Conrad Murray is officially appealing his conviction for involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of Michael Jackson.

He’s taken the measure of filing the court document “pro per” – meaning he intends to represent himself instead of using a lawyer.

Murray was convicted by a California jury on November 7.

This week, he was sentenced to the maximum of four years in prison.

During his appeal, Murray will still be in communication with Nareg Gourjian, one of his trial attorneys, according to TMZ.

Conrad Murray was just sentenced to the maximum of four years of imprisonment.

Among those at the sentencing on Tuesday were Michael Jackson‘s mom Katherine, brothers Jermaine and Randy, and sisters Rebbie and La Toya, as well as family friend Kathy Hilton.

Before the sentencing, the Jackson family’s attorney, Brian Panis, read a heartfelt statement on behalf of the singer’s parents, siblings, and children.

The prosecution then argued strenuously against sentencing Murray to probation, which the defense had fought for.

“Prison is warranted,” said the prosecution, and asked for the maximum of four years.

The prosecution also asked restitution for Jackson’s lost wages and earnings, amounting to $100 million.

“We do not disagree with the prosecution that this is a tragedy,” said the defense, but he is “not a danger to the community.”

Prior to Jackson’s death, Murray “never committed a crime,” stressed the defense, which went on to say that whatever he does, for the rest of his life he’ll always be “known as the man who killed Michael Jackson.”

Still, the defense felt Murray should not serve time, and that he “can do things on probation… for the community.”

The judge began by saying it’s “difficult” to impose a sentence, especially when one has discretion.

That said, the judge felt Murray practiced a pattern of “deceit,” which including lying to law enforcement and medical personnel.

The judge went on to say he believed Murray taped Jackson’s slurred speech as an “insurance policy” to be used against the singer should the two ever part ways.

And he used Murray’s documentary to show there was no remorse either on the doctor’s part.

The judge continually slammed Murray, saying, ”He remains dangerous” and ”I think Dr. Murray is so reckless… that I believe he’s a danger to the community.”

“You can’t have probation when there isn’t an acknowledgement of rehabilitation,” said the judge who denied Murray probation, and sentenced the doctor to the maximum of four years behind bars at the L.A. County Jail.

The issue of restitution will be addressed at a later date.

On November 7, after a six weeks-long trial that included testimony from 49 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.

Prosecutors want Dr. Conrad Murray to pay Michael Jackson‘s children more than $100 million, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.

The late King of Pop’s three kids are “entitled to wages or profits lost due to injury incurred by the victim,” say the prosecutors, who are asking Judge Michael Pastor to order Murray to make proper restitution.

The sum is based on the Jackson estate’s estimate that the singer would have earned $100 million in revenue from the “This Is It” tour that never happened.

Documents also indicate that the District Attorney is seeking the maximum four years in prison for Murray, who was convicted of manslaughter in Jackson’s 2009 death.

The documentary, Michael Jackson and the Doctor: A Fatal Friendship, paints a bleak picture of Jackson during his final days, and features a number of people bashing the legendary singer.

In one conversation between Murray’s lawyers Ed Chernoff and Michael Flanagan and Flanagan’s wife, she says, ”Explain a 50-year-old man who sleeps with a baby doll and has pictures of basically infants to 2-year-old children looking at him every night.”

Chernoff responds, “I think the media made him appear weirder than he is,” to which Flanagan retorts, “You gotta be kidding me – he can’t be any weirder than he is.”

As for the state of Jackson’s finances near the end of his life, Murray claims AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips took him aside after a “This Is It” tour meeting and said Jackson “does not have a f*cking cent!”

The former doctor quotes Phillips as saying, ”What’s this bulls**t all about? Listen this guy is next to skid row. He’s going to be homeless.”

In court, Phillips denied this conversation ever took place.

Later in the documentary, Murray reveals Jackson regularly “peed the bed,” attributing the habit to a psychological condition.

Michael Jackson and the Doctor airs Friday at 10 p.m. on MSNBC.

While discussing the conviction of Dr. Conrad Murray on Tuesday, Kurt Loder called Michael Jackson a “child molester.”

The comments came during the music journalist and longtime “MTV News” anchor’s interview on KZOZ’s “Jeff and Jeremy in the Morning.”

