Charlie Sheen presented the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, making a “surprise appearance,” as Gossip Cop reported yesterday.

Before he handed out the award, Sheen had a few words for his former family at “Two and a Half Men.”

The host sang and danced her with through interactions with the casts of “Entourage,” “Mad Men,” “Parks and Recreation,” “The Big Bang Theory” and more.

Charlie Sheen could reportedly make a “surprise appearance” at tomorrow night’s Emmy Awards – even though he’s not up for an award and was fired from “Two and a Half Men.”

The erstwhile sitcom star could possibly serve as an unannounced presenter, according to Deadline.

Gossip Cop is looking into the report.

Sheen has been everywhere this week, promoting his Comedy Central roast, which debuts on Monday.

His old “Two and a Half Men” colleague, Jon Cryer, is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards.

If a tree falls in the forest but no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

If Sofia Vergara runs naked down the street but no is there to witness it, does it count?

It’s one of the big questions after last night’s Emmy Awards.

Back in July, the team behind “Modern Family” placed an advertisement in trade papers announcing that cast member Vergara would streak on Sunset Boulevard if the first-year show won for most outstanding comedy series.

Then it actually did win.

So when Vergara was asked after the ceremony whether she planned to fulfill her end of the bargain… she jokingly claimed she already had.

“I did the run and I came back,” said the actress. “I mean, I’m fast. I run fast.”

Vergara explained that she just changed back into her awards show gown. “They zipped me and they sent me to do press.”

Obviously joking with her version of “events,” Vergara wouldn’t rule out a future streak.

“Listen, I’m not afraid of anything. I’m Colombian,” declared the beauty.

While Vergara may not be afraid, she also doesn’t seem primed to run through the streets naked anytime soon.

But a deal is a deal! “Modern Family” promised us a streaker, so we should get a streaker!

Here’s a funny one.

Deadline Hollywood, a site with a reputation for sometimes having sticky fingers when it comes to others’ exclusives, apparently cannot separate fact from fiction – or jokes from legitimate news.

In an interview with Emmys host Jimmy Fallon, the site asks, “Anything specific you can mention about the telecast?”

“Not really,” Fallon begins, “because surprise is the best thing. I don’t want to ruin anything. I can tell you that the opening’s going to be good. I think we’re going to do some musical stuff.”

Adds the comedian, “We booked J-Lo and Steven Tyler so far, so that’s pretty awesome.”

Really?

The same Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler who Gossip Cop was the first to exclusively report were offered spots as new “American Idol” judges?

Deadline’s Nikki Finke should remember that exclusive – she stole our story, and like a weasel tried to claim it was hers. (Oh, we kept the e-mails).

Anyway, Finke’s site straightforwardly reports Lopez and Tyler are set to be at the awards show, which honors TV’s best.

Slight problem…

Lopez and Tyler will NOT be attending, their reps tell Gossip Cop exclusively.

You see, Deadline doesn’t only steal others sites’ work without giving proper credit, but the blog sometimes also doesn’t fact-check.

Or understand comedy.

Fallon, a comedian, was joking.

But apparently, the joke’s on Deadline.

Toldja! it was funny.

Tonight the Creative Arts Emmys were handed out – eight days before the televised primetime show in Los Angeles – and we won’t bore you with a lot of the technical awards, but we wanted to point out a couple of winners.

Betty White walked away with an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her hosting of “Saturday Night Live,” and  Neil Patrick Harris won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on “Glee.” (Harris also won an Emmy for hosting last year’s Emmys.)

The first wave of presenters for the upcoming Emmy Awards was just announced and, as expected, there’s no shortage of star power.

Nominees Matthew Morrison (“Glee”), January Jones (“Mad Men”), Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”), and Julianna Margulies (“The Good Wife”), as well as Emmy winner Ricky Gervais and “The Office” star John Krasinski, are all slated to take the stage.

More names will be announced in advance of the live coast-to-coast broadcast on August 29.

As Gossip Cop previously reported, reality star Kate Gosselin is expected to join host Jimmy Fallon for the opening act.

Kate Gosselin is slated to open the Emmys later this month with host Jimmy Fallon, Gossip Cop can confirm.

The controversial reality star and mother of eight — who isn’t nominated for any of the prestigious awards — will partake in a humorous sketch where she interacts with some of TV’s biggest stars.

The telecast airs August 29 on NBC.

The Emmys are definitely Team CoCo.

Conan O’Brien‘s short tenure as the host of “The Tonight Show” was rewarded today with an Emmy nomination for best variety, music or comedy series, while rival Jay Leno was snubbed.

NBC submitted both incarnations of the show for Emmy consideration, but the TV academy was only interested in O’Brien.

Other nominees in the category include “Saturday Night Live,” Jon Stewart‘s “The Daily Show,” “The Colbert Report,” and “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

David Letterman‘s “The Late Show” was also excluded from that category for the first time in 17 years.

O’Brien, whose final “Tonight” show appearance also received a nod for best writing in a variety, music or comedy series, tweeted today, ”Congrats to my staff on 4 Emmy nominations. This bodes well for the future of the `Tonight’ show with Conan O’Brien.”

The funny man will resume his late-night duties on TBS this fall.

Already a Grammy and Emmy winner, Justin Timberlake can now add the title of “Man of the Year” from a Harvard institution.

Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals – the country’s oldest undergraduate drama group – has just chosen Timberlake to receive its “Man of the Year” trophy on February 5 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the group will roast him.

The Hasty Pudding said today they picked Timberlake for the award because he’s “one of pop culture’s most influential entertainers.”

And that’s true, but Gossip Cop can assure you that for every mention of his Grammy-winning hits, there will be almost as many acknowledgements for Emmy Award-winning work on “Dick in a Box.”

Earlier this month, Anne Hathaway was tapped as Hasty Pudding’s “Woman of the Year.”

The Star washed out with a story about “Dancing with the Stars” former lovers Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff.

According to the Star, at a Lipton Green Vitali Tea event in Los Angeles on September 20, “as soon as Karina’s back was turned and she put down her steaming cup, [Maksim] put liquid soap in it!”

What?!

The tab says tragedy was averted because her handler stopped Smirnoff from drinking the soap-spiked drink. Smirnoff then shot her ex-fiance “a dirty look,” claims the Star.

Relax, everyone. Chmerkovksiy didn’t try to harm her – and all the other details are basically wrong, too. For one, the Emmys were on September 20th – and Chmerkovksiy and Smirnoff were at the awards show performing, not at an event that day. They were, however, at the Lipton Green Vitali Tea gifting lounge the day before.

And Chmerkovksiy didn’t surreptitiously try to poison Smirnoff. They were doing a taste test. Chmerkovksiy correctly  guessed all four teas and, since he’s fiercely competitive, he told Gossip Cop, via his rep, “I wanted her to lose, so I put facial cream in her tea.” Yes, facial cream – not  soap – from the gifting suite. He maintains it was completely a joke. According to Chmerkovksiy, everyone (except the Star) knew it was just a gag. Admittedly, we’ve heard of better pranks.

Still, Gossip Cop knows for a fact that Chmerkovskiy would never have even dreamed of hurting Smirnoff, with whom he was on the verge of reconciling. Sadly,  however, these days the ex-lovers’ feelings are poisoned.

Just about four years ago – on September 18, 2005 – when Gossip Cop was a producer at Access Hollywood, I was stuck in legendary Los Angeles traffic en route to the 57^th Annual Emmy Awards. At a certain point, fearing that I would be late, I jumped out of the car and started hoofing it as fast as I could in my tuxedo to the Shrine Auditorium for the ceremony.

About three blocks away, I saw David Letterman, dressed in shorts and smoking a cigar, briskly walking away from the auditorium. With him was a woman dressed in black. That was Stephanie Birkitt, Letterman’s former assistant, with whom he had a sexual relationship, and who later took up with “48 Hours” producer Robert “Joe” Halderman, the alleged exortionist who reportedly used her diary and e-mails as proof of her relationship with Letterman in an effort to squeeze the talk-show host out of $2 million.

As I passed Letterman, who was to honor the late Johnny Carson that evening, I heard him mutter to Birkitt, “I’m not going in, I’m not going in” before plopping himself down on a nearby bus bench.

Surprised by what I had heard and seen, I had a cameraman from Access meet me at the bus stop, where I asked Letterman if I could ask him a few questions. He couldn’t have been more gracious.

First I asked Letterman what the heck he was doing on the bench with minutes to go before the Emmys. Letterman, seated next to Birkett, replied, “We’re just waiting on the bus.” Birkitt then added, “We’re actually about to go in.”

When I then asked Letterman why he wasn’t suited up in a tux, he joked that he was going to wear his shorts that evening: “This is it, this is… pretty expensive this is like an Armani,” before being cut off by Birkett, who said, “Are you ready?”

Birkett clearly enjoyed such a closeness with Letterman that she felt comfortable cutting him off while being interviewed on camera.

That was then. Now Gossip Cop hears that their sexual relationship ended before he married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March 2009.

Gossip Cop also hears that there have been no recorded issues of sexual harassment. Letterman owns the production company behind “Late Show,” Worldwide Pants, and an inside source tells us there have been ZERO complaints.

As for how the talk show host is doing amidst the controversy, the source told Gossip Cop, “Eh, not so well.”

The New York Daily News has tried to pit Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Denise Richards against his current wife Brooke Mueller. In an item today in the paper’s “Gatecrasher” column, it’s reported that Mueller “threw a fit” at an Emmy Awards gifting suite “when she was denied her request of a diamond-and-gold Hershey’s Kiss necklace – and offered silver instead.”

According to the paper, Mueller reportedly said, “I know Denise Richards was here earlier, and she has a diamond necklace.” After being told that it was true, says the paper, “Mueller sniped: ‘She’s going down!’”

How dramatic – and fictional.

Yes, it’s true that both women went to the same gifting suite. In fact, Mueller and Richards, who now have an amicable relationship, ran into each other and exchanged hugs and kisses. A woman who was there at the time told Gossip Cop that Mueller even complimented Richards: “I love your boots.”

That same onlooker says Mueller was told by the jewelry people that they didn’t have anymore diamond necklaces to give away then, but an employee offered, “We’d love to send you one.”

But what about Mueller “throwing “a fit?” The eyewitness tells Gossip Cop there was “no yelling” or any type of phrase uttered like “She’s going down!”
