Pretty Little Liars

“Pretty Little Liars” is an ABC Family drama based on the book series of the same name by Sara Shepard. It debuted in 2011 to strong ratings and has remained the network’s most-watched show.

The series stars Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellisario as a group of teens who struggle with the disappearance and presumed death of their friend Alison (played by Sasha Pieterse). Following Ali’s funeral, the girls, known as the “Liars,” become tormented by a series of messages from “A,” a mysterious figure who exposes their secrets and continually messes with the lives of their families, friends, and significant others.

The identity of A has been one of the show’s enduring questions, though there have been a number of twists and turns seemingly revealing the person in the hooded outfit. The show’s jolts and thrills, combined with the characters’ romances, have sustained the show for five seasons and counting. “Pretty Little Liars” is frequently the most talked-about show on social media, and fans routinely tweet about the main couples, nicknamed Ezria (Ezra + Aria), Haleb (Hanna + Caleb), Paily (Paige + Emily) and Spoby (Spencer + Toby).

Other stars include Janel Parrish, Keegan Allen, Ian Harding, and Tyler Blackburn, who temporarily left the series to star on the short-lived spinoff “Ravenswood” as his character Caleb. “Pretty Little Liars” has won a number of honors over the years, including from the Teen Choice Awards and the People’s Choice Awards.

Seasons are generally divided into two parts, A and B, with a hiatus between them. “Pretty Little Liars” has already been renewed for seasons 6 and 7, making it ABC Family’s longest-running original series. The show is expected to be on the air through 2016.
