Christie Brinkley will be playing Roxie Hart in “Chicago” on Broadway soon, and the National Enquirer alleges that her new gig has led Brinkley to do a “complete about-face” on her ex-husband Peter Cook.

Brinkley and Cook divorced in 2006 after his affair with a teenage girl was discovered.

During the ensuing custody battle over their children Jack and Sailor, the supermodel mom argued that Cook was an “unfit father,” and she was awarded sole custody.

Now the Enquirer claims Brinkley has “change[d] her tune” and is “beseeching” Cook to “take the kids off her hands” while she’s in the musical.

According to a so-called “source” for the tabloid, Brinkley “is scrambling to make nice with Peter so he’d agree to keep the kids for four months.”

But Gossip Cop looked into the matter, and the notion that Brinkley “has done a complete turnaround” on Cook just isn’t true.

In preparation for her time in New York, “Christie has been looking at apartments large enough for her kids,” a rep tells us, and the new “Chicago” star plans to continue being an active parent throughout her Broadway stint.

It sounds to Gossip Cop like Brinkley is doing what any working mom does.

And, as usual, the Enquirer just Cook-ed another wrong story.

As you probably know, the charges against 22-year-old Samanth Tumpach have been dropped for illegally videotaping “New Moon” at the Muvico Theater in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont.

She was charged with a felony, and could have faced up to three years behind bars.

Tumpach admitted that two snippets of film were caught on her camera, but said she wasn’t intentionally recording “New Moon.” Instead, she was filming her sister’s birthday.

Even director Chris Weitz was in her corner. He told the Chicago Sun-Times, “There is, needless to say, a difference between trying to protect copyright of a film and making an unfair example of someone who clearly seems not to have any intentions towards video piracy.”

Well now Summit has weighed in, too, and released the following statement:

“In regards to the situation with Samantha Tumpach, we applaud Muvico for upholding the zero tolerance policy on piracy when the incident occurred at their theater in Rosemont, IL. The pirating of films is a very serious issue and we all need to remain vigilant to protect the art of film and the myriad of businesses that the film industry supports. We believe that the attention that this incident has drawn, has served as a reminder to us all that any form of film piracy, or perceived piracy, will be treated with the utmost seriousness. Summit is pleased that all charges against Ms. Tumpach have been dropped and appreciate the efforts of the police and the prosecutors in this outcome.”

Gossip Cop can confirm that Ashlee Simpson will be reprising the role of Roxie Hart in the Broadway production of “Chicago.”

Simpson, whose character recently wrapped on the TV show “Melrose Place,” starred in “Chicago” in 2006 in London’s West End, where she received good notices.

According to an inside source, Simpson will begin her Broadway run in December and perform for six weeks.

That same insider tells Gossip Cop that Fran and Barry Weissler, the show’s producers, were really pleased with Simpson’s performance in London, and had wanted her for some time to reprise the role.

This will mark Simpson’s Broadway debut.
