Robert Pattinson jokingly urging his legion of fans on “The Daily Show” to go out and see Cosmopolis, in an effort to give it a bigger opening than The Dark Knight, seems to have worked — sort of.

Although the film only played in three theaters in New York and L.A., Cosmopolis had a gross of $72,300 ($24,100 per theater), helping it top the specialty box office, with the best average of the weekend.

“Robert Pattinson ‘Disses’ Twilight In New Interview,” claims HollywoodLife, perhaps the only site clueless and classless enough to print such outright b.s. about the actor it milks for most of its business.

The webloid, which has become a cesspool of sensationalism masquerading as a “news” outlet, is very big on the word “diss” these days, using it to inflame controversy its writers are eager to invent because they’d rather not dirty themselves with the work of actual reporting.

In any case, Pattinson is currently doing press rounds for Cosmopolis, meaning HollywoodLife has lots of new material to willfully misinterpret.

Robert Pattinson offered his views on the tabloid media during a press junket for Cosmopolis in New York.

The actor, who has recently endured even more rumors than the usual — since Kristen Stewart publicly admitted to straying with Rupert Sanders — opened up about the impossible struggle big stars face with the tabs.

Pattinson said, “Media culture is a monstrous thing,” explaining, “You can’t win.”

After weeks of tabloid chatter, Robert Pattinson surfaced in New York on Monday for the premiere of his new movie Cosmopolis.

The film debuted at the Museum of Modern Art immediately after Pattinson taped an appearance on “The Daily Show” (set to air Monday night).
