Anne Hathaway will play Catwoman in ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

She’s been cast as Selina Kyle in the Batman film franchise’s highly anticipated next installment, which is due in theaters on July 20, 2012.

Tom Hardy is set for the role of the villain Bane.

Tom Hardy is close to joining the next ‘Batman’ movie.

A source close to the star tells Gossip Cop that he’s slated for an undetermined lead role.

Negotiations began quickly after Hardy’s ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was delayed. We’re told the rising British actor was soon flooded with offers, but that he jumped at ‘Batman 3.’

New estimates after Saturday still have ‘Inception’ as the top movie in America for a second straight weekend, with Angelina Jolie’s ‘Salt’ expected to finish a very strong #2.

Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi mind-bender, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, continues to earn big bucks at the box office, taking in an estimated $13.2 million on Friday and $17 million on Saturday en route to a weekend of about $40 million.

Spy thriller ‘Salt,’ meanwhile, was just behind with a $12.7 million Friday and a $14 million Saturday (estimated), tracking toward a $37 million weekend.

The Joker will not be back to battle Batman.

Christopher Nolan has confirmed that he will not use a new actor to play the villain Heath Ledger dazzlingly redefined in “The Dark Knight.”

“For me, Heath was the definitive Joker,” says Nolan. “It wouldn’t feel appropriate to readdress that character.”
