After 17 years, The Lion King still rules.

The animated classic, back in theaters for a limited two-week 3D run, has surprised Hollywood by placing first at the weekend box office.

The re-released film earned $29.3 million.

Coming in second was the feel-bad epidemic drama Contagion, with $14.5 million in ticket sales.

And the new Ryan Gosling release, Drive, secured third place with $11 million.

The Help and the Kate Bosworth-Alexander Skarsgard remake of Straw Dogs took fourth and fifth places with $6.4 million and $5 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Sarah Jessica Parker‘s I Don’t Know How She Does It ($4.5 million), The Debt ($2.9 million), Warrior ($2.7 million), Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($2.6 million), and Colombiana ($2.3 million).

Kate Bosworth “won’t let go” of ex-boyfriend Alexander Skarsgard, reports Star magazine, which says the actress is taking their early summer split “particularly hard.”

A supposed “source” for the mag reveals, “She feels she messed up with the man she was meant to marry.”

That same alleged “source” claims, “After a few drinks, she’ll text and call Alex like crazy,” noting, “It just pushes him further away.”

Uhh… hasn’t Bosworth already moved on with her Big Sur director, Michael Polish?

In any case, a rep for the actress tells Gossip Cop, “There is absolutely no truth to this.”

Unfortunately, Star “won’t let go“ of its lazy fact-checking.

Kate Bosworth is reportedly dating Michael Polish, her director on Big Sur.

The two were spotted kissing and photographed together at last night’s Coldplay concert in Los Angeles.

The actress recently split with “True Blood” star Alexander Skarsgard.

A rep for Bosworth declined comment.

The blockbuster is based (um, loosely) on the game of the same name, but appears to involve giant mechanical aliens, a la Transformers.

Kate Bosworth and Alexander Skarsgard are “on the rocks,” according to Us Weekly, which cites a source who says they’ve “hit a rough patch.”

The actress and her “True Blood” star beau split last September before quickly reuniting.

“They’ve been fighting a lot about stupid stuff,” explains the Us Weekly “source,” adding, “They are still together, but I don’t think for much longer.”

To support its theory that the couple is about to break up again, the magazine claims the pair “hardly looked harmonious” while attending a Nylon dinner with Bosworth’s mom and dad on March 10.

“You could feel the tension,” a “witness” relates to Us Weekly, observing that Skarsgard and Bosworth “barely spoke the entire night – he just kept talking to her parents and other people.”

Since when does speaking with your girlfriend’s parents mean you’re about to end the relationship?

In any case, rumblings of trouble for Bosworth and Skarsgard are simply inaccurate.

A source close to the couple tells Gossip Cop there is “absolutely no truth to this.”

Brooklyn Decker is joining the cast of Battleship, which also stars Rihanna in her film debut.

The film’s director, Peter Berg, has added the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover model to the nautical blockbuster, her rep confirms to Gossip Cop.

Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard are also onboard for the board game adaptation, set for a May 2012 release.

Coincidentally, Decker was said to be in the running for the lead in Transformers 3, another toy-based franchise. The role went to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Rihanna is set to star in her first movie, according to a report.

Battleship will also star TV hunks Taylor Kitsch (“Friday Night Lights”) and Alexander Skarsgard (“True Blood”), claims Variety.com, and “takes place across the seas, the skies and over land in a battle for planet survival against a superior force.”

The director is Peter Berg, with a tentative launch on May 25, 2012.

Alexander Skarsgard had to be restrained by police after becoming angry with paparazzi while with rumored girlfriend Kate Bosworth at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival on Saturday, according to a report.

The “True Blood” star was furious with photographers snapping shots of him and Bosworth as they strolled the Indio, CA festival grounds, Pacific Coast News reports.

Multiple people, including a police officer, allegedly held back Skarsgard before the confrontation escalated.

No one was injured or arested.

You’d think a sexy and wildly popular vampire series wouldn’t need much artificial drama. Well, at least one gossip site disagrees.

BettyConfidential sets the stage for what it calls a “True Blood Showdown” based on “insiders” who claim Alexander Skarsgard is “looking for more airtime” than Stephen Moyer. According to the story’s so-called “sources,” Skarsgard “thought his growing popularity” would lead producers to give him greater exposure, but “felt his character got a bit sidelined” in recent storylines.

Gossip Cop was skeptical of these on-set unrest rumors, especially when the same article acknowledges how Skarsgard “gets along well with Stephen,” and “was thrilled” when his character’s relationship with Anna Paquin‘s Sookie Stackhouse received more attention in recent episodes.

Our doubts were well founded. “This is a complete fabrication and couldn’t be farther from the truth,” a representative for Skarsgard told Gossip Cop. “Alexander is totally pleased with the direction of True Blood, the writing, and especially his friendship with Stephen Moyer and the whole cast.”

So fans of the show needn’t worry – sounds like Skarsgard isn’t baring his fangs.
