fretted that Renee Zellweger‘s “worst nightmare” had come true as boyfriend Bradley Cooper “developed a tight bond” with The Dark Fields co-star Abbie Cornish.

Of course, there was nothing to it. Cooper and Cornish worked together on the movie… and that’s it.

In May, the tabloid insisted Demi Moore “may be on to something” in being suspicious of husband Ashton Kutcher‘s Friends With Benefits love scenes with Natalie Portman.

Again, the supposed jealousy was complete nonsense.

Now, In Touch sets its uniquely untrained eye on Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Stewart, argues the tab, ”has reason to worry” about Pattinson since he’s allegedly shared “secret dinners” with their mutual Twilight Saga cast mate, Anna Kendrick. Meanwhile, “another threat” to their relationship supposedly comes from his Water for Elephants co-star Reese Witherspoon.

A “set insider” tells In Touch Pattinson and Witherspoon “laugh, flirt and hang out together,” making Stewart so nervous she avoids visiting him at work.

Excuse Gossip Cop while we pause to chuckle at the story’s desperation.

In the Moore and Zellweger versions of this story, In Touch claimed each star visited her partner’s set out of jealousy and insecurity. Now, with Stewart not visiting the Water For Elephants production, all of a sudden that’s the sign of jealousy and insecurity.

Talk about choosing whatever logic happens to be most convenient.

Here’s another gem: According to the same “source,” Stewart is always asking Pattinson what he thinks of Witherspoon, “And while he admits she’s a great person, he doesn’t mention how attractive and fun he finds her.”

Is this a joke? The fact that Pattinson doesn’t say he finds Witherspoon “attractive and fun” is evidence that Stewart has become increasingly paranoid about their relationship?

A source close to Stewart tells Gossip Cop the entire premise is beyond laughable.

It seems like In Touch is way more insecure than any of the people it covers. What else could explain the bizarre lengths it travels to prove a baseless claim?

In Touch might not be very good at reporting, but it’s unmatched as a “green” business.

No tabloid better recycles.

According to this week’s issue, Demi Moore is “worried” about husband Ashton Kutcher and his Friends With Benefits costar Natalie Portman.

“It’s driving Demi crazy,” claims an In Touch insider. “She knows how much Ashton loves her, but she’s concerned that he is working with Natalie, who’s almost 20 years younger than she is.”

And while Moore has never been jealous of Kutcher’s costars before now, the tab believes “she may be on to something this time.”

Why?

Because Kutcher jokingly called love scenes “free cheating” in a recent interview.

Jokingly.

Kutcher added that he kept Moore informed of everything because she’s his “best friend.”

But In Touch‘s insider is convinced Moore “isn’t as cool with it as she’s letting him think.” “Demi has told Ashton that she’s visiting him on the set to get to know Natalie,” explains the source. “But it seems like she’s actually going to check up on him.”

It’s a good thing Gossip Cop “checks up” on In Touch.

A month ago, the tab tried pulling the same trick, alleging that Renee Zellweger only visited boyfriend Bradley Cooper on the set of The Dark Fields because he and costar Abbie Cornish had “become very fond of each other,” which was Zellweger’s “worst nightmare.”

In Touch‘s “worst nightmare” seems to be having to brainstorm new bogus rumors.

The tab was wrong about Zellweger and Cornish, and it’s wrong about Moore and Portman.

A rep for Moore dismissed her supposed jealousy as “absolute rubbish.”

“Demi Moore just slapped a ban on hunky hubby Ashton Kutcher‘s hottie casting calls,” claims an item in the National Enquirer.

So why is the Mrs. allegedly miffed?

According to the Enquirer, Moore objects to Kutcher sitting in on auditions for “hot, sexy girls who’ll be used for ‘background only’” roles in his film, Friends With Benefits. (The flick’s leading lady, Natalie Portman, has already been cast.)

So-called “insiders” say Kutcher admitted to his wife “he likes gawking at girlies,” and further stepped in it when he supposedly explained to Moore: “It’s not like I’m touching! What’s the harm in looking?”

Actually, it’s the Enquirer doing the harm – with lousy reporting.

There is no ban on beauties.

A source close to the couple says the Enquirer piece is “ridiculous,” and adds, “none of it is true.”

Justin Timberlake is expected to make a deal to star in Friends With Benefits, a movie about how love can complicate no-strings-attached sex, according to a report.

The film should not be confused with another movie currently using the same title and starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.

Nor should it be confused with a TV series pilot about five friends who fool around with each other, recently green lit by NBC, and using… the same title.

Timberlake has previously appeared in films such as Southland Tales and The Love Guru.

Later this year he’ll star in The Social Network, a drama about the origins of Facebook.

Here we go again.

Despite “widespread reports of their split” (yes, Fox411 – YOUR widespread reports, which Gossip Cop debunked), Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel “continue to be photographed together,” according to the site.

Sigh.

Fox411 painted themselves into a corner by insisting that the two had broken up and now having to deal with Timberlake and Biel being photographed as a couple and seeming happy.

Well today the blog figured out how to reconcile their premise with reality. According to the site, Timberlake and Biel are now “friends with benefits.”

An “insider” tells Fox411 that Biel was upset when Timberlake supposedly dumped her, “But once she calmed down and they started talking again, he convinced her to stay friends who hook up, without all the pressure of a relationship.”

Really? That’s how it went down, “insider”?

The site’s so-called “source” explains, “At first [Biel] was very reluctant, but she missed him a lot and so she decided to give it a try even though it wasn’t exactly how she wanted things to be.”

Actually, Gossip Cop suspects the facts weren’t exactly how Fox411 “wanted things to be.” So instead of admitting Timberlake and Biel are still seen together because, well, they’re still dating, the blog decides they must be “friends with benefits.”

Because, really, why go with the simple, straightforward, accurate story when it’s so annoyingly out of sync with rumors?
