“Lady Gaga in talks to become new singer of Queen,” reads the headline of a story on NME‘s website.

The music mag’s blog, picking up a story from the Daily Express, quotes Queen guitarist Brian May as saying the group is “in talks” with Lady Gaga in an effort to solve “the singer problem” the band has had since splitting with Paul Rodgers in 2009.

The band’s most famous frontman, of course, was Freddie Mercury, who died 20 years ago.

According to May, who played on Gaga’s song “You and I,” the band has talked about “going out on the road all the time but there’s a bit of a singer problem to put it mildly… I worked with Lady Gaga and she’s very creative and is someone we’ve talked about singing, fronting the band with. She’s not just a singer, she writes her own material.”

So, is Gaga going to lead the group in “We Are the Champions” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”?

NO.

A rep for Lady Gaga tells Gossip Cop exclusively that the reports are “not true.”

Another bad rumor bites the dust.

According to a number of reports, Naomi Campbell and her Russian billionaire beau Vladimir Doronin are engaged.

Rumors escalated after Doronin supposedly “confirmed” the news to an online outlet in Russia.

While he “refused to go into details about the big day,” claims Daily Express, the tycoon “spoke candidly” about the couple’s bridesmaid choice.

“I can’t say it took us long to decide who will be bridesmaid,” Doronin is quoted as saying. “We are good friends with Dasha Zhukova, she is a wonderful person and talented designer. So she will be next to Naomi at our wedding.”

The Express mentions that Doronin failed to say “when the wedding will take place.”

Gossip Cop knows why: There is no engagement.

A representative for Campbell tells Gossip Cop the rumor the couple plans to wed is “not true.”

Over the summer, Gossip Cop got a British paper to apologize to Russell Crowe for wrongly reporting that the Brickmakers pub in Windlesham (outside London) had tossed out the actor for causing a ruckus. In fact, Crowe had never even been to the bar.

At the time, Crowe was in the town filming Ridley Scott‘s “Robin Hood.”

The film’s trailer has just come online, and Gossip Cop thought we’d give you a peek. Take a look:

The Express reports that “the fake limp has caused Laurie some real problems – and he wouldn’t rule out leaving the show in a bid to regain full health.”

A slew of other outlets picked up on the story, and blogs burst with outrage that their favorite dour doctor is ready to hang up his stethoscope.

Relax. Take a deep breath. His rep, who was surprised by our questioning, told Gossip Cop it was “not true” and called stories about him now having hip problems – because of the show – “hysterical.”

A few weeks ago the British paper The Express reported that Russell Crowe had been tossed from a pub outside London called Brickmakers for causing a ruckus after being told he wouldn’t be served drinks after closing time. At the time the paper said, “Eventually he left . . . but not before smashing a plate.” The manager was quoted as adding that “He’s been asked not to return.”

As we pointed out then, and will repeat again now – Crowe was NEVER at that bar. Well, The Express was apprised of their mistake, which Gossip Cop corrected, and now the tab is eating Crowe. In an apology, the paper wrote, “We have been informed that Mr Crowe has never been to the Brickmakers pub and therefore the incident never took place.  We apologise to Mr Crowe for our error.”

Gossip Cop is already on to the next case.

According to reports in the British tabs, which have been picked up and repeated across the globe, Russell Crowe has been banned by a bar named The Brickmakers, located an hour outside of London in Windlesham, where he is filming “Robin Hood.”

So what reportedly happened? A local told The Daily Mail, “He offered money to be allowed to keep drinking after closing time.” But when the pub refused, according to the paper, the actor started an argument. “Eventually he left,” The Daily Express quoted a manager at The Brickmakers as saying, “but not before smashing a plate.”  The manager added, “He’s been asked not to return.”

There’s a very good chance Crowe will never be seen at that bar – because he’s never set foot in it before. Not only does his press agent swear the story is a “total fabrication,” but he also notes that Crowe “has never ever been to this place.”

Maybe some locals had too many when telling the story.

Yes, rumors from abroad—where they can’t even vote in our elections—have Jolie considering a bid for the presidency. The British tab Daily Express cites an unnamed source claiming Jolie has “said she’s now got her sights set on Washington.” The paper further quotes the supposed confidante of Jolie as saying, “She is passionate about people’s rights, war and justice and thinks she can get more hands-on and make even more of a difference by getting into politics.” The friend of Jolie and Brad Pitt adds, “I would place a huge wager on her becoming the first female president within the next 20 years. When Angelina sets her mind on something, she goes all out to do it.”

As much as GossipCop would find the U.N. Goodwill Ambassador an attractive candidate (actually, an attractive anything), don’t count on her following in the footsteps of actor-turned-president Ronald Reagan.

Still, the newspaper said of Mayer and the “Break-Up” star that “neither seems very good at letting go!” Actually, at this point it seems only the media hasn’t let go.