A day after Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death, Loder said that while the late King of Pop’s troubled life was tragic, “I think he was a child molester, and that sort of tempers any feelings you might have about him… I just don’t think there’s any denying [that].”

He elaborated, “There were all kinds of children involved, there were payments made to their parents… having sleepovers with little boys, and you’re a 40-year-old man? Uh, no, you’re like a child molester!”

Loder isn’t the first to reference those infamous allegations against Jackson in recent months, but some are saying that the matter has nothing to do with Murray’s case and Jackson’s early death.

Four days after Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, MSNBC will air a documentary, starring the jailed doctor.

The film, titled Michael Jackson and the Doctor: A Fatal Friendship, has Murray breaking his silence about Jackson, as well as what happened the day the King of Pop died.

The documentary, which was shot over the past two years, will also offer a candid look at Murray’s defense team preparing for the trial.

On Monday, Murray was remanded into custody without bail immediately after his guilty verdict. He’s set to be sentenced on November 29.

Michael Jackson and the Doctor premieres on Friday, November 11 at 10 p.m.

“Dr. Conrad Murray has been placed on suicide watch,” reports RadarOnline, picking up on a story from the Los Angeles Times which says the former doctor is being closely monitored so that he doesn’t attempt to take his own life in jail.

The site says the staff at the L.A. County Men’s Jail “were told to ensure Murray does not try to take his own life” in the first few days of his incarceration.

Murray was remanded to jail on Monday after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.

However, Gossip Cop has learned that Murray is not on suicide watch, but is rather being placed under special protection at the prison, with an escort accompanying him wherever he goes.

And while it’s true he’s depressed, we’re told he’s still looking at the appeal as a saving grace.

Murray is scheduled for sentencing on November 29, and faces up to four years in jail.

It was the day Michael Jackson‘s family had been waiting for – Dr. Conrad Murray being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter of the King of Pop.

Shortly after the verdict was announced, La Toya Jackson tweeted, “VICTORY!!!!!!” She added, “Michael I love you and I will continue to fight until ALL are brought to justice!”

The singer’s sister further told the Associated Press, “Michael was looking over us… Absolutely justice was served.”

La Toya was far from the only relative pleased with the verdict.

A relieved Katherine Jackson admitted to the Associated Press, “I feel better now.”

Shortly after Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, the Los Angeles Police Department “applauded” the decision.

In a statement furnished to Gossip Cop, the LAPD said it was “pleased with today’s verdict of guilty in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray,” noting, “The investigators have worked diligently on this case and were confident throughout the process that the investigation supported the allegation of Involuntary Manslaughter. ”

The LAPD also praised “the combined efforts of our investigators, criminalists, Coroner investigators and the District Attorney’s Office.”

“While today’s verdict of guilty represents a victory in the eyes of law enforcement and the judicial system,” the LAPD acknowledged, “many lives have been affected by the death of Michael Jackson. The Los Angeles Police Department has never lost sight of the fact that Michael Jackson was a father, a brother and a son, and that his death will forever have an impact upon the Jackson family, friends and fans.”

Dr. Murray, who will be sentenced on November 29, faces up to four years in jail.

Not long after the verdict, Dr. Murray was handcuffed and taken to jail, where he remains without bail.

The seven-man, five-woman California jury announced its decision moments ago.

Dr. Murray sat stone-faced during the decision, which was greeted by a little cheering in the court and a loud celebration outside the courthouse.

Among those who let out a brief yell in court, much to the judge’s dismay, was La Toya Jackson. Family friend Kathy Hilton wept.

Michael Jackson’s parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson, and his brothers, Jermaine and Randy Jackson, remained silent.

Murray’s mother and daughter, on the other hand, cried when the decision was read.

The verdict comes after a six weeks-long trial that included testimony from 49 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence concerning Jackson’s June 2009 death, caused by a lethal dose of propofol.

Dr. Murray will be sentenced on November 29. He faces up to four years in jail.

The judge remanded Dr. Murray immediately into custody without the possibility of bail.

He was then handcuffed and led out of the court.

