The latest film in the franchise had the biggest Fourth of July opening ever, raking in $116.4 million for the four-day weekend, and easily secured the #1 spot at the box office.

Shia LaBeouf’s and his robot car buddies smashed the animated ‘Cars 2,’ which fell to #2 with a four-day weekend total of $33 million.

The Cameron Diaz-Justin Timberlake comedy ‘Bad Teacher’ came in third with $17.5 million, followed by ‘Larry Crowne,’ starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, which earned just $16 million.

There’s a new all-time box office queen.

‘Bridesmaids’ has passed ‘Sex and the City’ to become the highest-grossing R-rated female comedy in movie history.

The hit, starring Kristen Wiig and now in its eighth week on the Top Ten chart, has now earned $152.9 million at the domestic box office. ‘Sex and the City’ finished at $152.6 million.

Pixar wins again.

The hit factory’s ‘Cars 2′ crossed the weekend’s finish line with $68 million, despite mediocre reviews.

Cameron Diaz’s potty mouth scored well with audiences, too. Her raunchy comedy ‘Bad Teacher,’ also starring Justin Timberlake, earned $31 million to come in second.

Last week’s champ, ‘Green Lantern,’ lit up the box office for another $18.4 million to snag third place.
