It marks the first time in 40 years that a film headlined by a woman finished the year in the top spot.

The franchise blockbuster earned $110.2 million for the Wednesday-through-Sunday period, enough to stay atop the chart for a second consecutive week.

That amount also breaks previous 3-day and 5-day records for Thanksgiving weekends.

Catching Fire set the box office ablaze in its debut weekend, and broke a November record in the process.

The highly-anticipated sequel to The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, took in $161.1 million at the box office.

That topped Twilight Saga: New Moon’s $142.9 million from 2009 as the highest November opening ever.

Coming in a distant second was Thor: The Dark World with $14.1 million.

And The Best Man Holiday nabbed third with $12.5 million.
