Charlie Sheen pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault on Monday.

The plea stems from a Christmas Day incident with his wife, Brooke Mueller, which allegedly involved a knife.

“I’m very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County. I look forward to complying with the court’s decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me,” said Sheen in a just-released statement.

In exchange for Sheen pleading guilty, prosecutors in Aspen dropped the more serious charges.

Charlie Sheen is close to reaching a plea deal in his domestic violence case, according to a report.

The actor and the District Attorney’s office in Aspen have been in talks to resolve legal drama that began with Sheen’s alleged attack on wife Brooke Mueller over Christmas. Now the two sides might reach an agreement before their scheduled court appearance on August 2.

Charlie Sheen will serve 30 days in jail after he pleads no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge.

The actor is expected to enter his plea next Monday and begin his sentence immediately. Although the deal sets Sheen’s jail time at a month, it could be reduced to 17 days for good behavior.

Law enforcement sources say Brooke Mueller told police husband Charlie Sheen threatened her with a knife.

The charge of felony menacing with which Sheen was charged after a Christmas Day 911 call involves a deadly weapon. Sources say Mueller told police at the time that Sheen possessed a knife and had threatened her with it.

EOnline.com is reporting that “a weapon of some sort” was involved in the felony menacing charge against Charlie Sheen.

Aspen police spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro would not go into further detail.

UPDATE 2:58AM – “Two and a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen was jailed in Aspen, Colorado today on charges of felony domestic violence following an alleged fight with his wife, Brooke Mueller.

Sheen was arrested on charges of felony second-degree assault, felony menacing, and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief, the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department says.
