Amy Winehouse was almost five times over what the legal drunk-driving limit is when she died, a pathologist revealed on Wednesday.

During an inquest into the singer’s’ death, it emerged Winehouse consumed a large amount of liquor after having been sober for three weeks, which caused her breathing to stop and landed her in a coma.

Coroner Suzanne Greenaway ruled that it was “death by misadventure,” saying the singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning.

Amy Winehouse’s family says the singer had alcohol in her system – but not illegal drugs – when she died last month.

“Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy’s system at the time of her death,” says a rep for the family in a statement.

It continues, “Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death.”
