Two months after Gossip Cop first reported that Madonna was going to be the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVI, it’s official!

On Sunday night, during the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints game, NBC and the NFL announced that Madonna would the Super Bowl’s headlining act at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on February 5, 2012.

It’s official! The Black Eyed Peas will perform the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

The announcement was made during Thurday’s Dallas Cowboys/New Orleans Saints game.

The Super Bowl will be played on February 6 at Cowboys Stadium.

UPDATE 5:10PM 11/17/2009:

Gossip Cop can confirm: The Who are officially set to play Super Bowl XLIV in Miami on February 7, 2010. Until now the band had called rumors that they’d perform “pure speculation,” but now a source close to the performance confirms the booking.
