Bono, who just finished performing his “360 Degree Tour” show in Johannesburg, has caused controversy after telling South Africa’s Sunday Times that songs like “Shoot the Boer,” have their place. The word “Boer” translates to “farmer” and originally referred to the Dutch settlers who came to South Africa in the 18th Century, but is now considered a derogatory term for white people.

Oprah Winfrey is now relaxing in picturesque Fiji, following a frenzied week with fans in Australia.

After she and her audience visited some of Australia’s major attractions, including the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef – and taped shows at Sydney’s famed Opera House, Winfrey is spending this week (and Christmas) on the South Pacific island nation with longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham.

U2 resumed what’s expected to be the highest-earning concert tour ever on Friday as frontman Bono returned from a long absence for a concert in Turin, Italy.

He’d undergone emergency back surgery in May.

“This band is like a family. It’s a family business, U2. I am the prodigal son,” Bono told the Olympic stadium crowd. “I would like to thank my brothers for their patience.”

He also thanked fans for an outpouring of well wishes via letters and e-mail.

After having emergency back surgery in May, Bono’s condition forced the band to postpone its “360 Degree” North American tour.

But today brings good news for fans on this side of the Atlantic.

The band’s manager, Paul McGuinness, says “The band wants to get back to where they belong, surrounded by their audience,” and has officially planned the rescheduled dates.