After 49 witnesses and hundreds of pieces of evidence, the seven-man, five-woman jury begins to deliberate today in the involuntary manslaughter case of Michael Jackson, and the role Dr. Conrad Murray played in the superstar’s death.

What’s agreed on is that Jackson died from a fatal dose of propofol.

What’s at issue is whether Murray, who admits he routinely gave Jackson the drug to sleep, administered the final, lethal injection and whether he was negligent in his care of the singer.

The defense has argued that Jackson craved the anesthetic so much, he actually injected himself with the final dose. “They want you to convict Dr. Murray for the actions of Michael Jackson,” Murray’s attorney Ed Chernoff told jurors.

But prosecutor David Walgren countered, “Poor Conrad Murray.. Michael Jackson is dead. And we have to hear about poor Conrad Murray and no doctor knows what it’s like to be in his shoes.”

The prosecution pointed out that several of the doctors who testified, including some of the defense’s, agree Murray should not have been giving Jackson the powerful propofol in a home setting.

Walgren blasted Murray for not telling medical personnel responding to Jackson that he had given him the sleeping drug, and that Murray, a cardiologist, was negligent for not having adequate monitoring and life-saving equipment.

“What is unusual and unpredictable is that Michael Jackson lived as long as he did under the care of Conrad Murray in this situation,” Walgren said.

If convicted, Murray faces up to four years in jail and could lose his medical license.

Dr. Paul White, an anesthesiologist brought to the stand to counter the prosecution’s primary medical witness, told jurors he believes the insomnia-addled King of Pop took lorezepam, a sedative, and then self-administered the propofol that killed him.

“You think it was a self-injection of propofol between 11:30 and 12?” asked Murray’s lawyer, J. Michael Flanagan.

White replied, “In my opinion, yes.”

Murray’s defense team is hoping to establish the case that Jackson – not the doctor – administered the drug that ended his life in June 2009.

Dr. Steven Shafer, an expert for the prosecution, has said that he believes it’s highly unlikely Jackson gave himself the propofol.

Jurors still have to make up their minds, but members of the Jackson family were not swayed by White’s testimony.

“MiCHAEL DID NOT KILL HIMSELF!!! HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT!!!!!!” tweeted the late icon’s sister, La Toya Jackson, after today’s claims.

Janet Jackson is cutting short her Australian tour so she can join her family at the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, who’s been charged with the involuntary manslaughter of her brother Michael.

The performer told the Associated Press, “When I planned these shows, the schedule in California was completely different,” adding, “After talking with my family last night, I decided we must be together right now… This saddens me in so many ways.”

Jackson’s “Number Ones” tour was slated to hit Melbourne on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

She’s rescheduled a one-night only show for November 3 at the city’s Rod Laver Arena.

The tour’s promoter, Paul Dainty, understood Jackson’s decision.

He said, “It is important that Janet is with her family at this critical point in the hearing. While Janet and our company apologize for any inconvenience for the reschedule of the Melbourne shows, we thank Janet for the great and successful concerts in Perth and Adelaide and eagerly await her return. … Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet and the entire Jackson family.”

The prosecution in the Dr. Murray trial is scheduled to wrap its case as early as Monday, and then the defense will present its side.

A 2003 photo showing Michael Jackson‘s intense reaction to multiple needle punctures lends credence to the idea that it would have been nearly impossible for the King of Pop to self-administer the dose of propofol that killed him six years later.

ABC News obtained a shot of the late singer, taken by business associates, that shows Jackson’s right leg badly bruised and discolored by injections.

The startling image backs up claims made by anesthesiology expert Dr. Steven Shafer, a witness in the manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, who argues that it is unlikely Jackson’s condition would have allowed him to drug himself.

“Michael Jackson did not have good veins. In fact, they were so poor, he had to start this IV in a vein below the left knee,” testified Shafer. “So the possibility of direct self injection seems extremely unlikely… You would not want to inject into a vein and miss because that would be extremely painful.”

Rather, Dr. Rogers believes the defendant gave Jackson too much of the anesthetic, which resulted in the King of Pop’s death.

“I think it would be easy under the circumstances for the doctor to estimate wrong and give too much propofol,” Rogers said in court.

Interestingly, Dr. Rogers testified that Jackson seemed to be in better shape than most men his age.
