Theaters were packed with new movies this weekend – but not with audiences.

‘The Help’ and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ stayed on top of the heap, with a number of disappointing debuts filling out the rest of the chart.

‘The Help’ earned a $20.5 million victory, with James Franco’s ‘Apes’ hitting $16.3 million for a strong second place.

After that, things got kinda ugly.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ starring James Franco and other doomed humans, won the weekend’s box office again with $27 million in ticket sales.

Meanwhile, the Emma Stone-headlined film, ‘The Help’ took second place with $25.7 million, followed in third by ‘Final Destination 5′ with $18.4 million.
